Good, but not great

By Jim B.

from Salem, OR

I had one of these for a few weeks before I returned it. I don't think Gibson puts a lot of elbow grease into this model. Maybe there are some great ones out there worth all the buzz, but I found the tone to be unexciting on the instrument I got. A lot of boomy bottom end and a cutting, thin high end. Never really found a consistently sweet range. The tone rolled off from harsh to dull too easily. I played several different ones, too, with similar results. Seems like a lot of money for a mediocre guitar. The ES-335 was definitely superior to the low end Epiphones and cheaper Ibanez semi-hollows, but couldn't come close to the Ibanez JSM100-VT that I ended up buying. Hands down, the Japanese built signature Ibanez had way better tone and consistent range, and better hardware, fretboard and finish. Also has a side output jack. For about the same dough, check out the Ibanez. I would have considered the Ibanez EKM100, but I found a used Scofield model at a big discount and was very happy with that.

Great Guitar!!!

By WALTER POWERS

from richmond, ca.

I have my original 1966 ES-335 that I got for my 15th birthday and it was my only guitar for years. I retired it years ago when I started using Les Pauls and Stratocasters(I have a bunch of both!). I saw a Tobacco Sunburst at my local Guitar Center and tried it out. I was surprised that the neck is the same as my '66. I plugged it into a Marshall 50 watt combo and it sounded great so I bought it! It feels great to be using a 335 again and I highly recommend getting one because it's so versatile.

Wow!

By Jordan Hymel

from Orlando FL

This is one of those guitars you dream about owning once in your life. It took a while to decide to purchase a guitar that cost so much but it was one of the best things I have decided to do. A lot of people are on the fence because of the price. Sometimes you cant beat the quality and craftsmanship of a gibson. Save money and buy it!

The guitar I've been waiting for

By MICHAEL TOWNSEND

from Fenton, MO

I've owned this guitar about a month. The review I'm writing is on the 3rd guitar I ordered. The 1st one had a problem with the bridge and the 2nd one had some cosmetic issues. The Guitar Center in Bridgeton, MO did their best to make me happy. This is why I buy from GC they have always went the extra mile to make me happy. Now about guitar. As I said this is the 3rd one ordered and it absolutely the best playing and sounding guitar I've owned. It has the tone I was after and the playability is just the way I like it. It's one of those rare guitars that when I start playing it I lose track of time. I suggest if you can afford it, don't waste your time and money on 335 clones. Get the real thing and you'll be much happier. I know I am.

Amazing Gibson-ES335 -Cherry

By DENISE DARIN

from Budd Lake, NJ

Wow, this guitar is outstanding, what a difference from any guitar I ever played, the rich tones, that come out of this baby are unreal. Worth waiting for and worth the money, The 1957 humbuckers hava a sound like no other, and the workmanship on this guitar is great. Every thing is high end, and I expected nothing less from a Gibson. And yes it's made in the USA.

Face the Mecca When you play this one!

By BRIAN STRAIGHT

from Paradise City, IN

I have long adored this guitar, like my fellow reviewer, when Chuck Berry was duck-walking with it across the stage. I have had mine for a couple months now, and it is even more amazing then I could have imagined. It has such a great sound for playing, well just about anything, but from such a mean crunch, to a great snappy clean tone. I play it through my Marshall AFD100 most of the time, but also through my Line 6 Spider Valve HD100 MKII. It matters little; either way this guitar is the star of the show. It even sounds great unplugged, for goodness sake. More than likely, this review isn't going to tell you anything you don't already know if you covet this guitar like so many do. But I can tell you this: If you can afford it, just buy it! You won't regret it!

what a ride!!!

By FRANK JACKSON

from Norfolk, Virginia

I have always wanted a big red Gibson ever since I saw Chuck Berry back in my childhood. I have it now! It is everything I wanted and more. The plain top in Cherry is incredible. Tonewise, it can do anything you want from warm jazz to delicate finger style and even get nasty (remember Clapton with his?). The workmanship is top notch and it's almost too nice to gig with. I say Almost too nice but I have waited a long time to step out with this bad boy so here I go! I own a lot of guitars but this is one of the finest and most versatile in my collection. You definately get what you pay for. I will hand this down to my children someday.

AMAZING!

By stu

from calgary, alberta

This baby is nothing short of amazing! The thick rich tones, the variety of amazing tones, the sweet neck and the killer looks make this guitar by a LONG shot better than anything i have owned or played. I love my american strat for it's flexibility but this baby knocks it right off the top of the hill...if you ever thought of buying one...do not...like me...hesitate. I have waited for years for this amazing Gibson and now I have it, and am kicking myself for not getting her sooner. She is my 7th guitar...I have strats, a les paul, a tele all great guitars...this baby however is in a world of her own...buy one now...and then thank me for it!
