Experience the explosive attack of maple with this powerful Catalina Maple kit.

The Catalina Maple series starts with the Gretsch maple formula shell. Gretsch carefully developed the maple shell specification to produce tones that explode with attack and volume, and project a balanced amount of warm, low-end frequencies. All Catalina Maple shells are 7-ply, 7.2mm. Gretsch cuts the drums with 30-degree bearing edges for that "great Gretsch sound."

Gretsch hardware includes fully-adjustable Gretsch ball-and-socket tom holder with 12.7mm tom arms, 9020-style mounting brackets and their famous 5-lug configuration (a standard Gretsch feature for over 50 years) for all 10" and 12" toms. The rounded badges on this five-piece shell pack are a first on any Catalina Maple kit.

All drums feature a multi-step lacquer process that produces an extremely glassy-smooth finish that is hard and durable. In addition, Gretsch partnered with Remo drumheads to produce a distinctive batter and resonant head combination.

Catalina Maple drums are easy to tune and produce full tones right out of the box. Add-on drums are also available to allow for further drum set expansion.

Cymbals and hardware sold separately.

  • Amazing kit! Sounds great plays loud.

As reviewed by marcelo on 2/22/2015

What can I say. I have been playing for 35 yrs started with Yamaha then to Pearl. My current studio kit is a Pearl Reference kit. So when I embarq on a journey for a gig kit it had to fit the bill. 1) must be Maple 2) must be road worthy 3) must fit budget of $3500 ( kit, road bags, and hardware) Tall order. It came down to Tama Superstar and this Catilina. Not only did the Catilina play better with the stock heads but once you replaced then to Evans G2 the kit will blow you away! The only thing wrong with the kit would be an option for a virgin kick. I only set up the 12,14,16 and this kit groves. I play anything from Paul Simon the puddle of mudd and the kit so far holding up to my expectations. If your having second thoughts about this kit then go out and take them for a test drive. Price, playability and road worthy take from me who has gone through a ton of gear this kit will be in my arsenal for years to come. Cheers And keep playing

  • Awesome Kit!

As reviewed by MARC on 12/12/2014

I have been playing drums for over 30 years (with a few short breaks). I primarily played Tama kits with a few Ludwig thrown in. Before I purchased this kit, I was looking at the DW Design kit. Now there is no comparison for the overall quality between the two, but as far as value and cost, the Gretsch does win hands down. Also, this is a fantastic sounding kit. I do like the stock Remo heads that come with it, but also purchased some Evans G2 heads which make the maple kit sound even better. If you are looking for a great value for the non-beginner, then this kit is the one. It also looks fantastic. I ordered the Black Bronze Sparkle. I do not think you can go wrong with this one!

  • Damn it sounds good!

As reviewed by Christian on 10/6/2014

I have owned this drum set for almost a month now and the title says it all. I've been playing general percussion for 10 years now and drum set for about 6. My old drum set before this was a beginner Sound Percussion 4-piece made of poplar wood and, obviously, there's a MAJOR difference, as there should be. Since poplar is a cheap wood to make drum sets out of, that set was mainly for me to get down the basics of the drum set and less focused on sounding amazing. I definitely needed an upgrade and I really loved the Grestch sound so I bought this drum set, changed the heads to Evans G2 and I'm like, "Wow, this is what a drum set sounds like?!" Ha. The maple drum shells give it that warm, more low end, and definitely a louder sound. My guitarist says the bass kicks harder/louder and the toms resonate better (however, partly due to Evans heads). I play alternative, hard, punk, and classic rock and this drum set is good for that as well as jazz. I feel more versatile with it. It's been my biggest investment in my entire life and that's ok, because it's my future. I absolutely love this drum set and I don't think I could've invested in a better sounding drum set for me... Ok, maybe a DW, ha.
