When i first got this kit i was very excited to get it. Its a really great awesoem sounding kit. My favorite thing about it, was the bass. DUDE! that thing is so powerfull. But, when you get it, change the heads cause they suck really badly (not on the bass drum though, those are fine). And i play metal so i recomend that you put a, either a dampening ring or some tape, on the floor tom head because it rings for SUCH a long time (very powerful though). THIS KIT IS AWESOME!
so i had a little SP kit and felt like upgrading just the bass at first, then my eye caught this lil beauty of a kit. for only 599, got 4 toms, big, low, beautiful bass and snare. what a deal. i cant say enough good things about this kit. just of course you'll need new head eventually, but the ones that come on here are pretty sweet too. the bass head has a self muffling ring, along with the bass resonant head, no muffling pillows or blankets necessary for a fantastic low end, chest kicking thump. my friends are jealous of my kit, and believe me, the chrome against the cobalt blue, just sexy. trust me...buy this kit

I've been waiting 36 years to start drumming again since stopping once I started college. I did a lot of research on price, value, quality, features, hardware and this set totally fits the bill. It's been a long time since I played but this kit makes it easy to get it all back, no matter the music style. Although it's more of a rock set with big, booming sound, it can work for every music style I'm trying to relearn. I added Zildjian cymbals, and higher grade cymbal stands and pedals, and found a 16x16 matching floor tom on eBay. Gretsch has great, sturdy hardware, and the set has a beautiful deep red finish that looks more expensive than it is. I spent a couple of hours tuning the drums to my liking and they sound great, but I'll probably change out all the Grestch heads for Evans over the next few months. The final bonus, I found a few other "older guys" who play other instruments through work and we're hitting the garage in spring. Man, it's good to play again!
This little piece caught my eye immediately. I was short on funds but looking for a descent set, and BAM! I stroll on across this bad boy. It sounds amazing once you replace the heads,(although the stock heads are pretty good as well) but put some coated batter heads on it and it will shine. Also i added some DrumGum to it,1 piece per tom,2 on the floor tom, and one on the snare. These little strips make a large difference. And they sound amazing,NO OVERTONES!! Any way,if your looking for a good set,for a great price, look no further then this Gretsch.
i bought this set a year ago. it has more than held it's ground from show to show. quality is exactly what u expect from gretsch...top of the line. tuning is quick & crisp w/a wide range. exterior finish is beautiful, but scratches easily. a set of nice gig bags is recommended. i play Paiste Alfa series cymbals to finish off the complete sound. nothing better for the price!
The Gretsh Catalina ash fusion is amazing. I have never heard a set that sounds like this one. its got all the small sizes on the drums giving it a amazing sound. it can be played in any type of music. the heads it come with arent bad. but after a while you will want to change them. i have GC2 Evans on both sides of each drum. i have Sabian, Pastie, Zildijan, and Wohan cymbals for it, it matches with each one. the sound value is amazing. i DEFINITLY recomend this drumset toy any one. its very easy to set up for shows. Also the only problem i had with it, was having to wait to pick it up. lol other than that no problems with it at all.
At first, I bought this set as a practice set because of the low price and size, but it quickly turned into my main show set. I play shows all over the Kansas City area and the midwest and I've gotten numerous compliments like "That's a killer sounding gretsch" from soundguys.. who obviously hear a lot of sets. With the right heads, this cheap "beginner" set sounds incredible. I'm in a rock band, but I've also played with numerous jazz bands, which is what the catalina was intended for. It sounds amazing for both. The only downside to the set is the 14" floor tom. It's a tough drum to get tuned. I'm currently playing evans coated g2s on top with clear g1s as resos and I've never played a better sound set in all of my years of playing. I'd suggest this set to any beginner OR serious gigging drummer.
The first time i heard about gretsch from my music teather i was pretty imperssed. The sweet and pro looking finish looks awsome. It is the top drum kit for over beginners.I seriosly love the looks but it is noting without a twinpedal.(my opinion)The price is very good for a gretsch.I recomend paiste pst 5 cymbls beacause they sound very good and heavy. If you whant a good kit a good pro sounding kit with a sweet finnish "GET GRETSCH"
Been playing the drums for a couple of months now, and these set of drums are great. It was easy to setup, and comfortable to use. Looking at various drum sets, I found this set to be the best value and still be a quality drum set.
