From the Godin LM and Godin LG guitars to the Godin SD models and every model in between—their impeccable quality makes each guitar and bass the perfect companion for years of playing. Godin-branded guitars are mostly mid to top-range electrics made of wood from North America. Additionally they make acoustic and acoustic-electric guitars and a full line of bass guitars.
Robert Godin set out to enhance the design of the guitar, an instrument he believed lends itself to innovation. He found the "endless musical possibilities in guitar design" an intriguing challenge. Some of those possibilities can be found in the Multiac, a nylon-string guitar that can be played at stage volumes by guitarists more comfortable with steel-string guitars. Some Signature Series Guitars use piezo pickups under the bridge that add acoustic guitar tones to the traditional electric guitar sounds produced by their conventional pickups. And then there's the Glissentar, a fretless 11-string electric guitar in a category all its own. The nylon-string Glissentar, based on a marriage of the traditional Western guitar and the North African oud, is aimed at guitarists who want to broaden their palette with non-western sounds. It was developed "Because the musical possibilities seemed intriguing".
Some of the professional musicians who play Godin guitars include Daryl Stuermer, Leonard Cohen, Habib Koité, John McLaughlin, Jazz Crusaders guitarist Giovanni Guido, bassist Trevor Bolder of Uriah Heep, and Eric McFadden, whoplays a Godin 5th Avenue Kingpin P90.
