You can get the sweetest tones out from a Gibson explorer. I have been using this baby for 5 years and it is my favorite guitar by far. The clean is very nice when switching to bridge pick up. When you kick in that crunch pedal, all hell will break loose. Play all your favorite metal/rock riffs and rip your neighbor's ears off! The feel of this guitar is what I cannot get over. The paint finish is very smooth making the neck for easy sliding. The fret is made with precision and it is everything you expect from a Gibson. This is a great guitar.

I hav e played this guitar plenty of time hoping it will be better than the last time I played it, always in vain. One of my idols is Alan Collins of Lynurd Skynyrd and he plays an explorer. First of all this is a very heavy guitar, heavier that Les Pauls. Also the neck was not very fast, the pickups were very lifeless(I was surprised because Skynyrd sounds so good),and the the one I played had a whammy bar that did not work. If you are going to spend the money, the Epiphone version is much better than this one.

Made in the USA

Comments about Gibson Explorer Electric Guitar:

A couple of weeks ago I ordered a PRS Mira X through GC's website. I took it out of the case and amazed at how light it was poorly built. That was a big shock since it was a PRS. I traded it in an decided on a Gibson Explorer. On the contrary, this guitar is finely crafted and is substantially heavier. The finish is a beautiful dark red. It comes with solid Grover tuners that are made of metal and not plastic, which is more likely to break down or fatigue. The neck is fast and pretty easy to play. The frets are too small. I like bigger frets like the SG. It's a little easier to position your hands. The body is built of solid mahogany. That is definitely a plus! The Mira X is made of Basswood, which is considerably lighter. The pickups have the perfect amount of distortion for the type of music I play. The neck pickups sounds great for playing a nice bluesy riff and the bridge is perfect for nice solo. The bridge's action was set a little low for my liking but that is to fix. This guitar is designed to play all types of music. It comes with a nice case. It is lined with a real nice white shag and is molded to keep everything in place. I strongly recommend buying the Gibson Explorer.

Comments about Gibson Explorer Electric Guitar:

Got my Explore Tuned it and started playing the first thing i noticed was that the massively heavy tone that it gave since i play Metallica and slayer etc. it roars loud i have a Schecter C-6 Solo Hellraiser series with an EMG 85 neck and an EMG 87 Bridge pickups and my explorer out did it the clean tone made feel like i had a tone pedal or some magic pedal to get that sound i have been searching for that i could not pull out of my Ibanez gio neither the Fender Straticaster or Schecter, Ive waited years for this guitar Thank you Gibson.

Amazing!!!!!

Comments about Gibson Explorer Electric Guitar:

I've been playing for ten years and have owned many guitars. (fender, jackson, les paul, ltd esp ex-360). but the gibson explorer has the harshed sound I,ve ever pulled out of a guitar. my other guitars I've had to change pickups and toners to get the sounds that i wanted out of them, but not the gibson. right out of the case it gave me exactly what i wanted no foot pedals or anything just the effects my line 6 amp offers. great with metal and rock, grunge. and the neck pickup offers a tone thats perfect for blues or R&B the gibson explorer is worth every penny and i wouldnt recommend anything else for an advanced player. the sharp looks take it back to the 80s but at the same time keep it in style here in 2011. its very comfortable sitting down and even more comfortable standing up. its a very solid guitar altogether. solid body and ebony neck to the double humbuckers and tone knobs and switch. this guitar is amazing and hot.

My dream guitar

By Jim P

from Chicago, IL

Comments about Gibson Explorer Electric Guitar:

This was the guitar I wanted from the first time I ever saw it. Natural wood, gold hardware. I got an '07 model in '08 when the natural wood was still available and I couldn't be happier. This dials in EVERY sound that I want and then some. Over the years, the pickups have started to wear and I've always gotten a lot more bass on the rhythm channel then was natural, but it's played to how I play very well. For over all rock-ability it's not the best. You can go much crazier with a Les Paul because of how it's designed. This is a stay-in-place-to-play guitar, but I've managed to have fun rocking out with it for three years anyway. As for the sound quality: it's a Gibson, and it darn well sounds like one. This has always been a guitar known for it's looks but it's sound is just as good as anything else that I've played. Find one that you like, and spread the Exploration.

