Overview

Crank up a 2008 Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar and experience the power and performance that more than 40 years of craftsmanship and innovation can produce.

Pioneered and developed with the assistance of pioneering jazz-pop guitarist Les Paul”one of the world's greatest musical and technological pioneers”the Gibson Les Paul has become the standard by which all electric guitars are judged. With fat, rich tone and incredible sustain, the Les Paul lends itself to every style and generation of music. From the sweetest jazz to the heaviest rock and metal, the Les Paul can do it all”it is one of the most powerful and versatile instruments of all time.

The Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus continues to alter”and inspire”the sounds of today's ever-changing musical landscapes. It features a hand-carved figured maple top with matched chambered mahogany back outlined with single-ply binding. A major difference with the Les Paul Traditional is the Pro is made with chambered body. The chambered mahogany back serves to minimize weight, while also adding tonal nuances to the Gibson guitar's overall sound.

The neck is crafted from a single piece of mahogany. Carefully glued into the neck cavity of the body, the neck functions as a single unit with the body. Its asymmetrical shape is the most comfortable neck offered on a Gibson Les Paul Standard.

The BurstBucker Pro humbuckers have Alnico V magnets with slightly mismatched windings to deliver an enhanced "Patent Applied For" tone with more bite and brilliance.

All Les Paul Standard necks receive precision fret dressing and setup with the Plek system. As the guitar lies in a cradle, a computer-controlled robot arm moves along the neck measuring each fret's height, the fingerboard radius, even the bow in the neck. Using that data, the Plek machine adjusts the truss rod, cuts the nut slots for optimal spacing and height for each string, files each fret to a hundredth of a millimeter accuracy, and then polishes the frets. In a fraction of the time it takes a skilled technician, the Plek machine eliminates buzzing strings and dead spots, producing a neck with flawless intonation and superb action.

NOTE: Solid finish models come with the pickguard attached. To give you a choice of how your Gibson Les Standard Plus with sunburst should look, the pickguard is not attached but included in the case. To install the pickguard, holes will need to be drilled into the body.

The first thing I gotta say about this guitar is that it is worth every penny!!! There's no need to buy any other thing for this guitar except a maintenance kit!!! Everything that comes with it is grade A+++ The burstbucker pro pickups that come factory installed are the perfect match for this guitar. They have incredible sustain and aggressive leads but also have jaw-dropping warm crunchy full tone. It has a super fast rounded neck that's great for soloing or playing rhythm on. Mine weighs in at about 8 pounds so its easy on the player and incredible in quality. I got mine in a desert burst finish and it is beautifully flawless!!! 5 out of 5 stars without a doubt! Highly recommend this guitar for someone who's looking for that one special guitar. Gibson you've done it again!!!

The LP model I purchased does not stay in tune, has a sticky neck due to a nitro finish fault often discussed in various forums in the internet and did not come with the finish I paid extra money for. ( figured maple top). I was divided between a Traditional Plus and the Standard and regret not to have picked the Traditional with an exceptional finish I tested in the Store

My New "Go To" Guitar

By David George

from Dunedin, FL

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar:

In an effort to simplify my life, I decided to reduce my stable of electric guitars from 5 down to 3. I hadn't played a Les Paul in many years, but when I found out the Les Paul Standard Plus had the same type of coil switching arrangement as the PRS Custom 24 I went in to my local Guitar Center to check it out. Fortunately they had just gotten in a 2013 Honey Burst model with the new bypass pot on the lower tone knob. Once I picked it up and tried it out, I knew it was the best choice to replace my other two guitars. The finish on this guitar is stunning, and the versatility is nothing short of amazing. I wasn't sure about the new neck style as I had seen many people that love it and many that hate it, but I have to admit I'm falling into the "loving it" camp. It's totally effortless and almost feels as if it's playing itself. It is an absolute pleasure to play. I've only used it onstage one time, so I'm still experimenting with how to best employ the coil splitting, out of phase, and direct line features. This may take a while as I tend to play a fairly wide range of material, but it's nice to know I've got the versatility to address almost anything. I really feel like my stable of guitars is complete now. The ES-335 will take on anything that needs a bit more natural fullness and resonance, the Strat will give me that typical grungy, in-your-face dirty sound, and this Les Paul will take care of everything else. My only problem is I need to break it to my ES-335 that he's been replaced as my "Go To" guitar.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar:

Can't go wrong with Gibson USA. Outstanding tone and feel. Weight is no problem on the newer line, with the weight reduction. Definitely a great all around studio/onstage guitar.

