Overview

Since its introduction in 1955, The Gibson Les Paul Special has faithfully served the working musician as a reliable, professional-quality electric guitar at an affordable price. The new Les Paul Special Pro continues this tradition by offering ample bang-for-the-buck; packing more value than ever into this iconic workhorse. Key features of the Les Paul Special Pro include a 60' slim-taper neck with a hand applied smooth satin nitrocellulose lacquer finish, Alnico V Burstbucker Pro pickups, push/pull coil split function for each pickup on the tone pots, gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish, cream neck binding and pickup rings, vintage gold tophat knobs and the Gibson G FORCE tuning system.

Burstbucker Pro Pickups
At the heart of the Gibson Les Paul Special Pro are the Burstbucker Pro rhythm and lead humbucking pickups. The Burstbucker Pro pickups feature an Alnico V magnet (instead of the Alnico II), which offers slightly higher output and allows preamps to be driven a little harder to achieve a more natural break-up. Like all Burstbuckers, the Burstbucker Pro has asymmetrical coils”true to the original PAFs”which supply a more open sound. The Burstbucker Pro Neck is wound slightly less than the original PAFs, while the Burstbucker Pro Bridge is slightly overwound for increased output. The Burstbucker Pro pickups are also wax potted to allow loud volume pressures with minimal feedback. As with all Gibson pickups, every part is precisely manufactured at Gibson USA in Nashville, Tennessee, insuring tight, seamless fittings, and superior workmanship.

Burstbucker Tonal Characteristics
The Burstbucker Pro Lead and Rhythm pickups constitute a versatile and well-calibrated set that offers extremely good output balance from all switch settings. In the neck position, the pickup gives you juicy, warm, creamy vocal-like tones with outstanding clarity, while the bridge position excels at everything from bright jangle through a clean amp, to chunky rhythm through a crunchy amp, to wailing overdrive with near-infinite sustain through a high-gain amp. Selected together, the pair provides tones from funky to greasy, depending upon amp and effects settings.

Revolutionary Plek Set Up
The Les Paul Special Pro is the first model from Gibson USA to utilize the revolutionary Plek machine in setting up the guitar. The Plek is a German-made, computer-controlled precision machine that carefully measures each fret, along with the fingerboard height under each string, and then automatically dresses each fret to within .001 tolerances, virtually eliminating string buzz and greatly improving the overall playability of the guitar. This pioneering process does in minutes what it takes a luthier several hours”sometimes even days”to accomplish. Every fret is accurately aligned, and the guitar is properly intonated, leaving the instrument "Plek'd" and amazingly playable right off of the shelf.

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Special Pro Electric Guitar:

A few years ago I stopped dealing with gc because of their customer service. But this is a tough model to find and I really enjoy it so I get a 20% off coupon call to order and the coupons expired, the good part is the sales guy was more than happy to honor it. What he failed to tell me was I would be getting a store demo which again fine, however the guitar was basically used and when I called support to see if they could send me the gforce charger and truss wrench that were left out of my package I was basically told to send it back and purchase the guitar at full price, I would have done that to begin with if I had known this was what I was getting so now I have an auto tuning guitar with no power sorry sweetwater I should have never strayed

    Well Worth The Money !!

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Special Pro Electric Guitar:

I was looking for a new Les Paul studio, But just didn't like the new color and trim combinations. I ended up seeing this on the big 2015 Gibson sale month going on and took a chance and bought it without playing it. All I can say is I'm glad I bought it. This guitar rocks !! The Special Pro gives you everything you wished the Studio had but for less money. The fit and finish on the guitar was perfect with the sweet nitrocellulose gloss to the great Burstbucker pickups. I also love the neck trim binding that you don't usually see in the lower priced Gibson's. If your looking for a great Gibson for less money this is it !!!

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Special Pro Electric Guitar:

I have been playing Gibsons for the last 45 years, so this review is based on my past experience.
The Special Pro that I received showed how Gibsons' quality control has suffered lately. The pickups were mounted out of line with the strings. The polepieces were not even close to being directly under the strings. The finish showed solid clumps of finish mixed in when it was sprayed.
The guitar was supposed to be set-up, but the strings @ the 12th fret were a good 3/8" off the fret.
I'm sure if you spend $3000 or $4000 on a top of the line LP you'll get much better quality, but Gibson shouldn't even put their name on this "Special Pro".

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Special Pro Electric Guitar:

The best and was a life long dream to own my very own Gibson LP. Everything about this guitar rocks and I love it! I've had mine now for a couple of years and never once has it given me any issues. I'm a worship leader and its perfect for what I play (Hillsong, elevation, Bethal, Chris Tomlin, etc..) and then the price makes it even better. Because being able to afford an instrument that's thousands is very difficult and sometimes not possible. For any serious guitarist especially Gibson lovers this is for you.