What a guitar

By Kenny Drinkwater

from Ambler, PA

Comments about Gibson Explorer Electric Guitar:

background: i've been playing guitar for over 3 years and i've been researching and playing guitars for months now. i'm 15 and a "big" kid so keep that in mind when i get to the size stuff later. this guitar is amazing, don't be deterred by thinking it is only for metal, this thing screams when you want it to and bites when you're hungry for that and sounds big. you will not get a thin sound out of this at all. you can make it a little less bright by turning down the tone knob. the features on this guitar aren't many. its a gibson, but with 1 tone knob, which makes it look so much simpler. its a very well built guitar. it seems sturdy, especially because the guitar i got was up on the wall for 11 months and its in good shape through all the people at guitar center playing it. its also so beautiful, i got this in natural and it just blends with the fretboard and it makes you feel like the notes natural fly out off the frets. the neck is very smooth and its incredibly easy to access the high frets. the finish on it is still in great shape and i can't wait to see how it ages. like i said this guitar is a year old and the gold isnt rusted at all. the only thing i dislike is after a long time playing your shoulder gets a little sore, but it's not nearly as bad as heavier guitars. get this guitar and you won't be dissapointed.

Best guitar ever made.

By Riechard

from Saginaw, MI

Comments about Gibson Explorer Electric Guitar:

I always wanted an Explorer. I went into Guitar Center to try one. First of all, the service was unbelivable. I was sitting there playing one after I had my strat repaired, in less than 10 muinets after I entered. The guitar was too comfortable for words. It felt like it was built for me. The body was wide, keeping my arms suppourted. The neck was fast. The guitar came in standard EADGBe, and the lows were fat and heavy, and the highs were powerful and peircing. This is the best guitar ever made. My dream is to have one with an EMG 85 at the bridge, and an 81 at the neck. This is the best lead guitar avalible, and the best rythm guitar to go with it is a Flying V with an 81 bridge and a 60 neck. Thank you, Gibson, for the best guitar ever.

Beast!! thats all I can say!

By Thrasher

from St. Louis Missouri

Comments about Gibson Explorer Electric Guitar:

This guitar is absolutley a beast. No doubt about it. Just the look of it gives you the feel of its power. I looked and played this guitar for a year at my local Guitarcenter before i had the guts to buy it. I love the look and feel but nothing made me more shocked than when i plugged this beast in. I had broken my gain pedal so i just ran my Guitar through the clean channel on my Marshall MG50FX.....it shook my house!!! Literally it shook my room. I couldnt believe it, so i went to my amp to see how loud i set it....the master was half way off, as the regular volume. This guitar has power. I cant wait to get my pedal so see, feel, and hear the true power of this amazing piece of art. All I can say is it is amazing and i recommend it to anyone, because it is versitale in many genres of music. I mostly play metal on it by I have to admit i played some little slow peaceful songs and stuff like that. This guitar has not let me down yet. This guitar deserves to be played so....GO BUY IT NOW!!! you wont regret it!

the essential guitar for any metalhead

By reaper666

from hillsborough, new jersey

Comments about Gibson Explorer Electric Guitar:

From the moment I walked in to guitar center today and pluged in an explorer, I knew it would be perfect. I started playing master of puppets by metallica, and the sound I got from this guitar was unbelivable. it had that kind of sonic punch that i was looking for. that kind of punch that you have to pull teeth out of your knuckles afterwards. i tried doing some scales and playing the trooper by iron maiden and it was flawless. it never let me down. anything id throw at it it made it sound like nothing id heard before. for those about to rock, we recomend the explorer.
