Overview

A true legend of acoustic instruments, the Gibson Hummingbird Pro acoustic-electric guitar was first introduced in 1960 as Gibson's earliest square-shoulder dreadnought guitar. Superb for all styles of playing, with a capacity for rich, first-position folk chords and intricate solo playing, the Gibson Hummingbird quickly became an iconic acoustic line, and a favorite among legends like Gram Parsons and Keith Richards. The Hummingbird has been one of Gibson Acoustic's most enduring guitar line.

This 2016 model features a comprehensive Plek-assisted setup for exceptional action and performance. Speaking of which, the fingerboard edge has been softened to make it fit the contour of your hand and a finer grit sandpaper and polishing compounds in the high gloss finish make it easier to slide up and down the neck with ease. The fingerboard and bridge have been hand rubbed and oiled to help them last longer and maximize the rosewood's natural vibrancy. It also has an engraved truss rod cover and L.R. Baggs Element VTC pickup so you can enjoy it when your sound needs the bump of amplification.

Includes hardshell case.

Body tonewoods (back, sides and top)

The body design of the Gibson Hummingbird Pro acoustic electric guitar is known as a square shoulder dreadnought. The top is made from Sitka spruce, while the back and sides are constructed from mahogany, giving the Hummingbird True Vintage a perfectly balanced midrange tone, with unbiased rich lows and clear treble registers. Selecting the right wood, and the formula to dry it out, are two of the most central procedures to Gibson's guitar-building process.

Rosewood fingerboard with traditional binding and split parallelogram inlays

The resilience of rosewood makes the fingerboard extremely balanced and stable, and gives each chord and note unparalleled clarity and bite. The Gibson Hummingbird Pro guitar's split parallelogram inlays are made of genuine mother of pearl, and are inserted into the fingerboard using a process that eliminates gaps and doesn't require the use of fillers. The fingerboard also sports traditional binding over the fret ends, which was a staple feature of many classic Gibson acoustic guitars for many years.

Bracing
Every acoustic electric guitar made by Gibson features hand-scalloped, radiused top bracing inside the body, a feature normally found only in limited run, handmade guitars. By scalloping each brace by hand, the natural sound of the acoustic guitar is focused more toward the center of the body, enhancing the guitar's sound projection. Gibson Acoustic's Hummingbird Pro guitar sports a single "X" bracing pattern similar to the design inside vintage Gibson J-30s. This traditional pattern delivers a balanced midrange tone, with unbiased lows and rich, clear highs, producing a warm tone that has been a favorite among artists and players alike since the original Gibson Hummingbird guitars introduced in 1960.

L.R. Baggs Element VTC acoustic pickup system

The L.R. Baggs Element Active System VTC undersaddle acoustic pickup delivers performance previously unattainable from an undersaddle pickup. The streamlined and efficient design removes every unnecessary internal component to improve the coupling between the transducer and the guitar. This substantially improves the sensitivity of the transducer so the acoustic guitar pickup delivers a robust, lively, and open sound with great dynamics and a delicate high end.

Nickel Grover Rotomatic tuners

Grover's original Rotomatic tuners are an engineering marvel, with abundant style and performance exactly suited for the Gibson Hummingbird guitar. With a gear ratio of 14:1, the Rotomatics deliver precision tuning in a durable housing that provides maximum protection for the gear and string post. All moving parts are cut for exact meshing, eliminating the possibility of slippage. A countersunk tension screw lets players regulate the tuning tension to any degree. A special lubricant inside the gear box provides smooth and accurate tuning stability.

Crown peghead logo

Gibson put the first crown peghead logo on an ES-300 back in 1940, and it has graced the headstocks of many legendary Gibson guitars ever since, including today's Hummingbird Pro acoustic electric guitar.

Rosette

A rosette is the beautiful, hand-crafted circle around the sound hole, and can be one of the most ornamental elements of any acoustic guitar. It is also one of the most subtle and complicated woodworking decorations on any acoustic guitar. The rosette on the Gibson Hummingbird Pro guitar is a double-ring rosette, with the main ring consisting of seven-ply binding, and the second ring three-ply binding, adding a stylish, understated elegance to the Gibson Hummingbird True Pro acoustic-electric guitar.

I had been in the market for a Collings or Martin Vintage series when I walked into my local guitar center to get strings one afternoon in Atlanta, Ga. I made my way back to to "acoustic room" to see if there was anything new to play. The Gibson Hummingbird Pro immediately caught my attention. It's tobacco sunburst finish is stunning. I had previously played a J45 and was not satisfied with the tone. The draw of a Collings or Martin Vintage is the punch, warmth and clarity. Literally as soon as I played the Hummingbird Pro I knew I had found what I was looking for. Punch, warmth, great clarity and blend of mids, lows & highs with each note played. After a few weeks weighing the options I came back into Guitar Center and walked out with a dream. A few days later I had an event to play for. I was pleasantly surprised at the clarity and sensitivity of the LR Baggs Element pickup. Amazing instrument & incredible craftsmanship!

