Overview

With all the usual features of a classic Gibson Les Paul, including a mahogany body, bound mahogany neck, and a bound maple top, this guitar has some unique features that really make it a true player’s guitar. Locking Grover tuners are standard, with a very easy to play “Vintage C” shape neck. It comes with a ’57 Classic Humbucker in the neck position and a Super ’57 Humbucker in the bridge position.

The truly great thing about this guitar is the electronics. It has two coil-split push/push pots for each individual pickup, which allows you to turn your pickups from a humbucker to a single-coil with a push of the volume knob. The bridge tone control also acts as a push/push coil-split selector. This is a very cool feature allowing you to select which coil is active when the humbucker is in the single-coil setting, giving you all the tonal control you could ever want. And this guitar would not be complete without a 10db boost push/push pot, allowing you to boost your sound that extra bit for those solos and leads.

The Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro IV is an amazing guitar! I was considering the purchase of the Gibson Les Paul Traditional T, however it has a larger neck. I stopped by Guitar Center near Memphis and they had this Iced Tea beauty. The string height was a little high so the nice folks there adjusted it for me multiple times. It plays like a dream! The push/push knobs work perfectly and the sound this guitar makes is amazing. I added some aged nickle pickup covers and a "Traditional" truss rod cover to finish it out.
This this is MASSIVELY heavy. I love it! I don't know if it has minimal weight relief, or none at all, but it's a solid feeling piece of machinery. If you prefer light guitars go with an SG or LP Studio. If you want a vintage feel, this fits the bill!

I received my guitar a couple of days ago. There are very good and very questionable elements.

First, this thing is a tone monster. It's incredible. Moreover it's imposingly beautiful. The fit and finish are impeccable, spotless as far as I can see. That's a good news.

The questionable issue is that the setup on this guitar is the worst I've ever seen. This is my second Les Paul. It's hard to believe it was set up at the factory. The low end of the bridge is up close to maximum and the low end of the bridge is all the way down (no threads visible). The tune-o-matic bridge looks like a ski ramp.  High on one in, very low on the other. I can't get this thing in tune no matter what I do.

Obviously, it's typical to have to set up a Guitar after you buy it. Setting the intonation will help the tuning issue-- I hope. But... To receive a fine instrument set up like this? I'm not sure if the thing is defective or if it just needs major set up work.

One final note. I contacted Gibson's support through email. The reply I got was that all instruments are set up to spec at the factory. Not acceptable. They didn't even answer my question.

I already love this guitar, despite its more difficult sides. But, I don't know if it's a keeper. Hopefully I won't get stuck with an expensive boat anchor.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro IV Electric Guitar:

Can't say enough great things about this guitar. Absolutely love it. Amazing sound and build quality. I haven't shown it to one person who wasn't blown away by it.

The 57 Classic pickups have an incredibly raw, growling sound. With all of the awesome features such as the 10db boost, single coil pickup selector and coil splitting, it's a no brainer. This guitar does it all.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro IV Electric Guitar:

I am 38. Ever since high school I have dreamed of owning a Gibson les Paul. I own many epiphone(all of which I love) but I always wanted a Gibson. With the higher cost I felt it was not a possibility. One day I decided that was it, I started saving and before I realized I had enough to buy this guitar. Before this I never in my life played a gibson. I was blown away by this guitar!! The tone is classic, the playability is incredible, I can play any style of music with this guitar!!!! Worth every penny!! Every time I see I am impressed with its looks. A TRUE DREAM COME TRUE!!!!!

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro IV Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar on a whim. Walked into guitar center to a buy humx ground lift debugger and seen this guitar. It has been hard to find a real Gibson Les Paul with the features of solid mahogany, 57's, grover locking tuners, and everything else to create a true 80's Les Paul. It is heavy but the tone comes from the wood, and the more wood the more tone. But this one has it all and at the price I paid for it I would do it all over again. What I didn't know at the time of purchase was the added electronics, the true push push coil splits (both pickups) humbuckers to single coil, push push 10db gain control, and here's the real cool thing, push push coil selector allowing which humbucker is ACTIVE in single coil selection. I have never been a fan of active pickups but the different combinations is endless and nice to have for achieving just about any sound. This guitar is definitely a keeper and would highly recommend to the ones who know the true sound of a real Les Paul!

