Overview

The solid mahogany body of the Les Paul Special is carved with a double cutaway for amazing upper-fret access, and was given a flat "slab" top for ease of manufacture. The neck is constructed from solid mahogany carved to Gibson's popular "slim taper" profile, which offers a blend of speed and comfort. The neck shape on the Gibson Les Paul Special is an outstanding marriage between the rounded '50s profile and super-slim early '60s profile. An ebony fingerboard enhances note attack and articulation.

Dual Gibson P-90 pickups give the Les Paul Special Double guitar a snappy, slightly gritty response, with a chunky midrange, firm lows, and sweet, musical highs. In the bridge position, the P-90 packs plenty of snarly cutting power, while in the neck position it can be surprisingly rich and refined.

This Gibson guitar comes with a LP Thinline Case.

Gibson - Good and Bad

By Bailey

from Glen Mills, PA

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Junior Special Double Cutaway Electric Guitar:

Anyone that reads message boards or product reviews involving Gibson products has likely come across comments that the brand isn't what it used to be. I would agree and disagree with these types of comments based on my recent purchase of the Les Paul Junior Special Double Cutaway Electric Guitar. I ordered the guitar at my local GC and and had it shipped to the store. Upon arrival, I along with my trusted GC sales man took it out of the hard case and cardboard shipper. Three obvious flaws were immediately noticed; noticeable excess glue line at the neck joint, back plate recessed not flat with body, and very noticeable scuffs on the top of the left horn of the body. I have a hard time imagining that QC at Gibson would not have noticed these flaws. We put it back in the case and shipper and sent it back to GC distribution center and had them send another guitar. Second guitar had only a minor scuff in the same exact place on the left horn. I don't expect a guitar to come out of the box new with a perfect set up but again it makes me wonder what Gibson QC is doing. Neck pick up height had to be adjusted and truss rod adjusted to eliminate some buzz. After making adjustments we plugged the guitar into a Fender Deluxe Reverb and it sounded awesome. Playability was fantastic and tone was incredible. Gibsons reputation and price point should insure that you don't have to go through multiple guitars and adjustments to find one that is cosmetically and functionally sound but that is not the case. However, when the right guitar is found there is no doubt why so many people love Gibsons. The feel and tone can come only from this brand. I continue to buy at GC because of how they handled this purchase. No questions asked when we sent the first one back and made adjustments at no charge on the second guitar. Get a relationship with a salesman in your local store and they will take care of you.

Poor Quality Control!

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Junior Special Double Cutaway Electric Guitar:

I am no stranger to Gibson guitars. I owned a '79 les Paul Standard back in the day and currently own a Les Paul Classic Antique and a Hummingbird Artist. I have been eye-balling the Les Paul Junior Special Double Cutaway for quite some time. I was so excited when I found them for this price, I had to have one. So I ordered Heritage Cherry one. I felt like I was getting a really good deal. The one they had shipped had some serious flaws on the lacquer on both sides of the neck only on the ebony of the fret board. This was not "orange peel" that didnۡt get sanded and buffed out. I donۡt know it looked like the lacquer was brushed on with a cheese grater. It felt horrible in my hands. Also, there were sanding scratches all over the top that did not get buffed out. The edges of the body and the horns had "rug burns" from where it was sitting in the case. Like the finish wasn't fully cured when they placed it in the case and boxed it up for shipment to the warehouse. I could not justify spending this kind of money for something that was this far from perfect. So, we ordered another one, one week later the new one arrived. The first thing I looked at was the finish on the neck. It was much better, not perfect yet, but I could have lived with it if it wasn't for the fact that the body on the new one was 3 pieces. Not only could you see the difference in grain, but you could visible see the seams where the lacquer had sank into them leaving lines in the top. It also had sand scratches and rug burns as well. They still had the original one I ordered, we looked and it was 2 pieces and you could not see or feel the seam. The guys asked me "do you want us to order you another one?" I no longer felt like I was getting a really good deal. I said, "No. If this is the quality of workmanship coming from the Gibson factory these days, I will spend my money on a different brand." They did say that they would let their Gibson rep know about my experience and how disappointed I am.

Awesome guitar

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Junior Special Double Cutaway Electric Guitar:

I originally bought this guitar about 4 years ago, and i've got to say it has really has impressed me. I've used it on genres ranging from rock to blues to thrash, and it's a very versatile guitar for any musician out there. The P-90 pickups sound amazing, and the overall shape/weight of the guitar is perfect for someone like me. The neck feels great, and it really starts to become a part of you after you've played it for a while. This guitar does not disappoint! trust me it is worth it!

Best Sounding Les Paul

By Michael Walsh

from St. Louis,MO

Comments about Gibson Les Paul Junior Special Double Cutaway Electric Guitar:

I have owned 4 Les Paul Special DC's in the past 35 years. The first was my first guitar a 59 TV Yellow. I fell in love with the tone and access to the frets. P90's are killer rock and roll pickups. The reissues from 95-97 are great just like this guitar, except ABR bridges. I do own a beautiful honeyburst Flametop Standard that sounds fantastic with Burstbuckers. My tone really is with P90's running through a cranked Tube amp. Fender, Blackstar, Marshall,Orange, Vht,and Jet City. I have alot of equipment all quality. For the money this guitar is a steal. Get it set up to your style and let the music free your soul.