Bucket list? Check!

By Hudson Northcutt

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar:

Wow!!!! I got into guitar when I was 8. Got a black regular schecter. When one of my strings would break, I would play my grandfathers 1967 es-335 cherry. I have since taken the guitar away and jammed till 3 days ago. My grandfather IS still alive but i just kept it at my house. One thing i always told him was, "I would kill for a les paul. Any kind! Just wanted it to be a GENUINE Gibson les paul. We went to dallas to go get an Ovation cleaned up. So while he was cleaning it we looked around, played a few guitars. And there it was.........Up at the very top on the wall. He said, "If you could pick one, which would you?" I laid out millions of things that Io liked and disliked. So we finally got back in the car and my grandmother said, wow y'all didn't walk with anything out" So we discussed it, went back in and got this guitar for my 14th birthday. Guy's, this guitar has a great feel, it sounds so colourful, I didn't know what to say!!! I played this one between another les paul till closing. This one, was 300$ cheaper but had a more vibrant sound that I liked. It has a clean tone on rythem for some blues, then has overdrive on both tones and volume. So for the hard rocker, and blues player, heck, FOR ANYBODY, THIS IS THE GUITAR! The stings aren't to high, like some guitars, the strings aren't to low like fenders, it's just right! The neck, the strings, the pickups, the case.....EVERYTHING!!!! As I am writing this review I'm dying to go home and play it! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!!!!!!!!

i want one

By Ryan Lauderdale

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar:

If I could give this guitar a million stars, I would, because the Les Paul Standard Plus is the epitome of the magic first created by Les Paul{RIP} and the people at Gibson 60+ years ago, and then some. It sounds like a Gibson Les Paul should, with the nice, warm, fat, toney, long-standing sound. This guitar, while it specializes in blues, hard rock, and high gain situations, can be used to play virtually anything. It possesses great sustain and harmonic response. The body and finish are terminally appealing, and it is not too heavy, despite the track record of previous Les Paul guitars and their weight. A few notable additions to the Les Paul guitar are the Plek fret-dressing system for deadly fret accuracy and intonation, the chambered body which lightens the guitar without sacrificing tone, and the locking jack to keep cables from unplugging easily. To sum it all up, the Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus, having big shoes to fill with the name of the Les Paul guitar, fills those shoes perfectly.

Awsome guitar but...

By srf461

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar:

Truly a terrific sounding guitar. Beautiful tone and sustain. The weight feels about the same as my American Strat. I've set my amp up so I can get clean and overdrive by just playing with the volume controls. The only problem I have (and this may be just me) is that it's a lot thicker than my Strats that I've been playing for several years, and it's hard on my right shoulder. It causes me enough discomfort that I have to limit my playing time with it. The Strat design allows me to keep my right elbow closer to my body, while the Les Paul requires that my elbow be farther away from my body. If I rotate the guitar so that the headstock is higher than the body, it seems to take some of the strain off my shoulder joint. But I'm 60 years old, and that could have something to do with it. So, my advice is to play one for awhile before you drop the cash to make sure that your body agrees with your decision. But if you buy it, you'll love the sound!!

Awesome

By Jim

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar:

Just picked mine up today from GC in Fort Collins. I was looking for something with a more comfortable neck. The neck on this is perfect, I have large hands and was getting cramps in my thumb and a sore wrist. This solved it. Also, a beautiful guitar that about plays itself. My other guitar would buzz a lot, I have to really try to make a string buzz on this guitar. Granted my old guitar was a low end Epiphone. I love this guitar and looking forward to many years of using it.

By Dixie Normus

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus Electric Guitar:

I had always wanted a gibson les paul standard ever since i had played one at the guitar center. This one plays and sounds the best for any at its price. A couple of years age i was looking for a new guitar. I tried a lot of different guitars, strats, teles, prs, ibanez. This guitar was the best, i really liked the way that the asymmetrical neck felt, the way the pickups sound, and just the overall look of the guitar, I play a lot of different genres and you can play them all with just this guitar, i also thrash around onstage a lot and this guitar never gets out of tune, this guitar is awesome
