Comments about Gibson RB-250 Standard Pattern 5-String Banjo:
Mine is a 1993 RB 250. It is one of the best sounding, easy playing banjos I have ever played and the tone has only improved with age and use. I am partial to the tone of a mahogany banjo and I really like the more simple tasteful visual appearance of the RB 250. Set up is very important for any banjo and I have used and recommend Steve Huber's video on Killer Tone to set mine up. The only thing I have done differently from Steve is I prefer medium gage strings instead of lights. As a final comment, there are many fine banjos being offered out there and I'm sure they are fine instruments but they also most always compare their products to the great pre war banjos of the 1930's. Those great pre war banjos were made by Gibson! Why not buy yourself the real deal to begin with?
