American-made quality at an entry-level price.
Resurrecting one of the most popular electric guitars in Gibson's history, the Melody Maker is an accurate, affordable re-creation of the original Melody Makers of the late 1950s.

Originally introduced as a student model, much like the Les Paul Junior, the Melody Maker became a player's favorite for its light weight, comfortable neck, and great tone.

Today's Melody Maker Les Paul guitar is no exception. With a slim, light, mahogany body and set mahogany neck; period-correct pickguard housing a special design single-coil pickup; vintage-style wraparound tailpiece; rounded neck profile, and rosewood fingerboard; the Melody Maker is an unbelievable value for players of all ages, styles, and skill levels.

Keep it simple!!!

By Green-Shanks

from Livingston, AL

Comments about Gibson Melody Maker Electric Guitar:

I am well pleased with my MM. I had an original in 1964 and this instrument is a very close reissue, the exception being that the finish on the original was glossy and the polepieces were covered. My MM plays like a dream. With judicious use of the controls and the settings on my amps(Fender Blues Jr. and Fender Deluxe Reverb), I am able to get sounds ranging from vintage blues to classic rock to metal. I am consistently amused with comments about this guitar, especially in the features department. Where did logic 101 go? When a person orders an instrument as simple as this what kind of features do they expect it to have? The fit and finish of my instrument was fine. I checked everything over with jeweler's glasses and found no flaws. I have never witnessed a new instrument of this price range that was so well-made. For that matter, with expensive guitars of which I have many either. I suspect that the complainers or low raters are not good musicians or dedicated to practice. Gimmicks, bells and whistles do not make good music! Only the dedicated players do. This guitar or any other guitar will not make one play better. Only patience and practice will do that. Gibson deserves credit for this reissue! The price is obscene. When I first saw it, I thought it was a mistake! In closing, I was impressed that this guitar is exactly as advertised; nothing less, nothing more. It does do one thing-It delivers! Gearheads, like golfers who have to buy all of the new clubs will not be satisfied. The only thing to do with this guitar is set it up to you liking and play it. Learning to get the desired sounds out of it is pleasureable like learning to love a fine woman. If you are patient and practice, this instrument will be a steadfast performer to the last.

Amazing guitar

By Brian

from Germantown, Maryland

Comments about Gibson Melody Maker Electric Guitar:

Yes, I was skeptical at first. When I took it out of the box and played it at the store I was blown away. The tone and quality of the contruction and setup are top notch. It's a $350 Gibson for crying out loud. I tried to find something to complain about but can't. I love this guitar...period. I am probably going to buy a 2 pickup version next. You can't go wrong with this amazing guitar.

Simple and Elegant

By Daveh003

Comments about Gibson Melody Maker Electric Guitar:

I recently bought the white MM for my son. Between the two of us, we have several Gibsons, but he wanted an LP Jr. because he was looking for that punchy, single-coil "punk" sound that it has come to be known for. This MM had an almost identical body and was priced significantly better. In fact, for an American made Gibson, the price is incredible. I put it in his hands, and within minutes of playing it he forgot all about the LP Jr. As soon as we got home, I pulled the pickguard off and found the wiring to be just as good as my other Gibson's. The finish is a thin satin nitro, which is perfect for long term use (and cool road-wear), and the single coil pickup they put in it sounds fantastic. It's not a P-90, but it has amazing clarity and unique tone. It sounds bluesy when clean, and punchy when overdriven. Just what my son was looking for. Do not expect this guitar to be an LP, Explorer, V, or any other Gibson with the typical humbucker tonal range. This is a stripped back, simple and elegant axe. My son loves it, and I have to admit that I have been putting down my favorite LP to sneak in a little time with it too. Make no mistake - this guitar is pure Gibson. Best part of it is that it's not priced like one.

I should have never sold the 1963

By String & Reed

from Southwest, MN

Comments about Gibson Melody Maker Electric Guitar:

I owned a 1963 for a few years back in the 80's and loved it. I sold it for God knows why. After owning 20+ guitars over the years I would have to say this little heartbreaker is the real deal. It plays like melting butter in your hands. You can feel the guitar pull you into new places you have never been. For $350.00 and the words Gibson on the headstock what are you waiting for?

A real Gibson at a reasonable price!!!

By Gear acquisition syndrome sick person

from Manassas, Va

Comments about Gibson Melody Maker Electric Guitar:

As another reviewer wrote, "this is a USA made Gibson at a reasonable price and you are getting EXACTLY what is being advertised.". Although this guitar is a low end, supposedly beginner level model, you can't get a better guitar for $349. Workmanship and finish on my sunburst model were impeccable. The neck plays very well. Even though there is only one pickup (as advertised), by adjusting your amplifier and the tone/volume controls on the guitar, you can get a variety of sounds. The guitar performs particularly well for rock/blues distortion type sounds. The single pickup really wails. My only complaint is that shortly after receiving my guitar, I noticed that there is also a dual (2) pickup version which sells for $50 more or $399. If I had known this I would have purchased the dual pickup version. I could not however, find a dual pickup version in sunburst, only black or white. Overall, I am very pleased with the guitar I purchased, but may purchase the 2 pickup model as well. I strongly recommend this guitar but again emphasize that are indeed getting what is advertised.

old man look at your guitar

By Ear to Ear\,Boston

Comments about Gibson Melody Maker Electric Guitar:

This is a lightweight, well playing, good sounding box that's inexpensive and USA made too. I've been playing for many years and i know it's hard to find a guitar that really stimulates the player. I pick this guitar up and the music just seems to flow.

This guitar is the real deal.....

By Jordan H.

from Portland, Oregon

Comments about Gibson Melody Maker Electric Guitar:

I personally own a full arsenal of high end gibson guitars, and i got this guitar for rhythm guitar playing, but this guitar can compete with the others with ease when it comes to tone and playability. At first i was worried the single coil pick-up would sound "weak" to me since i play with humbuckers. But the pickup not only has the punky punch to it when it is distorted but it also has the crunchy completeness of a strong pickup like a humbucker. So in summary both the price and tone of this guitar are both amazing.

Wow, this is the best deal out there, period.

from NY

Comments about Gibson Melody Maker Electric Guitar:

Gibson made a big mistake in their pricing apparently, this MM is easily worth twice the price, but I am not complaining. I bought one of these bargains and ended up with a a guitar that is well beyond my expectations for the pricing. THere are no shortcuts taken and this is 100% made in the USA Gibson mojo. Frts were seated and all properly dressed, set-up out of the box was exactly how I would set it up for myself, low but not too low and most importantly the sound; Oh this is what the MM is all about. I was buying this with the idea that maybe if i didn't like the tone, I could swap out the pup for a P90, but no need to do that. The sound is everything and more I want.

For the record...

By chris

from south orange, NJ

Comments about Gibson Melody Maker Electric Guitar:

I first played a vintage '59 melody maker at a guitar store and loved it. But the $1200 price tag was out of my range. So when I saw this, I took a gamble that the sound and action would be relatively close. I'm glad I did. It's a made in the US and A, its a Gibson, and you can tell right away. It has that mock "vintage/ relic" look Fender puts out. Yes, this is a no frils guitar, but thats what its meant to be. You don't hesitate to play the heck out of it. The single pick-up is great, both cean and distorted. And yes, it comes in an orange cardboard Red Rider BB gun type case, but thats for the vintage appeal. If you plan on giging with it, get a cheap bag. Time will tell if I like it as much as my Fender Mustang, but I recomend it for anyone who wants a extremely playable, great sounding guitar that you're not afraid to beat up on.
