All I have to say that for the first time ever I took a drum out of the box and, with the exception of a little "tweaking," it was ready to play. It has a crisp yet full sound. The Evans G1 coated batter and Hazy 300 are a perfect match for this drum. Even the "stock" snares are terrific. This is one of two primary snare drums I use. The Gretsch is "softer" playing (Pop, Country, Jazz) and I have a modified Ludwig LM400 "Supraphonic" that I use for heavier playing (Rock, Classic Rock).
well what can i say about the snare its a beast...it has everything you want from jazz to funk snare sound....and its Gretsch you cant go wrong with Gretsch.....buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have 3 snare drums and this is the one I use the most. This truly is a "full range" drum. I play a lot of small bars and clubs in NYC and usually don't play very loud. This drum comes though crisp and clear with a light stroke. Also, I have had the opportunity to really lay into the drum and it doesn't choke if you hit hard. Compared to more expensive drums this is a bargain and of considerably higher quality than other snare drums that are similarly priced. This is worth adding to you arsenal of snare drums.
