Overview

The Gibson Limited Run Explorer Electric Bass Guitar responds to requests from bassists around the globe who desire two things from a bass—massive sustain and distinctive looks. It features Gibson's classic body design that was first introduced in 1958 as a bold new electric guitar. Being too futuristic for the times, Gibson abandoned the body shape in 1959. Not until numerous copies had become successful sellers did Gibson resurrect the Explorer design for guitars in 1976.

As a bass, a version of the Explorer was manufactured by Gibson under the banner of Epiphone, but rarely under the Gibson name. Now the wait is over. With a set mahogany neck and all mahogany body, this Explorer bass provides the sustain and clarity of tone that performing bassists seek. Dual humbuckers produce plenty of power and sonic versatility. The body is finished to highlight perfectly the harmonious silhouette of this limited-run bass.

This is one Sweet Bass Guitar

By John LaMascus

from Murrieta, CA

Part of a review is the context..., I also own a MusicMan Stingray and a Warwick Corvette. I play them through a MarkBass rig. The tone on this Gibson ax is exactly where you expect and want it to be with good, clear sweetspots. Extra long and fast neck, but ergonomically correct, excellent for top of the neck finger-picking access. The body fits(again, perfect ergonomics as an arm-rest)just right and the sustain is wonderful. This bass guitar rings like a bell. Good hardware, good controls, feeling reasonably lightweight (mohogany in rich, warm sunburst) for such a physically large instrument. My Stingray gets a wider variety of tones, and my Warwick growls a little lower, but this ax is my go-to to pound out Bluesy Rock or anything aggressive. Never any issues with it playing live. Works well with my Boss pedals. People will occasionally come up to me and say "I like the tone..., that bass sounds really good". If you are all jazz or all church music, there are some appropriate other choices.., but if you are rocking and rolling, this is one totally sweet bass guitar for the price.
