Overview

The 1960s Tribute electric guitar consists of a basic Gibson Les Paul chassis with all the essential elements needed to rock including a Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece and Kluson-style tuners keep it all rock-solid and resonant and its gnarly P-90 tone stays true to the Les Paul style.

A solid, carved maple top and chambered mahogany body give the Les Paul Studio '60s Tribute the same tonewood combination that has been helping Les Pauls rock for nearly 60 years. Authentic vintage-style finishes present a guitar with the look of a well played original, while the instrument's unbound body and neck keep it in line with the popular Les Paul Studio line.

The headstock of the Gibson Les Paul Studio 1960s Tribute is equipped with Grover Kluson style green keys. With a gear ratio of 14:1, these tuners deliver precision tuning in a durable housing that provides maximum protection for the gear and string post. The Gibson Les Paul's Tune-O-Matic bridge, sets a standard for simplicity and functionality that has never been bettered. The Tune-O-Matic provides a firm seating for the strings, allowing the player to adjust and fine-tune the intonation and string height in a matter of minutes.

Both the neck and bridge position pickups are equipped with cream-colored screaming single-coil P-90 pickups. The P-90 was the standard pickup on all Gibson guitars in the late 1940s and into the 1950s and because of its crisp, bright tone it has experienced resurgence in popularity with many of today's modern rockers. These classic Gibson guitar pickups deliver sizzling, slightly gritty midrange roar. You'll find that the P-90s' high output and biting treble has more nuanced harmonic coloring than the typical single-coil pickup.

Faded Cherry Burst

By Bryan

Comments about Gibson Limited Run Les Paul Studio '60s Tribute Electric Guitar:

Got mine last week from another retailer. Gorgeous. Smoother slim neck. Action, intonation and truss rod all needed minor adjustments but nothing big. Fret board is fantastic after a good oiling. Excellent value for under $1K.

P-90's Rock!

By MBeshada

from Richmond, VA

Comments about Gibson Limited Run Les Paul Studio '60s Tribute Electric Guitar:

Purchased a Gibson Les Paul 60's Tribute from the Guitar Center in Richmond, VA. They had two in stock, an ebony and a wonderful honey burst. I played them both but chose the honey burst. It was set up PERFECT. I don't know if it came from the factory set up or if GC set it up in the store but is sure played well. Even unplugged this guitar sounds great. Plugged in, wow! The P-90's really rock. They have a unique punchy sound when played clean and a rockin' grunge sound with just a little distortion. The only negative was the gig bag that came with the guitar. I wanted it protected so the salesman agreed to take $30 off the price that I applied to a nice hard shell case. The price is $849 with the gig bag. They let me use a 15% which brought this wonderful guitar to under $700 without the case. Even at full price this is a great guitar. I understand they are a limited edition. Get one before they are sold out.

Holy wow

By Ben

Comments about Gibson Limited Run Les Paul Studio '60s Tribute Electric Guitar:

First of all I own the 50s tribute, but it's virtually the same guitar. The only difference I can find between the 50s and 60s tributes is the neck. Mine has a 50s style neck which is just a little thicker than the 60s style. Anyways, this guitar is simply beautiful in all ways. The honeyburst finish, and the P90 pickups caught my eye right from the get go. I love the worn look, and the dirty sound I can get from the P90's. The neck is unfinished so no clear coat to slow you down, just smooth wood. This guitar sounds so nice, and playing like a dream. Give it a try if you're looking for an affordable Gibson, with a dirtier sound, and awesome looks.

Gold Top 60's Tribute

By Crank

from Palo Alto, Ca

Comments about Gibson Limited Run Les Paul Studio '60s Tribute Electric Guitar:

Nice instrument, Sales guy was able to find one at the warehouse and it arrived on 2/24. I think it is a nice instrument especially for the price point. The Gold Top looks great; the inside of the horn is pretty rough compared to the rest of the guitar and probably did not get rubbed out like the sides and back. Unlike the current picture, the rear panel is not the see-through plastic (Okay with me) and it does not have the big Orange Capacitors like the 50's version (they are tiny blue ones). The headstock had a little crud on the top edge which I was able to rub off. It plays very nicely, out of the box it was fine, but I did lower the action a bit and reset the intonation. The P90 has good tone, especially if you are into a "Less" over driven amp. Remember these are not Hum free pickups. Your guitar will buzz if you are near transformers/Light dimmers or you use tons of distortion. Whether it is your first Gibson or just one more for the collection, Iۡm sure you will enjoy itۡs looks, itۡs tone and itۡs playability