I played these several times so I didn't make rash statement. Every time it felt like I was playing an Epiphone made to look expensive. Lousy action, and not much of a voice. Compared with Taylors and Martins of the same price or less this guitar is a loser in my view. I'm glad I didn't buy this model online - I'd have been disappointed big time. I simply suggest you play and compare as I don't believe they are worth the price they are asking. Just my opinion but you just might feel the same after playing it.

all i ever wanted

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic Electric Guitar:

I can't figure out how anyone could hate on this model if they played mine. Great action, sparkling top end. Maybe not enough bass for some folks but for rock music i can't see a better fit. Ive even played the 3300 $ version several times and can't find it to be anymore pleasing to me. I still pick up these models in the store just to see how they compare to mine and surprisingly most of the ones I've played sound very consistent. Sorry mines not for sale nor will it ever be lol

Not a hummingbird

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic Electric Guitar:

The hummingbird pro is easy to play and sounds ok for that style of guitar. But I don't care for that bright
sound. I like a mello more bassy sound. The hummingbird pro does not have the sound of a hummingbird.
No way should it have the hummingbird name. It isn't the sound Gibson is known for.
My Epiphone EJ200 has a great sound plays very well.
I am very disappointed in my purchase.

Be sure to look at other versions of the Hummingbird first

    By Don

    from San Antonio

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic Electric Guitar:

I do not own this model. I do own the Hummingbird True Vintage, purchased from Guitar Center a few years ago. The H'Bird Pro is different enough from the H'Bird Standard, or other true H'Bird models, to warrant your comparing the differences to make sure you are not relying on the name only. I you are looking for a guitar anything like the ones referenced in the description as used by Gram Parsons or Keith Richards, look at the other models. If you are looking for a great guitar, made by a premier company - at a great price, this is it and could very well be the style and sound you want.

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic Electric Guitar:

I use this instrument to play at church and also have a group that plays christian music. We also record. i had looked at this guitar and had decided this or the Martin HD28 was going to be my next guitar purchase. Unfortunately i chose the HD28 and wound up taking it back and swapping for the Hummingbird Pro. The Martin was a great sounding guitar, just could not get use to playing the neck on it. The Hummingbird Pro plays so easy compared to the Martin. Action was a little high just needed a little adjustment of the truss rod and she plays so easy. I think this guitar is a great all around guitar for any venue of music you would want to play with it. I also think it has a great look to it and could not be happier with my choice.

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic Electric Guitar:

I have played several martins, several Taylors, and several Gibsons. I have also owned several martins. This guitar is hands down the best guitar i have ever touched. And its also the best looking guitar i have ever seen. I absolutely love this thing. They didn't cheap out on any aspect of this guitar. The pickup system is amazing, L.R Baggs does great work. When you look at this guitar you think wow its great, but is it really worth that price? The answer is yes. I bought mine brand new still in a box and let me tell you it was ready to go the second i got it. I cant say enough good things about this guitar. Something to keep in mind is when you play an acoustic guitar at a guitar center you are usually playing a guitar that has been sitting there for a while and is heavily played. The strings are usually close to dead, its out of tune, and you don't get a good idea of what the guitar sounds like. I went and played one of these at guitar center and honestly it didnt sound great. But i took a chance and bought it new and let me telly you its incredible. If you are thinking about dropping the money on this, do it, you wont be disappointed.

      Perfection!

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic Electric Guitar:

Every aspect of this guitar is perfect. It's beautifully constructed and finished. The tone is amazing. It's got some of the J-45's rich low end characteristics, but is less dark and more balanced sounding overall. The setup from the factory was decent - a bit high at the saddle for my taste, but this is easily adjusted. The nut was setup perfectly. I honestly cannot think of another acoustic guitar that I'd prefer over the Hummingbird Pro.

      Hummingbird Pro Acoustic

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic Electric Guitar:

I went in to visit my local GC store last week and went into the acoustic room to see what's new I tried a few Taylor's, Martins' and picked up the Hummingbird Pro. The Hummingbird Pro has a vintage Gibson sound and it simply sweet sounding....full range of dynamics and tone. The Pro has a very strong presentation and sustain usually found on more expensive guitars The Pro has a quality build and attention to detail is superb. I went back today to the GC store and compared it to my Martin Custom and found the Gibson to be warmer, fuller sound and with a complete tonal range. I guess I just like the GIBSON acoustic sound....I compared it to the Songwriter and found the Hummingbird Pro to be a wee bit less shrill/bright SOO, I bought it and when I brought it home and played it for the BOSS ( my wife) she approved immediately. I have a GIBSON AJ ( 1935 acoustic Jumbo) reissue which is a round shoulder guitar & predecessor of the J-45 The Hummingbirds are square shoulder and seem to have better defined low and mid range tonal characteristic. The neck is super easy on the hands ( I'm a senior citizen and need a easy playing neck ) Simply stated....it is a wonderful guitar and plays like it should cost a lot more.

      Best Acoustic I've Ever Owned

      By Mark

      from El Paso, Texas

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic Electric Guitar:

I purchased this instrument online here at GC in May 2013. I've played coffeehouses, clubs, streetcorners and concerts for over 40 years and this is my favorite guitar over that long period of time. It has an extremely strong midrange (thanks to the mahogany)and a lot of power. I've had mine for 15 months now and can attest to a very high build quality and finish. The LRBaggs Element is bulletproof for halls, and for living rooms this guitar is hard to match. Montana Gibson has come up with something very special, especially for the price. The only issue was that the action was a little high at the saddle when delivered, but that was easily adjusted. The sunburst is gorgeous.
