  • A diamond in the rough...

As reviewed by MIKE OCASIO on 2/14/2012

With so many great guitars available today, I am so glad I came across the Godin Company in my search. I had my heart set on a Gibson Les Paul and the Studios were in my budget/ price range. I played a few of the Studios at GC but wasn't really happy with the quality because of some fret buzzing I experienced with the Low E string. So I started looking at what else was available. The Godin Icon Type 2 Convertible was a perfect choice for me. The neck plays very nicely. The fit and finish is top notch. For this price you also get binding on the chambered body and the head stock, something that costs much more if it has the Gibson name on it. The toggles may look confusing for some, but you quickly find how easily you adapt to the wide variety of sounds available, get for cover bands. The sounds that you can get from the Duncan P-rails are just incredible. With my Orange Tiny Terror Combo which is a single channel amp, I can set it up to get a get rock tone and just by rolling off the volume of the Godin, the sound cleans up very nicely for a sweet clean tone. Even with no delay or reverb added, the sound chimes crystal clear. The HDR is a very nice bonus added, it take an already great sound and adds definition overall. Its hard to describe, but picture it like going from regular TV to HD TV, its the same difference but for your ears instead of your eyes. Very pleased with this purchase!

  • Best guitar I ever purchased. Strat barely sees light of day. Gibson - SOLD!

As reviewed by Peter Whyte on 2/2/2014

I hate reviews that 'gush' but I am going to write one right now. This has become my 'go to' guitar. My great American Strat has been closeted and my Gibson ES175 is SOLD. This beautiful piece of work replaced them both. I have owned my ICON 2 for about 9 months now, so it has had a reasonable workout to come to this assessment. The guitar feels right in my hands and the neck is as playable as I have ever had. The workmanship is exceptional but the sound is where it stands out. When I need Srat sounds, they are there. Humbuckers, yes!! and more. The extra 'boost' butjton is perfect when solo time comes. One small complaint is that I lose tuning on the 3rd string more often than I'd like. I use 10's. I now have my eye on a Session Tripleplay for MIDI use. If it plays anything like my ICON 2 Convertible, I will be very happy. One more note,EVERY guitar player who has laid his hands on this axe has said 'Wow!', so its not just me. I apologize for gushing.