Gibson 60's Tribute Les Paul Worn Cherry sunburst finsh

By Russ Penn

from Eugene, Oregon

Comments about Gibson Limited Run Les Paul Studio '60s Tribute Electric Guitar:

As usual, I was just going to the guitar center for a cord and guitar stand...but walked out with one beautiful, tone god sounding guitar that it is! Boy, am I happy and stoked about this new guitar! I had the action lowered a bit at the store and away I went, getting that Clapton "Woman Tone" with ease. This guy rocks and wails the blues. Rarely do I find a guitar off the shelf(I always have mine set up with a guitar luthier)but in this case, done deal, wrap it up! It sounds and plays awesome and I've got really nice guitars to compare it to. I've have played a lot of Les Paul's and never found one I liked well enough to buy. For the price, you can't bet it for an American made Gibson guitar. You owe it to yourself to check one of these guys out. Maybe I just got lucky and got a good one(that count), but I don't think so. I've been playing since I was 11 years old and that was in 1961. That's a lot of guitars I've played over the years. Kudos to Todd at the Eugene Guitar Center for steering me in this direction!

Buy before they're gone!

By Bradley Blair

from Grand Rapids, MI

Comments about Gibson Limited Run Les Paul Studio '60s Tribute Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for around a month now and it's pretty awesome. I love the p-90's and the slim neck. This guitar DOES need to be set up to play to its full potential. The nut def needs to be filed. After that you've got a real winner. I got the honeyburst, the back is 4 peices so don't expect 2 nice matched planks of mahogany. This is a limited run so it wont be around forever. It's WELL worth the affordable price.

Comments about Gibson Limited Run Les Paul Studio '60s Tribute Electric Guitar:

Picked up the Ebony version on Friday. This thing is a tone machine--the P90s ring loud and clear in clean and break up beautifully when overdriven. Some reviews on the forums talk about quality issues. Though I admit, the quality is not the same as a USA Standard or Custom (body construction, tuning machines, hardware and finish), for the money, you can't beat the tone. I happen to like the chambered bodies vs the older solid and it's put together well enough to be a solid player. 5 stars on this one.

goldtop tribute

Comments about Gibson Limited Run Les Paul Studio '60s Tribute Electric Guitar:

got 1 right outta the box. had to rub out a knick, no problem. nice. had a line running thru the neck to the headstock on the grain of wood. nice piece of mahogany on the back of body, clean not discolored. felt nicer than a les paul pro with wimpy strings on the rack for $1999. i paid $691 b/4 tax. nice gat. might experiment with mini buckers and put connectors on the wires 4 easy change. played this against my o.g. melody maker 1960 with different p/guard assembly with rail bucker. close but the maker is unbelieveable for 51 y.o. this gat is worth the $ buy 1, u will be satisfied.

Comments about Gibson Limited Run Les Paul Studio '60s Tribute Electric Guitar:

Just got a honeyburst. First impression: beautiful guitar if you dig the worn, vintage look. More review to follow after playing. Lets face it though, its a USA Gibson for under $900. Its hard to go wrong.

ABOVE EXPECTATIONS

By neale murray

Comments about Gibson Limited Run Les Paul Studio '60s Tribute Electric Guitar:

Went to my local GC to buy a pedal, came home with a gold top! Apparently there is another run of gold top tributes being issued? I originally went in to buy a plimsoul pedal, saw this on the rack and couldn't believe my luck. Now, dribble aside, here is the review. magnificent finish_ perfect paint, neck straight, frets glued in without ooze, perfect set up. Intonation spot on. body is 2 piece, almost one, just a small join, smooth slim neck, (better than my Sg standard)sustain all night, great feel, SOUNDS INCREDIBLE. If you are on the fence about this model jump off and get one. You will be very happy. Great quality and tone through the roof.P90's have wonderful breakup with medium gain, Beyond my expectations, Gibson quality at its best. Well worth the $800. Nice, very very nice.
