Before you buy another guitar TRY the Traditional

By Cathy Goldberg

from New Jersey

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Plus Electric Guitar:

Being a Gilmour fanatic I always owned Fenders. Then I borrowed a tricked out Studio and fell in love with Gibsons. Needing one of my own, I labored over choosing between the 2008 Traditional and the Custom. The Traditional has immaculate craftsmanship and the unchambered weight is reminiscent of the 80s Les Paul. The rosewood neck tone is amazing and the sustain is remarkable. Through a Marshall half stack, this guitar sounds like dark melted chocolate that actually stunned the band when we first heard it. As a practical plus, it provides diversity from the Custom sound which imho is brighter by comparison. I couldn't be happier with this guitar. By the way, I haven't tuned it in a week and its still spot on.

GREAT GUITAR/GIBSON RIP OFF

By WICKTANA

from Taylor, Michigan

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Plus Electric Guitar:

My review title may cause many to wonder why I would word it in that manner. The following review I submit, will be one of honesty, being fair, yet, tell it like it is. First of all, I can't say enough about how much I like this guitar. This is my third Gibson Les Paul, the other two are the Classic, and the Double Cut-Away. What I like about this Traditional Plus, are the pickups what Gibson has placed in the guitar. This guitar was played over my Fender 65 reissue Twin Reverb, which is a clean amp. Even so, the Les Paul still wanted to crunch had I have allowed it to. Then I plugged it into my Marshall JVM410H with cab, as you know this is the newest amp head put out by Marshall and is considered their Flaggship. The JVM410H will give you clean, crunch, reverb, OD1, and OD2. Each setting has three types of sounds, that go from mild to wild. When playing on the mild crunch, gain down, the guitar was kicking butt. From there, I placed it on each settings ending up on OD2, with the most dirty sound of all, and the gain turned way up. This guitar would hold out a note as long as I had my finger on the string. The humbuckers are some of the best I have ever heard in my 45 years of playing. The paint job is a work of art, with the maple top proudly displaying it's craftsmanship. The color I picked was honeyburst, but the icetea also looked good. All in all, I was happy with the quality, looks, and sound of the guitar. NOW TO THE GIBSON RIP OFF Four years ago, The Gibson Les Paul Classic cost between $1,800.00 and $1,900.00 hundred dollars. The guitar came with locking tunners, a set of strap locks, and a guitar case that had a silk cover that went on top of the guitar once layed in the case. This guitar was $400.00 dollars more, no locking tunners, strap locks, a guitar case that is inferior to the one I received last time. If you put locking tunners on it, this will void the warranty. Gibson has raised their price beyond what the dollar ammount should be, then gives you less than what you should get for the money. Just about every guitar company who sell a high dollar product, include these things I mentioned. This is why I gave it 4 stars, any guitar that cost $2,300.00 dollars should include these extras. The Gibson hardshell case is a little more than a generic model. In conclusion, this is a great guitar, and has better reviews than the model above it that sells for $2,600.00 or more. This mahagany body is not chambered, where as the higher priced Standard is.

A Classic "Traditional" !!!

By Roadrider4

from NJ

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Plus Electric Guitar:

I just got one this month, and aside of its beautiful traditional looks (a classic Les Paul Standart), It plays incredible ! Very well done ,and from my many years of experience, it feels like a real instrument, great resonance that you can feel when it's played with out amplification ! The playability is incredible , you can bent your strings two steps a la Howling Wolf with out choking the notes . Also , for my personal preference , I do love the warm smooth classic sound of the 57 classic Humbucker. If you are looking for a Traditional Les Paul Standart......... this is the one !!!

An iconic classic

By BEP

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Plus Electric Guitar:

Perfection sums up my opinion on this guitar. I've always wanted to own a Gibson LP and I'm glad I chose this one. I tried and almost bought the Vintage Mahogany LP, but this one was just in a class by itself. All the touches are perfect and I can't put it down. Tone and action are superb; by far the best electric guitar I've owned.

Excellent Les Paul

By maximus

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Plus Electric Guitar:

I own a Les Paul Standard and enjoy the tone and sustain of that guitar, but I heard the Traditional was fuller and richer sounding. So, I went to guitar center and listened for myself. I ended up with a Iced Tea Traditional. I am very pleased with the tone, fit/finish, action and best of all sustain of the Traditional. I highly recommend this guitar.

