I bought this snare not meaning to, but the sales guy showed it to me. I played it for a while in the store with him. It just sounded great, I took it home played it with my band, the snap is great and very sensitive for ghost notes. It is full bodied, warm and has a bit of edge to it. I was looking for a all maple snare but this one just cracked out to me. A Very good compulsive buy. I highly recommend it, can't beat the price. It feels and sounds much more expensive.
Ever since my purchase of this drum, I have recieved nothing but compliments about the sound, tone, and beautiful apperance of this snare drum. It is very versitile and sounds great at high and low tunings. For a great all around snare drum, this one can't be beat!
I've been playing drums for 39 years and this is without a doubt the best snare drum I've ever owned or had the opportunity to play. It has all the sound qualities I was looking for. I bought the 6.5X14 and it's crisp and super sensitive when tuned up high and fat and warm when tuned down low. The quality, workmanship and finish are all superb! Just what you would expect from Gretsch. Job well done! Also I must say that Guitar Center Customer Service is outstanding. I had ordered a new one of these but it was backordered until April. A couple of days after I ordered the new one a Used one in mint condition became available on GC's website so I called Customer Service to inquire about it. As it turns out it was returned from one of there stores and was in fact in stock in their warehouse in Kansas. They let me cancel the new one and placed an order for this right then and there. I was of course a little skeptical about what mint condition meant but after receiving this snare drum I was pleasentanly suprised. It arrived in 2 days with brand new heads installed and perfectly in tune! Thanks GC!
