It was time to shop new and trade in my 15 yr. old Taylor 410ce. I wanted a new sound. I did the same thing when I bought that Taylor 15 yrs. ago. Played the big brands until I fell in love. This Gibson did it for me, the feel, the looks the sound, until I got it home and really played it for 45 minutes. My caluses were tearing off my fingers, my hands were sore and I new this guitar will need a serious set up before I do a 2 hr. gig. While doing some leads way down the neck, some strings and notes were dead. Took it back to GC the tech confirmed defective high frets so I gave it up and ordered another. It arrives 6 days later, play it in the store, didn't like the play, string buzz, well getting it set up anyway, take it home, plug it in to find the electronics were messed up, even the on board tuner didn't work right. I was irritated. Took it back for full refund and decided to be willing to pay an additional $1000 for some better quality. The selection at my GC was not good. Ended up elsewhere with a Taylor Grand Orchestra. This guitar is too good to be true.... jeff s.

Great Fiddle

By Dennis W. O'Keefe

from Eugene, Or.

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I own two other Gibsons so the quality of this instrument was no surprise. All that being said, the construction and awesome design of this guitar still impresses me. It's a lot more acoustic guitar than electric. Other hybrids I've owned were pretty much half/half. The info on the Hummingbird said it has a great design for playing chords up top. They were right! I'll play this guitar forever. DWO

This is a very good guitar!

By Mike Stropes

from Minneapolis, MN

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

If shopping for a nice guitar you need to compare this Gibson to the Taylors or Martins that you might be considering. The tone is richer than Taylor's and it just feels better than Martin's while very comparable to their tone. Many of the Gibsons I played seemed like the lower tones were a little on the dead side but this guitar is very good on the lows and highs as well. Spend a little more money than you had wanted to and buy this excellent guitar.

Amazing Guitar/Amazing Price

By JOHN HAUSMANN

from Milwaukee, WI

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is a great buy! Don't kid yourself about what this is. It's not a True Vintage Hummingbird. It's a Songwriter Deluxe EC made out of Mahagony instead of Rosewood, less fancy inlays, slightly (only slightly) lower quality top and neck wood. The Songwriter prices out for 3500, this one at 2400. The sound and tone on this are absolutely fantastic. Equal in quality to more expensive Martin's and Taylor's. In my opinion, a slightly more bluesy, sad voicing, that lends itself to rock, blues, jazz, though bright enough for anything you want an acoustic for. If you check the Martins, to get a similar one all in Mahagony, you are in the 3-4k range. Neck deserves some mention. It's Awesome! I had a Gibson SG, and sold it, because the neck felt exactly the same as the Hummingbird Pro...why go electric if the 'bird feels better....ha, ha. One reviewer on the Guitar Center site complained about the "cheap plastic bridge pins". I was worried it was a scam review trying to sell more accessories. Guess what? I rolled the dice and followed the advice and it's dead on. The difference with bone bridge pins on this to me is incredible. It made the guitar voicing sound fuller and overall guitar volume, NOTICEABLY louder. After some research, turns out the highest end Gibson Songwriters (custom) comes with better pins like this....and for a reason! Beautiful guitar that looks and smells even better in person. Lots of presence.

Bad dealings at the Ocean Township NJ store

Pros

Cons

  • Finish Was Bad

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

The guitar looked like it was finished with a paint brush on the back, (really bad) but it sounded great and felt great. The guitar manager in the Ocean Township New Jersey store was kind of rude and didn't add to well and wouldn't do anything with the finish problem so I didn't buy it from there I will go to another G/C to check one out being that you can only get the Pro from G/C. Bought a lot of guitars from G/C but that makes no difference to them. Bad day

    five stars except the tuner

    By Casey Thomas

    from Portland, Or

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Great meaty neck, full scale (unlike most Gibsons) fingerboard with a wide nut. The neck is fantastic. Good Gibson sound but not quite like a "real" Hummingbird (this is a reworked Songwriter with Hummingbird mahogany backs and sides). The electronics make for a pretty good and manageable sound (I still prefer my AJ with a Baggs) BUT the tuner is just plain sloppy and pretty hard to read, plus it picks up other instruments so tuning during a song while the band plays on ... forget it.. I've spoken to others with Fishman Prefix Electronics and my tuning experience is not unique. Buy this guitar if you like big necks and Gibsons but keep your Snark or stomp tuner handy.

