Overview

Crank up a 2008 Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar and experience the power and performance that more than 40 years of craftsmanship and innovation can produce.

Pioneered and developed with the assistance of pioneering jazz-pop guitarist Les Paul”one of the world's greatest musical and technological pioneers”the Gibson Les Paul has become the standard by which all electric guitars are judged. With fat, rich tone and incredible sustain, the Les Paul lends itself to every style and generation of music. From the sweetest jazz to the heaviest rock and metal, the Les Paul can do it all”it is one of the most powerful and versatile instruments of all time.

The Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus continues to alter”and inspire”the sounds of today's ever-changing musical landscapes. It features a hand-carved figured maple top with matched chambered mahogany back outlined with single-ply binding. A major difference with the Les Paul Traditional is the Pro is made with chambered body. The chambered mahogany back serves to minimize weight, while also adding tonal nuances to the Gibson guitar's overall sound.

The neck is crafted from a single piece of mahogany. Carefully glued into the neck cavity of the body, the neck functions as a single unit with the body. Its asymmetrical shape is the most comfortable neck offered on a Gibson Les Paul Standard.

The BurstBucker Pro humbuckers have Alnico V magnets with slightly mismatched windings to deliver an enhanced "Patent Applied For" tone with more bite and brilliance.

All Les Paul Standard necks receive precision fret dressing and setup with the Plek system. As the guitar lies in a cradle, a computer-controlled robot arm moves along the neck measuring each fret's height, the fingerboard radius, even the bow in the neck. Using that data, the Plek machine adjusts the truss rod, cuts the nut slots for optimal spacing and height for each string, files each fret to a hundredth of a millimeter accuracy, and then polishes the frets. In a fraction of the time it takes a skilled technician, the Plek machine eliminates buzzing strings and dead spots, producing a neck with flawless intonation and superb action.

NOTE: Solid finish models come with the pickguard attached. To give you a choice of how your Gibson Les Standard Plus with sunburst should look, the pickguard is not attached but included in the case. To install the pickguard, holes will need to be drilled into the body.

The first thing I gotta say about this guitar is that it is worth every penny!!! There's no need to buy any other thing for this guitar except a maintenance kit!!! Everything that comes with it is grade A+++ The burstbucker pro pickups that come factory installed are the perfect match for this guitar. They have incredible sustain and aggressive leads but also have jaw-dropping warm crunchy full tone. It has a super fast rounded neck that's great for soloing or playing rhythm on. Mine weighs in at about 8 pounds so its easy on the player and incredible in quality. I got mine in a desert burst finish and it is beautifully flawless!!! 5 out of 5 stars without a doubt! Highly recommend this guitar for someone who's looking for that one special guitar. Gibson you've done it again!!!

The LP model I purchased does not stay in tune, has a sticky neck due to a nitro finish fault often discussed in various forums in the internet and did not come with the finish I paid extra money for. ( figured maple top). I was divided between a Traditional Plus and the Standard and regret not to have picked the Traditional with an exceptional finish I tested in the Store

Fantastic guitar!

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar:

When I first played it, it felt way more comfortable than the other Les Pauls I had played. I think the asymmetrical neck really increases its playability. It has a great tone; I love the way the BurstBucker Pro pickups sound and the feedback you can get. I'm used to using Strats, but this Les Paul got me hooked!

WOW!!!!

By Guitar Player

from Calabasas

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar:

I purchased this guitar after years of waiting and saving. Let me start off by saying that if you are torn between this guitar and, o say a custom or traditional, pick this. This guitar is a phenomenal guitar with a one of a kind sound. The chambers do not take away from the sustain of tone so there is no need to fear that. I use this guitar as my main guitar for blues, led zeppelin style, and even early metal like Iron Maiden and it is perfect for all of them. I got the Iced Tea finish even though I would have preferred the cherry sunburst. It did take me a few days to love this finish but now, im glad I got it in Iced Tea. It is more unique and looks beautiful. This guitar is not cheap but if you can afford it, buy it you wont regret it.

Outstanding job redifining a legend!

By Mark

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar:

I have owned my Iced Tea finish 2008 LP Standard Plus for a week and just can't leave it alone. In fact, it inspired my daughter to play and I have to fight her to play on it. I have owned a Gibson LP Custom for over 20 years and love it, but this LP standard is off the hook! I test drove one 6 months ago & really liked all of the refinements - weight from the chambered body, locking tuners, locking jack, etc. The more I play it, the more I enjoy the feel & playability of the asymetrical neck. The lighter weight (compared to the LP Custom) also adds to a great overal feel. Buy it and rock on!

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar:

awesome! I wont bore you with all the details about the guitar. you can read that on the left hand column of this page. I will tell you that if you are serious about getting a solid les paul sound with the sustain of el diablo then this axe is for you. save your cash and invest in a playing work of art. P.S. people will tell you that gibsons are overpriced, and we all agree but we all know you get what you pay for and this guitar is the real deal. ROCK ON!

Incredible

By Ben

from Dublin,CA

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar:

When the time came to purchase a new guitar, I looked at a nice used Les Paul, but when I brought it home and played it side by to my Flying V, The Flying V outplayed it, I then went back to GC and picked up the Les Paul Standard Plus in Heritage Cherry Sunburst, This guitar is a piece of art and looks stunning,, It's sound is so warm and lucious, but when in treble mode it sounds thin and sharp. I love both tones and the Plekked neck is so perfect plus it's asymetrical. This guitar feels like a custom shop guitar but for much less in price, it's still expensive but it is completely worth it.