Nice guitar, but not what was advertised

        By Supergome

        from SC

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro IV Electric Guitar:

This is a pretty nice guitar, and pretty expensive. I ordered this guitar in Iced Tea. The plain maple top is really pretty, and it plays well, sounds good, and came free of most of the common Gibson quality control issues.

However, the guitar I got was in a box labelled "Les Paul Traditional Pro III." The serial number card showed the model number of the guitar as a Les Paul Traditional Pro III. The back of the guitar is red, not natural as shown in the photos online. The neck of the guitar has a gloss finish, not the matte finish described in the text online.

I'd consider exchanging it for a new one, but I am pretty sure the new one will have the same issues, so I'll probably just return it.

I was looking into buying a les paul that I had wanted since I started playing guitar but could never afford. Finally saved up enough money for a studio when I saw this guitar for the killer price it's listed for and decided to take the plunge. I don't know what to say besides I fell in love with this guitar the moment I brought it home. The versatility in sounds this guitar can produce is unbelievable. The harmonic response is incredible. This guitar is the best guitar I believe you can buy for the money. Everything is just so easy to play on it and it feels so comfortable. Buy this guitar you will not regret it. The best deal on a real Gibson Les Paul you can get! Not to mention it looks like a piece of art I could hang on my wall just for decoration. It is beautiful. I can not recommend this guitar highly enough.

          Great Guitar!

          By Josh

          from Monkton Maryland

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro IV Electric Guitar:

I'm in a band that plays a wide variety of songs and was looking for one guitar that could do it all and I believe I have found it. The range of tones available to you with this guitar is amazing, you can split both humbuckers and select which coil is active when split, and you have a 10db boost. I tend to play with the volume and tone knobs to adjust my sound on the fly and having four more options is just a joy. The pickups sound PHENOMENAL I have a 61 reissue SG with a 57 classic in the bridge and can honestly say the super 57 blows it away in every category. Every moment I spent playing this guitar was pure sonic bliss! The description says the neck finish is matte but mine had a gloss finish which is a plus for me and it adds to the striking good looks of this guitar, the pictures DO NOT do it justice. The locking tuners work well and the guitar arrived in perfect tune (believe it or not ymmv) and it plays like a dream. I can't recommend this guitar enough, especially at the sale price. The only downside is it's really heavy and might be uncomfortable for smaller players.

            This one spoke to me

            By Kevin M

            from Naperville, IL

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro IV Electric Guitar:

I dropped by the Naperville, Il store and played a couple LP Studio Deluxe IV. They really did no speak to me. Then I tried a classic. It was pretty, but as best I could tell, sounded very much like the Studio. Then the very helpful Stephen brought me a Traditional IV. Within 30 seconds I was seduced. The neck fit my hand and was very comfortable. But the tone...oh the tone of those '57 classic pickups. So, sweet, clear and full sounding! I was done looking. I found the one that spoke to me.

As others have noted, the box and model number indicated a Traditional III. However, if you read the description, it is surely a Traditional IV. The III has a satin body side and back while the IV has a fully gloss body. The III has G Force electronic tuners with green plastic keys while the IV has locking Grover tuners with chrome keys. The color appears to be Ice Tea, not Honey Burst. Finally, my serial number starts with 17 which indicates it is a 2017 model year. All this, to me, adds up to a Traditional IV. I think Gibson just did not get the model designation coordinated with the model change over. Anyway it spoke to me and that is all I really care about. ;-)

OH. I forgot. My wife took me to GC to pick out a Father's Day present...mission accomplished!

