I have been a regular at every guitar store I can find, playing and checking out the guitars, comparing, reading online reviews etc. I finally bought a songwriter dlx cutaway, I had it down to a martin acoustic electric and this and another martin. This played as well as the Taylors I played and sounded similar to the Martin in deep, powerful, loud bass, but when I reall strummed hard it was the only one that didn't get muddy. I really whaled on the guitars and this one took it the best. I also must say that when I examined very closely each guitar, they all were fine, but the Gibson was perfect. There were a couple of small glue marks on the Martin, and a couple of slight very slight imperfections on the Taylor but the Gibson was perfect. The Taylor sounded thin to me too. Final judgement, the Gibson sounded best, played best, and looked like a supermodel next to your grandmother in comparison. One interesting thing I liked but didnt' realize until later is the pick guard on the Gibson is sort of rubbery like and has a nice curved edge to it. It feels custom. Now add the electronics and it's no contest. I only wish it was a 24 3/4 scale. Nicest guitar I ever played. It's just fun to sit on the couch and strum some chords and listen to them. It just sounds so musical. You end up playing all the songs you know just to hear them on it. It's fun. Don't worry you will love it after you have it a while. I like mine more and more and was really afraid to spend $2,000 on a box.

I read all of the reviews here prior to buying this Gibson Songwriter Deluxe, and I hate to be the first to give a less than perfect review. Once I have it for a year, I will write another review in case my opinion changes. After playing for at least 30 years, I have my share of guitars. I have a Taylor 854ce 12-string that I love and has the best neck action of any guitar I have ever owned. I wanted a new 6-string acoustic and was set to by the Martin Aura model, but having owned a Martin D35 in the past, I wanted to find a different sound. No doubt the quality of my new Gibson is great. My only complaint, having ordered this one online, is that the action/playability is horrible. I could just about slide my fingers between the neck and strings. I don't recommend buying this guitar online. If you like it, go to the store and pick one up instead. I dropped it off at a luthier today to do a complete setup on the guitar and fix the action among other problems he saw. Hopefully, this will fix the issue and I will once again be happy. Had I to do it over, I would buy at the store, and I probably would have paid a few dollars more to get the same model in a Custom which gets a little more loving care at Gibson to begin with.

I like it better than my Taylor

By Jade Delves

from Tulsa, Ok.

I own a Taylor 715, Serial # 484. Jumbo body, huge sound and have loved it for years. I played this Gibson one time and bought it the next day. I haven't picked up the Taylor since I got it home. The sound is crisp and rich; the action is phenomenal. It's the first Gibson I've ever owned, but it won't be my last. If this guitar is indicative of the quality they put into their instruments, I'll buy another one. If you're at all considering it, take the plunge. You won't be sorry.

My First Guitar

By M D

from Wellington, OH

After my 2 sons started to learn to play bass and electric guitar, I fell in love with the sound of guitars. For 5 months I went to GC and asked others to play acoustic guitars for me. After hearing the Gibson Songwriter Deluxe Studio EC --that was it for me and I started lessons immediately in Dec '09. It's been 9 months and I couldn't be happier with my decision. It is easy play and I don't want to put it down. Love It!

OVER THE MARTIN

By J

from San Diego, CA

I played many and almost bought another Martin. Then, I played the Songwriter Deluxe, Studio EC. It felt better in weight, neck, sturdiness. It sounds tremendous. A full sound with bright highs. Throught the amp, the Fishman is like a sound of the Sirens. The built-in tuner is a nice feature, too. Great action. Easy to play. I actual think I play better because of the guitar. I would buy it again.

Truly the second best acoustic guitar I have ever picked up in my life. Just the feel of this guitar is incredible and the sound is even better. Truly a great guitar, it's worth every penny.

Best guitar ever

By Chuck

from Las Vegas, NV

I bought this guitar in December 2006 and have waited to review until now so the flush of new ownership could wear off. This guitar just keeps getting better and better with age. I own 3 other high end acoustic guitars and 2 electrics and I hardly ever play them anymore. Everytime I start to pick up one of the others I keep getting drawn to the Gibson. The sound is phenomenal and it plays like butter. Spend the extra money and get this guitar, it will give you a lifetime of musical pleasure.

Gibson Sound

By JCM

from Maryland

I recently purchased this guitar and as always it has the true Gibson Sound...There`s nothing in the world like it. The action of the neck and fretboard is very fast with no strain on your fingers. The sound is very warm and loud even without an amplifier. This instrument is a Beautiful piece of work in every way, I call it "The Gibson Art". I would tell anyone this guitar is worth every penny you spent on it and the Harshell Case is awsome too. Buy one today you will love it.

Hard to believe i would ...

By bardsong

from Bridgeport, CT

Hard to believe i would ever give any guitar perfect a score but I cannot see any thing wrong with mine. I purchased one about 2 months ago after playing about 100 different quitars in every dealer near me.I was originally leaning toward a rosewood d-45 untill I picked this up.. it has a small body..perfect worksmanship.. the tone is bright .. great sustain.. the electronics are wonderfull..even smells good.. ROSEWOOD!!...only problem I see with it is that I can't seem to put it down. all the other axes are feeling left out and lonely. I never thought i would say my martin sounded flat but it does next to this instrument..If you like the gibson acoustic sound, than I can't think of a nicer way to go.... but of course play as many different guitars as you can first!!!

Awesome

By Sam Tedell

from Big Rock, IA

I don't own this guitar, but have spent my fair share of time playing it in stores. I have to say, this is the best acoustic guitar i've ever played. I think it's even better than my 1969 alvarez. I can only dream of when to buy it. If you can afford it, GET IT!
