Overview

The Godin ACS-SA is a nylon-string guitar that blends classical guitar concepts with elements of solid body design. The comfortable neck from the Godin Multiac Nylon Guitar is used here with a maple body and cedar top to achieve an affordable synth access guitar. Although the body is chambered, response from the cedar top is more typical of a solid body designs than that of a traditional acoustic guitar. This design results in a guitar that is virtually free of feedback, making the Godin ACS-SA easy to use even when the band gets loud.

The engine in the ACS-SA guitar includes individual transducer saddles powered by a customized preamp system from the RMC Pickup Company. This system not only produces superb amplified sound, but also produces hexaphonic output through a 13-pin connector enabling direct access to Roland GR-Series guitar synthesizers.

Includes gig bag.

Great Guitar!

By Classical Matt

from Canton, OH

Comments about Godin ACS-SA Nylon String Cedar Top Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've played guitar for a little over 20 years, everything from rock to jazz to fusion. As of the last couple of years, I've devoted most of my playing and studying to Classical music. When time to upgrade my played-out Ibanez nylon, I chose this instrument because of the synth access with nylon strings, which seems to be hardly offered in the market. What a great choice! This may be the most well-build, quality instrument I've ever played. Sounds great plugged in, and loud enough unplugged to practice without bugging my wife. I was concerned that the neck wouldn't be wide enough for me (I like a full classical 2"), but the string spacing is actually better than most 2" I've played. I've only messed around with the synth through my old GR33, and yet to make sensitivity adjustments, but it seems way better than the GK3 on my strat. I don't think one can go wrong with this instrument!

Comments about Godin ACS-SA Nylon String Cedar Top Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I love this guitar! I've held back buying one because it didn't have a traditional look, and also it didn't have a loud acoustic sound unamplified. But when I finally did get a chance to play one...and that amplified sound is just so sweet. Plus... seeing Sylvain Luc play one of these on YouTube pretty much convinced me that this guitar will get it done.
The synth tracking is a whole, whole lot better than the Roland Ready Strat, and the GK-2 pickups I use. I am very, very impressed that it works great with my Roland GR-33 as I have been so disappointed with synth tracking previously.
Quality is tops. I got the Black Pearl. She is gorgeous.
I did experience some sympathetic rattling of the compartment cover in the back of the guitar. it was loose for some reason, but easily tightened to solve the issue.
Its really an electric guitar, so don't be overly disappointed that it doesn't have much acoustic resonance unplugged.

Disappointed with guitar finish

By JohnnyGuitar

from Undisclosed

Comments about Godin ACS-SA Nylon String Cedar Top Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I rated the product a 7. I purchased it in 2009, but when I received it the finish was inconsistent on the face of the guitar, and looked a bit splotchy. It's the sort of thing I would expect on a B stock item. Other Godin guitars I have seen did not have this issue. I returned the item due to this cosmetic flaw.

I found the neck shape and feel a little odd, or just not to my liking. That's a pretty subjective thing and I wouldn't rate the product down for that unless it was a true quality defect like a warp, twist, or especially terrible design. This was "ok", I just didn't like it much as necks go.

Overall I wanted to love this product but I just didn't. It didn't sound very good to me when played through a Roland AC-60 acoustic amp by comparison to other nylon string guitars I own including a Cedar top Cordoba (not amped) and a spruce top Taylor NS32 (amped or unamped). I didn't spend that much time tweaking so perhaps with more tweaking of the amp or of another preamp pedal I could have obtained a better sound. I was disappointed enough with the look and feel that when the sound wasn't spot on, I didn't spend a lot of time trying to coax a better tone out.

Generally I think its a decent guitar and probably great for live nylon work in a loud venue. The cosmetic flaw was indicative of a much less expensive instrument, and neck felt awkward and cheapish to me. I have a professional guitarist friend who owns one of these and loves it for live performance in loud venues. At the price point of the ACS-SA, its a relatively affordable option for a solid body nylon string. The synth connection is interesting as a feature and seems mostly unique to Godin. Notably, the other Godins with similar features are quite a bit more.

I didn't hate it, but it fell short of expectations. I'd recommend before buying one of these you lay hands and eyes on one in a store. Then, if you want to take your chances with a mail order item, give it a shot. Maybe I just got a bad one.

A Total Joy to Play

By Liam Walter

from Grass Lake, MI

Comments about Godin ACS-SA Nylon String Cedar Top Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is beyond a doubt one of, if not the finest crafted instruments I have ever played, let alone owned. The action is suberb, and the neck feels like heaven. This guitar plays easier than the Remirez a friend of mine owns. The finish looks wonderful, and it sounds great. Where was this guitar when I was in Music School?

A great guitar

By Strother

from Minneapolis

Comments about Godin ACS-SA Nylon String Cedar Top Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I played classical guitar for decades then switched pretty much full time to steel string acoustic. But I still like to play around on nylon and find this guitar to be ideal for that. I play it far more than my Ramirez IA classic, mainly because I can plug in. The neck has a solid, substantial feel and produces really nice consistent sound when I run it through my acoustic amp. It needs amplification, but if you have young kids you can play this unamped without waking anybody, which I actually like quite a bit for early morning and late night playing and so on. I am still amazed with the concept of an electric classical guitar and Godin has done a fine job with this one. Looks cool, sounds great plays well. Really good value for the money. Highly recommend.

3rd Time's the charm!

By Stringmusician

from Portland, OR

Comments about Godin ACS-SA Nylon String Cedar Top Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I just received my THIRD Godin Nylon ACS SA from M-Freind today. The first one I sent back had a really ugly top and nicks in the headstock. the second one had and nick in the top and SERIOUS high frets that even after loosening the truss rod all the way could not get rid of the buzzes. The one I got today played great right out of the box (to my surprise). I was beginnning to wonder if M-Friend was sending out "B-stock" items OR if Godin's quality control is just REALLY BAD. Anyway, I'm happy with this one!

What a beauty!

By bainelaker

from San Francisco, CA

Comments about Godin ACS-SA Nylon String Cedar Top Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Great guitar, better value. Excellent feeling neck, very slim yet substantial. Playable for days. Be aware, this is not really an "acoustic" guitar, unplugged volume is less than your typical hollow-bodied electric. That said, the plugged in sound is beautiful, when run through the right gear - normally I'm using it for recording, running through Onyx or Avalon preamp into a 88.1/24 rig. Sounds great. Synth tracking is excellent, when paired with an Axon AX-100 - must set the unit up correctly, however. The only real complaint I have with the ACS is that the strap buttons could be more substantial.. the guitar is very light, but I still don't feel utterly confident with them. Also, the action was a bit high upon receipt of the guitar, after shipping from the midwest to Northern California - no real biggie, 30 seconds with the truss rod fixed it. All in all, an utterly versatile and inspirational guitar.
