The cutaway Godin 5th Avenue CW Kingpin II makes the affordable North American archtop electric guitar a reality! Its paired Godin Kingpin P90 single-coil pickups deliver classic vintage tone with presence, clarity, and a little attitude thrown in for good measure!

With the soul of a 1950's archtop, the Godin 5th Avenue is a true vintage spirit of yesterday with today's level of modern guitar playability. With more projection and volume in the lows and mid tones than traditional archtop acoustic guitars, the dynamically rich tone of the 5th Avenue makes this sophisticated guitar a dream to play, but not a nightmare to pay for. From alt-country, Delta blues, slide, jazz to rock, the 5th Avenue really delivers both acoustically and electrically.

Crafted from Canadian wild cherry, the body of the 5th Avenue boasts a molded arched top and back. An adjustable bridge, classic f-holes, contoured high-gloss headstock, floating pickguard and cream binding enhance the 5th Avenue guitar's classic looks. Also, the rustic beauty of its custom polished finish gives the 5th Avenue a gorgeous satin sheen reminiscent of 19th century French polishes.

Godin includes a TRIC case that provides a level of impact protection for your 5th Avenue guitar rivaling that offered by many flight cases. The TRIC case is just slightly heavier than a typical gig bag, yet its ability to resist changes in temperature make it one of the finest innovations in guitar protection in years.

    Godin 5th Ave CW Kingpin

Comments about Godin 5th Avenue CW Kingpin II Archtop Electric Guitar:

Out of the box this thing was impeccable, no flaws. Very well made, great acoustic sound (I don't plug it in very often), and as everyone else has said very playable size. And the cognac burst is gorgeous. Great value for $900ish.

    Great value for money

    By Vasudeva Muppalla

    from Raleigh, NC

Comments about Godin 5th Avenue CW Kingpin II Archtop Electric Guitar:

I was looking for an acoustic electric guitar for the ability to practice unplugged. The presence of a pickup offers additional flexibility of playing the instrument. The cutaway was also something that interested me although the neck is attached more like an acoustic, making the cutaway not as useful for improving access. I replaced the recommended 12 guage nickel wounds with 11 guage John Pearse PB and the tone improved markedly. I like the bronze tones in an acoustic and if you use a plectrum ( pick), it is fairly loud even unplugged. And yes, I love the smell of cherry wood whenever air gushes out the sound holes. The guitar is pretty light and easy to carry around. I was able to adjust at the bridge to the lowest height and even with 11 guage strings, there is no fret buzz at the lowest setting - at this setting, the guitars' playability is remarkable. The following are my observations about build quality- Finish - The neck showed small gap with the body where set. I don't have experience with acoustic guitars as much and so maybe they are all like that. There were tiny bits ( of wood) sticking under the polish. Usability - The bridge pickup was attached with wood screws onto a laminate- they soon came off. I bought some sheet metal screws with nuts, some washers and replaced the wood screws. Getting the nut/washer combination inside took some skill.

A Lot of Guitar for the Money

    By Christopher Lynch

    from San Diego, CA

Comments about Godin 5th Avenue CW Kingpin II Archtop Electric Guitar:

I wanted the single pickup version of this guitar as an entry-level guitar for learning jazz, based on playing it for 10 minutes at a GC store. But on a whim, I popped for the bridge pickup and the cutaway, seeing more versatility. I was not disappointed. In addition to my jazz explorations, I found that this instrument could carve out gorgeous bluesy tones like a 335, and tangy, crackling chickin pickin riffs from the back pickup, like a Tele. And since it has a ton of natural acoustic sustain, a distortion/echo pedal produces effortless, wailing leads that just flow on forever. All of these are enhanced by the giant dynamic range typical of acoustics. Top it off with the pleasant look and feel of nice workmanship, and you have enough guitar to express almost anything you might want to say. I got mine in the natural finish, and I could not be more pleased.

Comments about Godin 5th Avenue CW Kingpin II Archtop Electric Guitar:

There are not too many choices on the market when it comes to hollow body electrics with single coil pickups. A GC sales rep showed me this guitar and I was hooked. Great quality and craftsmanship, tremendous sound, super playable and all at a reasonable price. Comes with a far-out case too!

    By vince

    from wall new jersey

Comments about Godin 5th Avenue CW Kingpin II Archtop Electric Guitar:

i went after this one because i have the king pin one which i bought after reading a review.the review gave it good grades. Mine had one p 90 I love it. But i really wanted a full hollow body electric. I also want to get below the 12 th fret . When the two came out, it had the cut away i was sold infact i wished i had waited. the sound quality off amp is great but extremely mellow plugged into my fender acoustasounic. I loved to a have a gibson or a george benson ibaenz but for this price cant beat it.

    Beautiful Archtop

    By Josh

    from Calgary, AB

Comments about Godin 5th Avenue CW Kingpin II Archtop Electric Guitar:

This is a very nice guitar with an incredible sound. I love the range of tones that the twin p-90's push out - there is a lot to work with. One minor drawback was the tone selector switch. Nearly all the ones I saw had very sloppy switches that buzzed badly even when you were playing single notes. I had the store swap it out for something a little higher end, and the problem is fixed. Overall, an amazing value!
