I bought this guitar in a way in which most dont... I had wanted to learn to play guitar and had a most generous family member buy me a brand new gibson dove. This guitar sounds GREAT. It beats most other gibson acoustics in sound and beats ALL ACOUSTICS in appearance. I definately encourage everyone who can to buy this guitar. It will not let you down.
I special ordered my Gibson Dove from the Kalamazoo Factory in 1968. A professional "guitar head" helped me choose this Guitar and said "You will never get tired of this guitar. Get it." Best advice ever. The cherry/yellow sunburst, original neck & frets, nut, tune-o-matic bridge, grover tuners still make my heart race when I open the original case. In my hands it sings whatever song my fingers tell it to. Every tonal nuance, all the frequencies are there. The look, feel and sound have made other guitarists drool for 40 years. My ears may have lost some hearing in 40 years but this monster just keeps getting better and better. I have never found or played any guitar that can equal the Gibson Dove in almost every aspect of beauty, style, tone and playability. It is a "star", Period.
The Gibson Dove is a beauty. It has the classic looks and fantastic Dove inlay on the pickguard. Parallelograms on the fretboard and sharp nickel tuning pegs! But it also has a great sound! I have heard Loretta Lynn play this thing and she makes it sound great! If I were to pick between the Dove and a Martin HD28... I'd take the Martin. It not only will save you some bucks, but the sound isn't much different at all! That said, this is an excellent guitar and you will get what you pay for!!!
I own a 1968 Gibson Dove Custom, and it is the best acoustic guitar I have ever, and I mean ever played. It has a very warm sound to it, allowing every note to blend together. The sustain is superb and the action is great. The Dove has perfect tone. I wouldn't sell my Dove for the world, it's that's good. You can't ask for a more beautiful guitar, with its MOP inlays every where and bright red back and neck, it's sure to get anyone's attention. It really is a piece of functional art. If you want an extraordinary acoustic, get a Gibson Dove, you won't be sorry.
