Taking design and visual cues from the Les Pauls of the '80s and '90s, the Les Paul Traditional Pro II features powerful pickups with push/push for coil splits and boost circuit, '50s neck profile, Grover locking tuners, antique binding, period-correct pickguard, vintage Gibson top hat knobs, and the revolutionary Plek set up.

With all the fat, sweet, snarling Les Paul tone that purists love, the new Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Pro II sports a mahogany body with a thick maple cap for the perfect blend of warmth and clarity. The top is finished in high-gloss lacquer, while the back, sides, and neck have a smooth satin finish that feels great and lets the wood resonate fully. Each Les Paul Traditional also comes with Gibson USA's standard black snakeskin case.

Period-Correct Pickguard
The creme-colored pickguard has been a Les Paul staple dating back to the models of the late 1950s and the early 1960s. Many players, however, removed the pickguard from their Les Pauls to show off the beauty of the flame maple tops, prompting Gibson to stop installing the pickguard altogether. During the 1980s and 1990s, Gibson began reinstalling the pickguard in the factory, and the Les Pauls from this era once again arrived in stores bearing the classic, creme-colored pickguard. The Les Paul Traditional comes equipped with a period-correct pickguard, designed to protect the maple top.

Pickups: Neck - '57 Classic; Bridge - Super '57
Among the qualities that make Gibson's original "Patent Applied For" humbucking pickups so unique are the subtle variations between coil windings. For the first few years of their productions—1955 to 1961—Gibson's PAF humbuckers were wound using imprecise machines, resulting in pickups with slightly different output and tone. The '57 Classic and Super '57 pickups are the result of Gibson's drive to capture and recreate this characteristic. Introduced in 1992, the '57 Classic at the neck provides warm, full tone with a balanced response, packing that classic Gibson PAF humbucker crunch, inspired by those original PAFs that received a few extra turns of wire. The Super '57 bridge pickup debuts in the Trad Pro with a wider frequency response and increased output.

Both are made by Gibson to the exact same specs as the original PAFs, including Alnico II magnets, nickel-plated pole pieces, nickel slugs, maple spacers, and vintage-style, 2-conductor braided wiring. Gibson added poly-coated wiring, which improves consistency by eliminating thick or thin spots on the wiring, and wax potting, which removes all internal air space and any chance of microphonic feedback.

Both pickups offer coil splitting for single-coil sounds and a boost circuit via push/push switching in the volume controls. “Straight Split” coil-splitting offers pure single coil tone and differs from LP Standards and Studios that have a “Super Tap” coil-tap, which still has a small amount of humbucking. The boost circuit has a user-adjustable 10-dB boost for added power and frequency range for solos, single-note picking and dirty chording (depending on amp settings) and features true bypass that disengages the boost completely, ensuring pure passive Les Paul tone.

Revolutionary Plek Set Up
The Les Paul Traditional is the first model from Gibson USA to utilize the revolutionary Plek machine in setting up the guitar. The Plek is a German-made, computer-controlled machine that carefully measures each fret, along with the fingerboard height under each string, and then automatically dresses each fret, virtually eliminating string buzz and greatly improving the overall playability of the guitar. This pioneering process does in minutes what it takes a luthier several hours—sometimes even days—to accomplish. Every fret is accurately aligned, and the guitar is properly intonated, leaving the instrument "Plek'd" and amazingly playable.

Antique Binding
To see the process of putting the binding on the Les Paul Traditional is to really appreciate the effort and attention that Gibson puts into each instrument. A lone craftsman will carefully glue and fit 2 pieces of binding around the entire body of a Les Paul. He then winds a single, very long piece of narrow cloth around the entire body until the entire surface is nearly covered. The body is then hung to dry for a full 24 hours before it is unwrapped and moved into the next phase of production. It has been done the same way for over 100 years. Some question the value of adding binding, but Gibson believes it is a fundamental part of our rich guitar-making history. The binding adds elegance to the Les Paul Standard, and helps protect the edges of the body. The neck binding is installed over the fret ends, which eliminates sharp fret edges and provides for a smooth neck and easier playability.