Another les paul

By Damian Blakeley

from Portland Oregon

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Plus Electric Guitar:

There are many reviews on this les paul model; as such, mine is just one more. Almost everyone agrees that this is fantastic les paul. Well, I saw it on the wall at guitar center, played other in stock les pauls first, then played the traditional plus in desert burst finish through an egnator renegade amp in an isolation room. Within one minute I decided to buy both the guitar and amp. There are many gibson les pauls out there; different models, different specs, etc, and all play and sound unique. I have played over 200 les pauls in my years, and have owned around 30. When one chooses a gibson les paul to own it is a very personal decision. The traditional plus I purchased is more than outstanding in all aspects. It looks museum quality. The tone is pure vintage. The weight is perfect. The 57 pickups are dreamy, creamy, and are incredibly angelic when played 'clean' without being 'bottom heavy' in tone like many les pauls can be, and yet, when driven to extremes through quality tube amps, it sings and screams with authority equaled only by old vintage les pauls. The cost of many 'reissue' pauls are frightening, as are the prices of used vintage pauls; and I find that the cost of many current Gibson les pauls to be a bit unreasonable as well. As such, as a connoisseur of les pauls I hereby say that these Traditional Plus Gibson Les Pauls are not only incredible guitars, but are actually truely worth the asking and selling price. In a world of many gibson les pauls to choose from, these are the ones which are EQUAL to the vintage les pauls, and in time will become the sought after REAL LES PAULS in the future. Of course, one can NEVER own enough gibson les pauls, but if you need ONE real les paul, this is the real deal, and my goodness, the asking price is more than realistic. I have one, I want twelve. And I will settle for three. And I am VERY fussy about my Gibson Les Pauls. Why pay ten grand or more for a new VOS les paul or more for a battered vintage used one when you can 'steal' one from Gibson for $2300.00 or less? Get one and be happy forever...

The Traditional Is The Standard

By Timmy M

from Baltimore, MD

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Plus Electric Guitar:

I bought a 2008 Les Paul Standard a few months ago. It was a very nice guitar, but it just wasn't the Les Paul I was used to. I tried out the Traditional a few weeks ago, and fell in love. I ended up buying one. The Traditional is the Les Paul Standard that we all know and love. No chambering, no locking tuners, no asymmetrical neck...just 100% pure Les Paul. Plug one of these into a Marshall amp, and you will get goosebumps! Before you buy the new Standard, take a look at the Traditional. I recommend this guitar to anyone looking for that vintage Les Paul feel.

A Real Les Paul is Like No Other!!

By His Dudeness

from Detroit, Mich

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Plus Electric Guitar:

I've used a lot of different guitars over the years, and have played some killer Pauls, but I just bought an Ice Tea Burst, and I'm not even into flamed maple tops, but this one is incredible! For those who don't know, the real Pauls weren't chambered - that's why I don't get why they call today's Les Paul Standard a "Standard." The Traditional is basically the "Standard" of the old days. This guitar sings and sustains forever! The Plek-ing seems to be a nifty thing to me. Even putting some 11-50s on here, it had super-low action and excellent tone. The fat neck is where it's at - the tone is unreal. Pick one up and be prepared to drool!

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Plus Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar two weeks ago and have been playing her everyday what can I say,I've been playing for over 30 years and had many guitars I always wanted to buy a Gibson LP but for some stupid dumb reason never did now that I had a stroke back in Nov. and found out I have a bad heart I said to myself and my beautiful wife I want a Les Paul before I die so I bought one and now having one and playing her I should have bought one years ago best money I ever spent on a guitar. She plays and sounds GREAT.This is a guitar you can own a life time and pass on to your kids it will always be a timeless classic. For those thinking of buying any Gibson LP don't be like me and keep putting it off till you might not have enough time to really enjoy it.You only live once so just DO IT you won't be sorry.I give this guitar a 5 star x 2

Epic guitar

By Riley Donahue

from Davis, CA

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Plus Electric Guitar:

I played this guitar at the store, and if i had the money, id buy it in an instant. It has really great hot pickups, and has a really heavy, chunky tone, really great for classic rock, and music in that sort of style. But also gets great soft tones. amazing all-around guitar.
