The cutaway Godin 5th Avenue CW Kingpin II makes the affordable North American archtop electric guitar a reality! Its paired Godin Kingpin P90 single-coil pickups deliver classic vintage tone with presence, clarity, and a little attitude thrown in for good measure!
With the soul of a 1950's archtop, the Godin 5th Avenue is a true vintage spirit of yesterday with today's level of modern guitar playability. With more projection and volume in the lows and mid tones than traditional archtop acoustic guitars, the dynamically rich tone of the 5th Avenue makes this sophisticated guitar a dream to play, but not a nightmare to pay for. From alt-country, Delta blues, slide, jazz to rock, the 5th Avenue really delivers both acoustically and electrically.
Crafted from Canadian wild cherry, the body of the 5th Avenue boasts a molded arched top and back. An adjustable bridge, classic f-holes, contoured high-gloss headstock, floating pickguard and cream binding enhance the 5th Avenue guitar's classic looks. Also, the rustic beauty of its custom polished finish gives the 5th Avenue a gorgeous satin sheen reminiscent of 19th century French polishes.
Goding includes a TRIC case that provides a level of impact protection for your 5th Avenue guitar rivaling that offered by many flight cases. The TRIC case is just slightly heavier than a typical gig bag, yet its ability to resist changes in temperature make it one of the finest innovations in guitar protection in years.

There are not too many choices on the market when it comes to hollow body electrics with single coil pickups. A GC sales rep showed me this guitar and I was hooked. Great quality and craftsmanship, tremendous sound, super playable and all at a reasonable price. Comes with a far-out case too!
Sure, it's made in Canada, but close enough. There is no comparison in build quality to the contemporaries, even beyond its price point. I picked up the satin black, and I still don't think there's a better looking hollow body that could be bought new today. Setup was a snap. Set the intonation and check your neck's bow, and you're off to the races. I had my uncle, over 40 years of guitar playing and gigging experience double check my work. "Plays like buttah!" He said.
The hardware is also top notch. The P90 pickups sound incredible going through an overdriven tube, and you really have to crank it to get it to feedback. The tuners are very sturdy and easy to get right on the mark. The graphite bridge is very unique, and supposedly is far superior in sound quality. I suppose if most of the nuts are also made of the same material, it's probably good. So many people have blown serious cake on upgrading their horrid hardware because they wanted to save on the initial price. Check the Gretsch forums, and you'll find that almost none of them are still stock. Admittedly, it is fun to customize your hardware, but not for the sake that the original equipment was crap.
Sure, a Gibson ES335 will give this puppy a run for its money. But, it's a boatload more expensive because the Gibson name is worth its weight in murre. However, you'd be hard pressed to cough up the extra cake for the same type of creature. A hand-made hollow body made on this continent by people that can play their creations. Even better, it comes with that sweet TRIC case that seems to be pretty stout. If you're going on tour, you'd probably want something a bit more armored, but for a standard case, it's pretty damn good.
All said, I'll definitely buy another guitar from Godin. You should too.
I am a novice player. I play for my own enjoyment and also for our Church choir every Sunday. I have limited experience and researched this Guitar extensively. I thought it would be a good choice for a little Blues picking and versatile enough with the two P-90 pickups that I could use it with the Choir and anything else that I would want to do. I was right on both counts. The quality is excellent and it required a minimal amount of set to get a nice low action and make it very easy to play. I started playing when I was 48 and ease of play is important to me since I am trying to make for lost time. It is a great deal of fun when played thru my Fender Super Champ and not that it's really important, but it is a gorgeous piece.
For the price, I believe it is a great value.