I sold my 1995 LP Standard 2 years ago to give my daughter much needed braces. She, and my wonderful wife rewarded me with this truly remarkable guitar as an early Christmas present. I can truly say that if I were to be able to check the order form boxes to "build" this guitar from Gibson USA, this is what I would choose. This is my third Gibson Les Paul, a 1978 Custom Silver burst, the second the 1995 Standard, and this is way more guitar than I could imagine you could buy in stock configuration with NO MODS REQUIRED! I play this beauty through a 1983 JCM 800 2204 half stack all original and the tone is just unreal. Imagine Paul Kossoff, Montrose, Page, etc. Yes, it's the REAL DEAL. Thank you Guitar Center and Gibson for the special deal that made it possible to own the dream. Intonation is dead nuts on, pots are clean and smooth as silk. Grover Locking Tuners are what should be on every new guitar, 57 pickups are not too hot, but break up nicely with a master volume amp, just don't expect fried distortion, just clean rock crunch. No pedal required with the 10db pre-amp on the neck tone pot. I even dialed it back to 40% just to give it some punch when needed. This is a complete package that gives tonal variation with the push push pots for coil tapping, and along with the pre-amp you do not loose any volume in the coil tapped mode. the dirtier the sound, the less you notice the coil split, so it really shines when cleaned up. Last but not least is this "to die for" flame maple matched cap that makes it hard to look away from. I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase, and will be for a long time.

By far the sexiest guitar I own. The merlot is just gorgeous. I recommend changing the strings out of the box. After about a week the top two strings were buzzing passed the six fret which aggravated me, and is why this guitar didn't get 5 stars. Weight is well distributed, coils sound okay, easy soloing guitar because the action is so incredibly low. Not sure if it's worth the 1900, but Gibson doesn't disappoint.

When the Gibson Tradition Pro II debuted in 2012, I was blown away by the GC/Gibson video demo. I HAD to have one. Every time I would go into my local GC, I would pull one off the wall and plug it into my home set-up (Orange Dark Terror/Orange PPC212) and proceed to take a trip to tonal heaven. This particular guitar was up on the wall for about a year or so. Well, GC finally increased my line of credit for being a good boy and paying my bill on time, put the Trad Pro II's on sale, AND offered 18 month no interest financing. Needless to say, I checked online to see if they had the guitar I wanted in stock (which it showed they did), then I took a trip to my local GC today. Unfortunately the guitar I had my eye on for the past year was no longer there. In fact, I didn't see any Heritage Cherry Trad Pro II's with a 50's neck. I even had a GC associate check their stock to see if I just missed it. Nope, none in stock, he said. As I was leaving the store another associate asked if I needed any help. I told him what I came there for and he couldn't believe that online would show the guitar in stock, but their in-store system would not. He doubled checked, and wouldn't ya know, they had TWO in the back! He brought them both out for me check out. One was nice looking with an "A" flame/checkered top, and the other was a GORGEOUS AAA flamed top with nice mineral streaking. Of course I picked up the beauty to see how it sounded acoustically andI was blown away. The not as gorgeous one didn't sound as nice to me, acoustically. So I took them both and plugged them in to the same rig I have at home (Orange Dark Terror/Orange PPC212 Cab). The one that sounded great acoustically, sounded even better. About 10 people poked there heads into the Platinum Room where I was playing, just to see WHAT I was playing. Everyone was amazed to see that I was not using any effects, just guitar straight into amp. People commented on how amazing the sound was and many said "Wow! Now that's what a Les Paul is supposed to sound like!" and I couldn't agree with them more. I was getting tones of Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, to Joe Walsh, Sleep and The Sword. Just to make sure my ears didn't deceive me, I plugged in the other Trad Pro II that didn't sound as good acoustically. My ears did not deceive me. The other guitar was just flat sounding. This is why I always try several different guitars of the same model. Needless to say, after some haggling, I walked out of GC today with a brand spanking new Gibson LP TRAD PRO II with a GORGEOUS AAA flame top at a pretty fair price. Do yourself a favor and go check one of these out. I think my 2009 Gibson LP TRAD + just got some competition.