You will never get rid of this one

By Steely McNeill

from Chester, MD

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar:

I have been playing guitar for 40 years. In 40 years I owned several Les Paul's. For one reason or another, they did not do "it" for me, so they got sold or traded off in my quest for my signature sound. I purchased a Les Paul ROBOT last year. The feel and ease of playing that axe got me hooked on the new Gibson quality. Problem with the ROBOT is the transducer bridge looks so delicate, I would not take it any where other than the studio. My new Standard has everything the ROBOT has except the "Auto Tune". It is prettier, sounds as good if not better and will stand up to a 4 hour gig with out breaking down or breaking your shoulder. The locking 1/4" input jack is a blessing. It stays in tune all night. The chambered body (to me) sounds better, and the weight loss makes a huge difference to the working musician. I love this axe. It will be my primary work guitar. I would not thing of trading it off to get something better. What could be better?

Very Nice Guitar

By Mark

from Olmsted Falls, Ohio

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar:

I purchased the Ice Tea version. The finish on the maple top is very nice. The tone is very good and well balanced. The asymmetrical neck on the new Standard does takes some getting used to. I have a Les Paul Studio with the 50s neck and I've become very used to the soft curve of the rounded neck. I did have a hard time chosing between a Les Paul Traditional and the Standard. I think the looks of the Les Paul Standard won me over.

Best of ALL

By Maxinator

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar:

I purchased a Les Paul Standard 2008 Desert Burst finish about a month ago and I find it hard to put down. I have an SG standard as well, but find the Les Paul has deeper tones and great sustain. I love this guitar. I plan on getting the pick guard installed so that I do not ruin the finish. Bottom line, I highly recommend this guitar to players of all genres, although I believe it may be ideal for rock and jazz.

Awesome

By Jim

from Fort Collins, CO

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar:

Just picked mine up today from GC in Fort Collins. I was looking for something with a more comfortable neck. The neck on this is perfect, I have large hands and was getting cramps in my thumb and a sore wrist. This solved it. Also, a beautiful guitar that about plays itself. My other guitar would buzz a lot, I have to really try to make a string buzz on this guitar. Granted my old guitar was a low end Epiphone. I love this guitar and looking forward to many years of using it.

AWESOME Axe

By Bill Stanley

from Warner Robins, GA

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar:

Just got it yesterday, pull it out of the box and inspected it. Plugged it straight into my Peavey Valve King 100 watt with 4X12 ca and went to jammin. I can see any tweeking (except for tuning) that needed to be done. This thing is AWESOME and beautiful. Then I plugged it into my Marshal AVT150 and it BLEW me away even with no effects....can't go wrong buying this axe. Couldn't really tell any difference with the asemetrical neck...quite comfortable. I usually play Paul Reed Smith Custom 24, but with the new chambered body, the weight of the LP is great so it may very well become my primary axe.

best guitar there is

By Dixie Normus

from washington dc

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar:

I had always wanted a gibson les paul standard ever since i had played one at the guitar center. This one plays and sounds the best for any at its price. A couple of years age i was looking for a new guitar. I tried a lot of different guitars, strats, teles, prs, ibanez. This guitar was the best, i really liked the way that the asymmetrical neck felt, the way the pickups sound, and just the overall look of the guitar, I play a lot of different genres and you can play them all with just this guitar, i also thrash around onstage a lot and this guitar never gets out of tune, this guitar is awesome

Awsome guitar but...

By srf461

from Addison, TX

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar:

Truly a terrific sounding guitar. Beautiful tone and sustain. The weight feels about the same as my American Strat. I've set my amp up so I can get clean and overdrive by just playing with the volume controls. The only problem I have (and this may be just me) is that it's a lot thicker than my Strats that I've been playing for several years, and it's hard on my right shoulder. It causes me enough discomfort that I have to limit my playing time with it. The Strat design allows me to keep my right elbow closer to my body, while the Les Paul requires that my elbow be farther away from my body. If I rotate the guitar so that the headstock is higher than the body, it seems to take some of the strain off my shoulder joint. But I'm 60 years old, and that could have something to do with it. So, my advice is to play one for awhile before you drop the cash to make sure that your body agrees with your decision. But if you buy it, you'll love the sound!!

INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!

By Matt

from La Habra, Ca

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar:

5 stars all around for this baby. I just got mine less than a week ago and I am still searching for something to be wrong with it. The neck feels great and very comfortable. I recommend this to any experienced player because you definitely get what you paid for. My only disappointment was that it came with Burstbucker pickups(which are great)instead of the classic 57 Humbuckers. None-the-less this is by far the best guitar i have played. Way to go Gibson!

i want one

By Ryan Lauderdale

from Cypress, TX

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar:

If I could give this guitar a million stars, I would, because the Les Paul Standard Plus is the epitome of the magic first created by Les Paul{RIP} and the people at Gibson 60+ years ago, and then some. It sounds like a Gibson Les Paul should, with the nice, warm, fat, toney, long-standing sound. This guitar, while it specializes in blues, hard rock, and high gain situations, can be used to play virtually anything. It possesses great sustain and harmonic response. The body and finish are terminally appealing, and it is not too heavy, despite the track record of previous Les Paul guitars and their weight. A few notable additions to the Les Paul guitar are the Plek fret-dressing system for deadly fret accuracy and intonation, the chambered body which lightens the guitar without sacrificing tone, and the locking jack to keep cables from unplugging easily. To sum it all up, the Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus, having big shoes to fill with the name of the Les Paul guitar, fills those shoes perfectly.
