Since 1983, Gibson USA has been proving not only that less is sometimes more, but also that less can sometimes knock your socks off. Originally designed as a model for studio artists but adopted wholeheartedly by countless players of all stripes, the Les Paul Studio combines stripped-down appointments with the full tonal splendor and unrivaled playability of a Les Paul Standard. This version is a little different from a regular Studio model because it has a flame maple top, vintage gloss finish, maple neck and '57 Classic pickups.

All the elements of the legendary Les Paul Standard are still there, including that fat and sweet maple-and-mahogany tone through two genuine Gibson humbucking pickups. By eliminating a little of the window dressing “ namely, building the guitar without binding around the body top or fingerboard, and applying an elegant gold silkscreened logo in place of an inlay “ the Les Paul Studio weighs in at a price that players have found irresistible for three decades. It also physically weighs less. The mahogany body comes with œmodern weight relieving that is carefully applied inside the mahogany back to provide outstanding balance while optimizing the sonic capabilities of the guitar.

Crucial elements of the Les Paul Studio' design include the flame maple top and mahogany body, glued-in maple neck with back-angled headstock, granadillo fingerboard, Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece “ all design points that have been making Les Pauls the most desirable tone monsters available since the late 1950s. For electronics, a set of Gibson' '57 humbucking pickups squeeze every drop of tone from the instrument, and now feature coil-taps for an even broader range of tonal possibilities.

With these classic ingredients, the Les Paul Studio gives you all the sonic versatility you could ask for, from sultry, warm bluesy tones to powerful crunch to sizzling lead tones. Finally, the Les Paul Studio is supremely playable too, thanks to its slim-taper 60's neck profile and a chambered mahogany body that reduces the weight while enhancing resonance, making it outstandingly comfortable strapped on or seated.

  • Mahogany body with œmodern weight-relieving and flame maple top
  • Vintage gloss finish
  • 24.75" scale mapleneck shaped to a ˜60s Slim Taper profile
  • Granadillo fingerboard dressed with trapezoid inlays
  • Tune-o-matic bridge and stop-tail
  • '57 Classic pickups with coil-splitting
  • Individual volume and tone controls, 3-way pickup selector
  • Grover vintage-style tuning machines

Gibson Flametop Studio (Carmel Burst)

By Angela Breitkreutz

from Chesapeake Virginia

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Studio VG Flame Top Electric Guitar:

Let me start off by just saying first look isn't everything. The Gibson Les Paul Studio in general is meant for exactly what its name implies. a studio. The Sound is the main focus, to get that crisp perfection for recording. not necessarily the looks. This guitar definitely meets that mark. I play it on a hughes and kettner tubemeister 18, and the clean sound on this combination is mind blowing. For distortion I use a Ibanez tubescreamer (phenomenal classic tube overdrive). the coil tapping gives anything from Stevie Ray Vaughn, to the humbucking sounds of Joe Satriani, all with one push (or pull) of a button (being the volume knob). But not to forget about looks aren't everything, the only reason the looks aren't everything is because the sound of this instrument is so professional, it could be the ugliest thing in the world and I'd still choose this over anything. for $1,000 this is a complete steal. it is worth the investment because this guitar will last forever, and the wood will only resonate better over time. It looks like a dream, it sounds like heaven, it plays like warm butter, the action on mine came out of the box perfect, and no rattling whatsoever, its very versatile, it will play any genre you could imagine (no need to switch these fantastic pickups), and it will knock your socks off.

Very happy

By Chris Cline

from Milwaukee, WI

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Studio VG Flame Top Electric Guitar:

I recently purchased the vintage sunburst model. This guitar is brighter than the junior special with humbuckers I have. But I bought the guitar hoping it would sound different (why have two of the same guitars?) and I am very happy with it. I don't know if it's the maple top and maple neck which the slab bodied junior special doesn't have, or the 57 Classic pickups, or a combination of the two. But it's brighter. The coil taps sound good on a clean setting but I've found no use for them with distortion - they just sound weak. One thing not mentioned anywhere on this site or the interweb is that the guitar is equipped with the quick connect system. I wasn't happy when I opened up the back and saw that. It really limits the mods that can be made. I'm still debating whether to rewire the whole thing with standard wiring. But I like the 57 Classics so I'll keep it for now. To me the pickups really have a loose and airy sound which I like for the type of music I play. I was impressed with the quality of the guitar. I've read reviews of LPs having sharp frets, scratches, or nicks upon arrival. Everything on mine was perfect. The vintage gloss finish seems very durable. I was almost tempted to scratch the finish with a screwdriver just to see if it scratches - but I didn't - the finish seems that hard. Overall I'm glad I bought this guitar.

Beautiful Tone Beautiful Looks

By Carlos Cortesi

from Miami Florida

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Studio VG Flame Top Electric Guitar:

This instrument will blow your mind. Not only is it delicious eye popping candy but it plays like goddess. I personally liked it more than the Les Paul Standard because of the unpainted neck gloss which makes the neck profile thinner and easy to play. I run it through a BlackstarHT20 and the distortion channel will is definite face melter. The single and double coil mechanism will make you cry in the clean channel due to their sheer acoustic sound beauty. These guitar packs a punch no doubt about it! Feels amazing, smells great, looks incredible and they are probably the best value for $1,000 you can find. STOP READING AND GO TRY ONE AT THE STORE!

Awesome Guitar!

By Johnie West

from Fort Worth, Texas

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Studio VG Flame Top Electric Guitar:

I bought the caramel burst version. It is a beautiful guitar with a nice, natural looking finish. I haven't found any flaws in the workmanship. I am only a beginner player, but I have several guitars in my collection. This is the one I take on the road with me to practice with. I don't really have a need for the split coils right now, but I may like them or at least know how to use them when I get better at playing. It feels amazing. Not as heavy as a Standard or a Custom, but heavy enough to know you have a quality instrument. I've seen some come with a hard shell case and others come with a bag. This one comes with a bag. I had a hard case left from a previous Studio and just swapped them out. I can't really describe tones and sustain because like I said, I'm just a beginner. Thanks a ton to Brent Wall at my local Guitar Center in Fort Worth, Texas for all the help. Hopefully I'll be picking away soon.