I picked up one of these beauties at my local GC. I was very impressed from the get-go. no weight relief or chambering? Great! Fit/finish quality is flawless. The pickup combo is very complimentary to each other. I like the push-push pots for the coil tapping and boost. I didi dial the boost back a little, probably about 7 or so, as the full bore was a little much for my taste. This is my first guitar with active pickups, so it is an experiment for me. If you get a chance, try one out. You won't be disappointed.

This isn't one of those guitars that stay in the case or behind a glass case. It's definitely a player and sounds fantastic. Owning several LPs from the 80's and 90's, I've always had a preference for the non-chambered, non-weight relieved guitars...just a personal preference, I prefer the heavier guitars because of the warm sounds they generate. The LP Traditional Pro II is definitely along those lines. Got the Goldtop as the color really stands out (although the Merlot Gold also looks nice when you see it in person). The pickups are a lot brighter than I expected, giving it a nice roar. The coil-splitting doesn't quite sound like a strat (but then again, why would you want that?), it's closer to something in between a strat and gibson humbucker sound. The boost was not as strong as I expected but perhaps it comes across when you crank up the volume. All-in-all, if you are looking for a gigging guitar that feels solid, has great sustain and nice bite - this is definitely one for you. plus the price can't be beat. A Les Paul for under 2K is definitely great bang for your buck. Plus the goldtop turns heads.

Recently purchased the Traditional Pro II Gold Top! This guitar sounds incredible... The extra wight helps carry that tone through for sure if you're debating but it does require you do maybe do some back or ab exercises to help hold it up! Pickups sound as Les Paul as you're ever going to get, then each can split and you get a really nice bluesy single coil. Played it through an Orange amp and of course a Marshall AND it even sounds good through a sans amp if you're going direct! An absolutely solid instrument. Top notch build. A dream guitar. This is my first and last Les Paul I will have to own :-D

Terrible Guitar

I owned this guitar. It came with red paint dots under the honey undercoat, clearly a factory mistake that made it pass quality control. Never should have left the factory. First thing I noticed when I got it was the cheaper quality cases they have switched to in the past couple of years. This was the first guitar I ever owned that wouldn`t stay in tune. I usually play strats, so that says alot. Long story short, not ever worth half the price. Not sure what happened to this company, but I would never buy another one of their products.

Great guitar, sort of

I got the HCSB, Pros: fantastic top, great sounding pickups (not overly bright as the BB3s), great action, fit and finish great. Cons: the electronics stink, the controls with the doo-dads feel cheap. Hardly any resistance when turning. The one pot without anything on it has a firm feel. Don't expect a Strat sound out of the single coil sound, as well as you shouldn't, they sound ok but typically noisy even when both are selected. The 10db boost darkens the sound abit. It is adjustable, but even backed down, it still darkens. The controls were noisy even after a cleaning with pot cleaner. I ordered a complete set of new Gibson electronics and switch everything over to a "normal" setup. Now she sings like crazy. Depends on personal choice for a Pro or Con. The body is weight relieved like the Standard. I was mis-lead that it was solid like the real traditional. I relied on the salesman's knowledge and after contacting Gibson, was told that "indeed it is of the traditional swiss cheese weight relief" and not solid like the real Traditionals. This model should be called a "Standard Pro II. Overall, this is a very good guitar, with a lil help a great guitar.

This is a monster, I may be a little biased because i have loved les pauls since I knew what a guitar was. When I started actually playing gigs steady weekend after weekend I knew I needed a quality front line guitar, so I bought this GOLD TOP. I love the way it feels, great action out of the box, sounds are sharp and smooth. The push pull coil tap is also very very useful in creating your tone. you can play anything with this one guitar. this guitar has taken 2 serious falls and still plays great. first one was off a 3 foot stage after the guitar stand was bumped by my pesky rear end. Played the entire night IN TUNE. got home I noticed minor dings and had to end up replacing one bridge mount...BC i bought GIBSON it was covered and they mailed me the piece for free! great service. 2nd wasnt really a fall, somthing fell on it. my "vocal booth" took a spill on the open case and dinging the headstock...still plays great... I have got my moneys worth in this guitar already!
