My first cajon

By Stephen Bracciotti

from York, ME

Comments about Gon Bops Alex Acuna Signature Cajon:

Being a novice in the world of cajon playing, I did quite a bit of research and comparison on-line.I learned that the Latin American cajon is a little different than those used in Flamenco. The difference being the Latin one does not have a wire snare that sympathically vibrates. Given my budget and my love of Latin music, I opted for one without the snare when I came across a video of Alex Acuna discussing and demonstrating his signature cajon. I made the choice and took delivery on the Gon Bops Alex Acuna Signature Cajon. It is a beautiful instrument with lots of variation in tones. A rich bass and high end that can mimic a rim shot on a snare drum. The adjustable front plate gives options on the tone as well. The looks of this instrument is astoundingly beautiful; rich mohena wood sides, top and back and a light responsive front plate for the playing area. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a truly fine cajon rich with the Latin sound. Handmade in Peru.
