WOW. These drums are phenominal. I added the 8' and 16'toms and man do they rock. I was a little skeptical, thinking these were more of a jazz set but I can rock out the funk and anything else. I traded up from Premiere and couldnt be happier. I would reccomend thes drums to any one. Oh yea, These drums sound great right out of the box, the snare is kinda weak ( I'm currently playing Pork Pies "Little Squealer") But Like I said this is a great set and the price is more than right.
A friend of mine owns this kit and its absolutely amazing! It has a great tone and resonance. I'm pretty sure he uses clear Evans G2s on the batter of his toms and clear G1s on the resonant sides. The bass drum has a great punch, I'm not sure what heads he has on that. I don't know anything about the snare because he doesn't use the stock one. The price is great on this kit and it's really worth it. Make sure you check this kit out.
This is the perfect kit for the semi-professional player. Mine has a lot of miles on it and still sounds great! My favorite part of the kit is the toms. They have a pretty wide tuning range and sound great with or without mics. The snare has been the toughest part on this kit. I am currently playing an Evans Supertough over a 300 Hazy and have finally found the ?crack? sound I have been looking for. My kit is Cherry Red, and I get tons of compliments on the finish. The hardware on the kit is probably the only downfall. The hoops are far from the best. The tom mounts are very solid though. Overall, I really like this kit and have found it to be the best kit it its price range by far.
What can I say, Gretsch is the best. I've had a few major brand kits over the last 10 years but this one is above and beyond everything. They look great, they feel great and best of all they soung UNBELIEVABLE!! I recommend adding the 16" floor to complete the set. I put Remo Pinstripes on all the drums except the Kick. Nothing in them, nothing on them. These drums sing. I had to tweak the 16" just a bit, but these drums pretty tuned themselves. I got the Caribian Blue finish and the compliments never stop. Three words, "GET THIS SET"!! Its the smartest thing I ever did.
About 6 months ago the prices for the Walnut kit dropped like 200 buck, and it included an extra rack tom. For the price I figured what the heck! I was not disappointed. This set looks and sounds gorgeous! Every thing about was nice. The birch has a brightness too it I love. I ended up getting the 16" floor tom to match. But as it turns out, Gretsch is dropping the line in favor of the Catalina Maple. I've seen and heard both kits side by side at GC, and the Birch set is clearly the winner. Get this baby while you can, and you will not regret it. Especially since they are practicly giving them away to clear the dirtribution channel.
I played these twice on the floor on two different dates, both times they were the best sounding drums in the showroom. Picked them up, and stashed my DW in the corner. These really blew me away, even with stock heads! I thought they were super easy to tune. I recommend these drums to anybody! Literally.
I bought this set to replace my old Ludwigs. I got the dark walnut color and they sound wonderful! Nice rich tones, easy to tune, and they look mahvelous dahling. That big 22 inch bass flat pounds out a nice fat beat. The snare can be "squirrely" sometimes, but replacing the head with an Evans EC2 cleared it right up.
Way past my expectations. Sound is deep, the way I like it. It,s so pretty I'm afraid to play it. What a huge difference from my old set I just upgraded from. Hardware is heavy duty for lots of set ups and take downs. Very Happy!!
I bought this set a little less than a year ago and ive loved it since the moment i saw it in the store. The stock hardware is vary versatille. Ive gone between 2 and 4 toms. Ive mounted toms on an off my bass and on and off my cymbal stands. Like a lot of people have said, this set is very easy to tune and the tones are very nice "fat" tones. The bass drum produces the best sound that i know of - especially when its fitted with an aquarian superkick II. The set is good for almost all types of music. jazz, funk, rock, rap, gogo, whatever. all i have to say is that if youre in the market for a set. seriously consider this baby.