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro IV Electric Guitar:

I bought my Les Paul Traditional Pro new from Guitar Center (they are good people). It was in its Gibson case in my air conditioned house for about year undisturbed (I have MANY guitars). I opened the case to show the guitar to a friend and 2 of the 4 knobs were cracked in half. No problem I thought because of the Gibson lifetime warranty card that came with my guitar. When I requested warranty coverage, I was told that knobs are not covered. I believe that Gibson's quality is not as good as it was. I had a 2006 Gibson Les Paul Studio for 10 years that was played a lot and the knobs on it never cracked in half.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro IV Electric Guitar:

Literally love every component built into this model. Gibson packed a LOT of options into this one...which is amazing for this price point, imo. You'll love the pickups, easy playability (I prefer the slimmer neck it provides) and locking tuners (it rarely goes out of tune).

Construction, intonation, neck (straight as an arrow) and cosmetics....all good.

              Great Guitar

              By None

              from Miami, Fl.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro IV Electric Guitar:

My first Les Paul and new guitar purchase in over 20 years. This guitar really rocks! All of the traditional Les Paul sounds are there, plus some tele sounds with the coil split activated. Combine usable coil splits with boost availability and the guitar is very versatile. As some others have noted on the internet, this Trad Pro iv came in a Trad iii box and the serial number is consistent with a 60s slim Trad Pro iii. I'm not knowledgeable enough to confirm this is a 60s slim neck as opposed to the listed " vintage C" , whatever that is, but I think the one I bought is a 60s slim. And I'm no expert in pickups, period. So I guess resale value could be a concern. You can checkout the positive reviews elsewhere on the internet. The only negative remarks on I have noticed on the internet are regarding the iii-iv issues. If you can buy it on sale it's a great value too. I love this guitar!

I have a LP Premium Plus but this baby is even heavier, The sound combinations are the to be explored. I haven't put it down since coming home from USA. Love this guitar and the playability suits me with the neck and gloss finish.
Beautiful clear tones, then down to the well known LP sustain and growl when pushed. Can't fault it and I think this will be with me until the end of my days. Thanks GC for all your help and no pressure sales environment.
                A Happy Chappy.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro IV Electric Guitar:

I picked this Les Paul up on sale about 4 months ago. It's a great guitar, with great-sounding pickups, smooth-playing neck, and a beautiful "plain top" that was $500 less expensive than the exact same guitar with a flame maple top. It's nice and heavy, too! I forget the exact weight, but it's somewhere in the 9.5-10.5 pound range. I was a semi-pro bass player in a past life, so I find the feel of a weighty instrument reassuring and comfortable. The current Les Paul Standards don't appeal to me...they feel flimsy. I play this guitar a couple of hours a day and I just love it! My only complaint is that the guitar came out of the box from Gibson with a minor finish defect that should have never made its way past Quality Control. There's a bit of a deformation in the lacquer finish on binding on the top side of the neck. Since it's on the top of the neck, I can't feel it a bit while I'm playing, but it's visually obvious, and if I run my hand across the top of the neck it can be easily felt. It's probably an easy fix, and the rest of the guitar is so perfect I didn't want to risk exchanging it for another one.

I purchased the ice tea colored one and I am reallyhappy with everything except I need to take it to get it set up. Lower frets are good but the higher ones don' t.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro IV Electric Guitar:

The day I bought this guitar i tried several other Les Paul models.. Then I tried the Traditional IV. Wow! I knew this was the one in less than a minute. The neck was just right and the tone was exactly what I was looking for. The 57 classic/super 57 combo had just the sparkle I was looking for. Finally, the finish is perfect. I could not find a flaw. It is a beautiful guitar.

Some others have commented on the box markings indicating Traditional Pro III. My box actually had both markings. The Traditional pro IV marking was a Guitar Center sticker with the serial number and "Traditional Pro IV" as the model. In addition, the receipt from GC indicated it is a Trad Pro IV. The box sticker from the factory indicated Trad Pro 3 and Honey Burst. Clearly mine is not a honey burst. It is an Iced Tea burst. The Traditional Pro line is made for the big guitar retailers and I have to assume there is some lag in the factory labeling during the model switch over. Anyhow, I he absolutely no doubt this is a Tradtional Pro IV.
