Comments about Gon Bops Fiesta Cajon Walnut Front Plate:

As a gigging percussionist, I've been searching and trying Cajons for a few months. Being on a tight budget, when this Gon Bops came up on sale, I jumped on it. I hadn't seen adjustable snares at this price point (a plus). I was pleasantly surprised at the nice warm base tone this Cajon produced. The snare adds a nice crack to the high end slaps. Throw in free shipping, the included seat cushion and a padded travel bag, it added up to an excellent value (the walnut face makes it a good looker too). I thought the quality was very good considering the price. There are better, higher priced Cajons, but this is a sweet sounding instrument and I can't wait to use it for acoustic tunes during our gigs.

    Beginner Cajon

    By Seth Gang

Comments about Gon Bops Fiesta Cajon Walnut Front Plate:

This is my first cajon and also my first percussion instrument. I've been playing acoustic guitar for a couple years and decided I wanted to try my hand at a little percussion. The cajon seemed like something that had a wide variety of sounds, was easily transportable, and was budget friendly. This cajon is just that. If you're looking for something to learn basic technique without spending a fortune on something that you may or may not continue with, then this is a great option. For the price, this is just about the quality I would expect from any instrument. This cajon is sufficient for learning, for those impromptu jam sessions in the den with the kids, or sitting out on the beach just making noise with your buddies. The Gon Bops Fiesta does leave you wanting more, though. The bass tones are not as full as those of a little higher quality, but are very comparable to those of the same price range. The same can be said of the range of tones for this cajon; it's on par with others of the same price range, but not of those with a higher quality (including others made by Gon Bops). The difference in tone for the different strikes is much smaller than in higher qaulity (and higher priced) cajons that I've had the chance to demo. I'm a little disappointed in the adjustable snare. When it's on, it sounds great; however, you can't really turn it all the way off as it is advertised. When the adjustable knob is turned off, you can still hear the snare wires ringing against one another. The faceplate looks as though it was attached in a hurry. The screws are not evenly inserted. In a couple places the distance between holes on the faceplate is slightly different than the distance between holes on the frame. This causes some slight "bubbling" in the surface, which can't be good for the tone. Some of the screws are countersunk nearly all the way through the faceplate, while others aren't really countersunk at all. This causes a problem for the beginner cajon player who happens to strike one of those screw heads with his hand. I've tried adjusting the screws, but the way that the pilot holes were pre-drilled unevenly, and the fact the holes in the frame don't exctly line up with the holes in the faceplate, makes that a little difficult. I'm having fun learning basic cajon technique on this one and my kids love playing around on it, but if I stick with my endeavor to learn percussion for a longer period of time, then I can see outgrowing this model for a higher quality one soon.

    Good value for decent instrument

    from Cheyenne, WY

Comments about Gon Bops Fiesta Cajon Walnut Front Plate:

I purchased this Cajon for use in worship and acoustic jam sessions. It works great for those settings. The size is good. Sound is decent. Overall quality is decent. This is a great starter package. The ability to adjust or turn off the snare wires plus a seat and carrying bag make this a no-brainer for the beginning (or intermediate) player on a budget. Cons: the bass is lacking and less deep and defined than more expensive models I have played. The adjustment on the snare wires works, but isn't quite as easy to tighten or fine tune as more expensive models with, for example, a foot pedal. The snare knob takes some time to get used to adjusting if you want more than just "on or off." Pros: Good overall sound. Snare wires CAN be turned off completely on the walnut model (the knob is in the picture). Bonus seat cushion. Bonus carrying bag. Great quality for the price. A great cajon. If you want top quality, spend double the price. If you want function, value, and decent sound, this is a great choice.