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I always loved the sound of a Hummingbird but never could afford one.
But one day I was online window shopping my dream gibson, when I found the GC website I found the gibson hummingbird pro Ce " it spoke to me" not having a GC here I was not able to check one out in person :( But that day fate was on my side my mother in law was over at that moment talking to my wife about a shopping trip to the U.S , asking if I needed anything I said strings and one of these hummingbird pro ce to put'em on (joking). 3 days later she came back over said here's your strings and oh here's something to put'em on and brought in this beauty and with one strumm that true gibson sound resanated throughout the body and up the neck I was in love. Since that day Ive play my hummingbird pro ce live through a PA system, recorded in studio an just sitting with friends and it has never failed, this guitar takes all you can throw at it and she just looks at you like what else you got. The tone is crisp and clear with a nice bottom end and the sustain is unreal. The neck is slim like a les Paul and make for fast playing and allows you to glide up and down the neck. The fishman controls allow you to have total control over sound and feed back. The classic hummingbird is a true lady. The hummingbird pro dares you to cross the line and once you do you'll never want to go back.

      Love This Guitar

      By Mark Summerlin

      from Elizabethtwon, KY

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I rated this guitar with 4 stars because I just can't get over how Gibson ships its guitars with those cheap plastic bridge pins. I've been playing guitar since I was 12 and this is my second Gibson acoustic. The first was better built. It was a more expensive Songbird, and had the orange custom shop label inside. I bought the Hummingbird Pro for its cutaway body and even dreadnought tone. Gibson designed it with a deep body, (I guess to compensate for the cutaway), and, to my ears, it worked! After upgrading with professionally hand crafted bone nut and bridge saddle, and John Pearce bell brass bridge pins, this guitar is now "five stars". I can't play it enough, and for right now my PRS NF3 is taking some serious ignoring. (It's a great guitar, too!) The Fishman electronics on the Hummingbird Pro are a perfect match for any of the Fishman acoustic amps. (There's something to this statement which should not be ignored). I've been shopping around, have compared several in the same price range, and for this guitar the Fishman amps sound the most natural, every time. I like bronze strings, on this guitar. It can handle their brightness, and rewards me with that mellow Gibson tone that compliments any song.

I bought this guitar the other day and it is amazing. I traded up from a Martin DCAP4 and am very happy. It plays, looks and out performs the Martins I tried in the same price range. It is a guitar that I will grow old with and value for years.

      Great Guitar

      By rick miller

      from Los Angeles, Ca

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Stunning sound and looks! I shopped around for a while trying to find what would be my go to guitar. I played a everything high end Taylor's, Martin's and Gibson's. I wanted an electric acoustic that sounded great plugged in. I already had a fish man loud box acoustic amp so I tested all the guitars through that at several different GC stores. I kept going back to this guitar it really has everything I wanted. The tone plugged in with the combination of the fish man amp is superb and acoustically I think it sounds better than my old Taylor. I did play the Keb Mo parlor style guitar in my search and I fell in love with that as well. I think that will be my next acoustic.

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is a great guitar.......great sound , great neck, very warm, and full. I tried more than a few guitars at Guitar Center. This guitar impressed me the most in the price range. I have had Martins, Taylors, Takaminines, and this one is as good or better. It is slightly smaller than the dreadnought and very comfortable to play. Cheers Gibson! The Guitar Center employees are very helpful. Thanks.

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is the guitar I always wanted and thanks to the the Fishman Loud Box I can finally get a true sounding acoustic tone without fighting the feedback of a microphone. People always tell me how beautiful my guitar is. The neck is perfect for me and the tone is second to none. I got this at a good discount, payed well under 2000.00. For a Gibson thats great!

I sold my Martin and my Mexican made(Great Guitars) to purchase this guitar. It is that good! The Clarity, sustain and playability is amazing. That classic Gibson acoustic sound that you have heard on countless records. I picked this up at a GC in NJ and couldn't put it down. I had to have it and I have no regrets. I've read one negative review . They must have gotten a damaged one. I'm telling you this is a pro grade guitar. BTW, I have the acoustic electric without the tuner which I do not like on any acoustic . The 2016 model. I HIGHLY recommend you try this model out.

Comments about Gibson Hummingbird Pro Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Absolutely happy with the sound coming out of the Gibson Hummingbird Pro, either playing unplugged or plugged direct into a PA. Mahogany back and sides provide a balanced sound with great sustain and resonance. Build quality is superb. Comes with high action, which I personally prefer due to better tone. I am very happy with the neck despite my small hands, but it may be thick for some people, so make sure you spend some time with the guitar before purchase. I have played over 300 acoustic guitars and I would put this in top 10. If you can afford the regular Hummingbird, you may want to go for that instead, but for me, this one plays just as good. If you prefer the sound of rosewood and can afford only one guitar, then Martin or Taylor may be a better choice, depending on your taste. But if you prefer mahogany or can afford a 2nd guitar, I highly recommend this one.
