I had set out to buy the Gibson Hummingbird, and found a Guitar Center that had one in stock. On a whim, I played the Songwriter Deluxe, and fell in love with it! The sound is perfect - the classic Gibson hum and punch, with crystal clear highs and full lows. This guitar has a beautiful voice which is perfect for vocal accompaniment (which is what the Hummingbird "square shoulder" line was designed for) or solo or lead acoustic parts. It sounds amazing plugged into an amp. I played every Gibson, Martin, and Taylor that I could find for weeks, and this one sounds so beautiful, that I could not pass it up! To my ear, this sounds like the Hummingbird and J-45, with a little more depth and clarity. The fit and finish were absolutely perfect - dead straight neck, not one scratch or imperfection anywhere. This guitar draws a reaction from everybody who sees and hears it, musician or not. The action is just right, and the intonation is dead on - every string and every fret, it is right on the money! I didn't intend to get a guitar with gold hardware, but these Grover tuners are perfect here. I could not be happier with the Songwriter Deluxe, and I would buy another one in a heartbeat! Do not pass this one up!

I tried this baby out at my local guitar center right after trying out a $1600 Martin. All I can say is that I was expecting much more from a Gibson Acoustic. The Martin blew it away by a mile. The Gibson Songwriter's tone was not as good as the Martin, and niether was the playablilty. I was looking for a new acoustic to play in my band, and I chose the Martin for its superior tone and feel, and for the cost. You could get a better guitar for half the price.

An Amazing Guitar !

By Dennis

from Buffalo Ill

In 2012 I decided to learn to play the Guitar I am now 57 years old A friend of mine who was also giving me tips on playing took me with him to a Guitar Center store in Peoria Ill.We stepped into the acoustic room, was looking at the Taylor and Martins when my friend told me to Listen to this ,What i heard was the most rich toned and clear ringing music that I had ever heard , he handed it to me and said try this , O when I held the Gibson Songwriter Deluxe I fell in Love with it immediately ,I walked out of there with an amazing sounding and feeling Guitar more than I could have imagined. The staff there was so helpful ! I have been back there often as I can being it's over an hour away ! I am so glad I own my Gibson Songwriter Deluxe ! If you're thinking about it ! Just buy it you won't regret it ! I am hooked on Gibson !

One of the Best Gibson Guitars on the market.

By Niki Starr

from Gladewater, Tx

I just bought this Guitar from Guitar Center. I have to say it is truly amazing. I have sat and played this guitar over and over for hours in a course of over 2 years before I decided to buy it. Let me just say I am a Martin guy through and through. I have a D15 that I would never sell and think is just perfection at it's best. That's why I was just simply amazed at how great this guitar truly is. The best part is I can plug this guitar into my Fishman Loudbox acoustic amp and just discover a whole new world. The build and finish is as good as any Les Paul Custom I own and you should do yourself a favor and consider this guitar. Each guitar you pickup teaches you something different about how your ear hears music. Take time to try this guitar out. You will be just as amazed as I was when you sit and play it. I just had to have it after that!

Buy it and be happy !!!

By Connie

from Moses Lake, Wa

I purchased this guitar two years ago. It has become a part of my heart; I can't imagine life without it. The tones are beyond beautiful. I play with a group of folks that go to nursing homes, local festivals and lots of local jam sessions. It is a masterpiece! Yes, it was a little pricey . . . I had a little 1973 VW bug I sold to buy it . . . I loved that beetle, but I've never regretted the sale. I feel joy every time I play. Which is everyday...It is impossible to walk pass it without wanting to stop and play.

Just Buy This Guitar!!! You Will Not Be Disappointed!

By Tim

from Portland, Oregon

I spent about 2 hours playing various acoustic guitars at GC, trying to find an acoustic guitar that would be versatile, and had the maximum amount of sustain and had the perfect balance of bass, mids and treble. I had narrowed it down between this guitar and a Martin HD-28. The issue that I had with the Martin was that the sound seemed far too mid-scooped for me and maybe too much emphasis on the bass (strictly my opinion and I am not knocking Martin in any way). Another selling point was this guitar had electronics already installed and the Martin did not. I also compared this guitar against other guitars that cost much more and according to my ears, it blew them away! The sustain and resonance on this guitar with strumming, lead, and finger style really caught my ear and sold me on the spot! The quality is totally awesome and playability is just perfect for me! I am also really impressed with the inlays on the fretboard and headstock. All the lines are really clean with no sharp frets and no faults in the nitrocellulose clear coat that covers the guitar. All in all I think this baby is an excellent buy!!!

The Songwriter Deluxe

By BIG DAVE

from Richmond,VA

I just purchased my second SWD. I sold my first one 5 years ago and have missed it dearly since then. I tried many other big time name brands including expensive Martins and Taylors ,even a custom shop Breedlove that cost much more than the SW; however none had the shimering sound and tones like this guitar. I am a Gibson man and a Guitar Center fan for working out decent deals for me. This guitar is well balanced and feels better in the hands and arms than most dreadnoughts ,a little smaller in size ,but huge in tone and playability. I do like the tone of Martins and even a few Taylors , but the SWD has its own bell ringing character and the neck , even though unbound is tremendous and comfortable. This is a very loud guitar and also sounds great plugged in. The only Gibsons sounding better in my opinion are the SJ 200 and the Advanced Jumbo, nothing else compares for that Gibson sound. Also, even though the SWD is gaining in popularity and now available in several wood top choices ;it still remains a tone machine secret in the world of dreadnoughts. A GREAT INVESTMENT

Best Guitar Out There

By Guitar Addict

from Lancaster, PA

I've owned my Gibson Songwriter for 6 years now, and it only continues to improve with age! Right out of the box, it was perfect! Just the right string action for me. It tuned perfectly all along the fretboard, and still does! A beautiful balance of bass, mids, and trebles, whether pickin' or chordin'! Not to mention its beauty!! You can't find a better guitar for the price!! Buy one! You'll be glad you did. I AM!!

A Beautiful Piece of work

By MogoHoncho

from Portland, OR

I own a Martin D-28 that I purchased new in 1968. I have been searching for another guitar that would compliment, not replace it, in my home studio production. Something with exquisite sound, but different from the sound of my Martin. The Songwriter is it. Extremely playable, smooth, bright and brilliant tone, and a great feeling neck. The electronics are top drawer and the guitar sounds fantastic when plugged in, although I will be using most of the time unplugged. You can tell it was hand made with care. This is a beautiful instrument, thanks Gibson.

Excellent Guitar

By BP27

from Miami, Fl

By far one of the best acoustic guitars I've ever owned. I owned a Washburn given to me as a gift and would rarely play it because the neck was just not right. Before buying this guitar I tried Martins, Yamahas, and Taylors. This one just felt and sounded right. Action is a bit high for me, but it is something easily fixed.

Great Acoustic Guitar

By Roundhouse Rocker

from NY

I picked one of these up a few months ago. I have been looking for a good acoustic guitar for the last several months. When I was trying acoustic guitars I was drawn to the songwriter because of its tone and ability to cut through. Maybe I just got lucky, but, I played Taylor?s and Martins and nothing compared to the songwriter deluxe. I find myself playing more now than I ever have. It?s a quality instrument with great features.
