Overview

Classic rock doesn™t get much bigger than AC/DC, and no one wallops out the massive, bone-crunching tone like Angus Young on his Gibson SG. Young' incendiary tone has inspired wave after wave of rock guitar heroes, and turned on countless players to the power of his seminal guitar of choice, the SG. Now the Gibson USA Angus Young SG puts all the tone and playability of this classic double-cutaway into a signature model made to Young' own specs. The result is an instrument with all the punch, crunch and sizzle that Angus achieves with his treasured SG, in a guitar that' still well within reach of the workaday rocker.

Way back in 1961, the Gibson SG replaced the underappreciated Les Paul Standard, and while the Les Paul would surface later in the decade as a rock and blues classic, the new SG (originally named Les Paul/SG) was an instant hit in its own right. Its simple yet inspired ingredients of thin, all-mahogany body and neck and two Gibson humbucking pickups gave it a snappy attack with a muscular punch, while its slim, fast neck yielded unprecedented playability.

The Gibson USA Angus Young SG not only captures the look, feel and sound of a great SG, it also embodies some of the rare specs and qualities of Angus' own ™68 model, known to be a stand-out example among a classic breed. Back, black and ready to rock, the Gibson USA Angus Young SG puts the full fury of that classic AC/DC tone in your hands.

As a signature model from Gibson USA that' made to the artist' own specifications, the Angus Young SG undoubtedly looks the part. Dressed in a high-gloss finish, the guitar carries Angus-certified œlightning bolt inlays on its rosewood fingerboard, a signature-engraved truss-rod cover, and contrasting vintage-cream fingerboard binding and selector switch ring. The Angus Young SG' distinctions don™t end with the visuals, though, and this model is built from the ground up to a short-lived set of specs that are rare in existing SGs today.

Light, ultra-resonant mahogany is selected for its dual-horned body, while the dimensions of the guitar' solid-mahogany neck are extremely unusual. Matching the extra slim, narrow neck on Angus' own ™68 SG Standard, the Angus Young SG carries a neck that' just 0.775 thick at the 1st fret, and 0.850 thick at the 12th, with a nut width of 1.550. These specs yield a neck that is superbly playable, equally suited to grinding power-chord rhythm work and speed-freak soloing. To squeeze every drop of tone from the instrument, Gibson USA loads it with the popular ™57 Classic humbucking pickup in the neck and an Angus Young Signature humbucker in the bridge for added punch and sizzle. Vintage-style tuners and a Corian nut grace the headstock, while down at the business end, the classic pairing of a tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece keep things rock solid.

Each guitar comes protected in a snug-fitting Gibson USA hardshell case, includes owner' manual and adjustment literature.

Well made not chunky (that's a plus) neck

By

from Denver CO

Comments about Gibson Angus Young SG Signature Electric Guitar:

I have small hands, with arthritis and tendinitis, and I needed a Gibby style guitar for the band I'm in. I know some late '60s early '70s SGs have small thin necks, but they can be hard to find in good condition at a decent price. Modern SGs have necks that are WAY too thick and chunky for my hands. The Angus Young signature is perfect for my left hand. GC is correct, the nut width is 1 9/16 - Gibson incorrectly claims it's 1 5/8. Fret size is also exactly what I like. Build quality is excellent. Neck binding covers the fret ends - never seen that before - I wonder what that means when it's time to replace the frets. Neck pickup is okay, bridge pickup sounds hollow, almost unusable. I took one star off for the pickups, otherwise it is a fine US made guitar. The Angus replica uses Pearly Gates - after the gig tonight I'll be putting a Pearly Gates in the neck - not sure yet what I'll put in the bridge.

AY Sig for my aged hands.

By

from Denver CO

Comments about Gibson Angus Young SG Signature Electric Guitar:

Well built guitar, indicative of good US build. Neck profile matches what GC claims, not what Gibby claims. That neck profile works well for me, with moderately small hands, with tendinitis and arthritis. Co-guitarist in Allman Bros tribute band, this guitar fits my needs. Neck binding covers the fret ends, never seen that before. Guitar is even lighter than a normal SG, another plus in my book - but it still has plenty of that warm mahogany tone - band members noticed the tone immediately. Neck pup is okay, bridge pup is almost unusable - only good tone out of the bridge is tone rolled all the way off for woman tone. Pearly Gates are going in this weekend. Took 1 star off for pickups - gibby shoud've just installed Pearly Gates like they do on the AY Replica, would've been a 5 star axe.

AMAZING SG PLAY ONE IF YOU CAN

By

from MISSOURI

Comments about Gibson Angus Young SG Signature Electric Guitar:

I WAS JUST STOPPING BY THE GUITAR CENTER ON THE WAY HOME, BECAUSE I WAS LOOKING FOR A NEW LES PAUL... WHEN I WALKED IN I TRIED OUT A FEW LES PAULS STUDIOS, TADITIONALS AND ONE CUSTOM. BUT THEN THEY PUT THIS GUITAR OUT RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME AND I HAD TO PLAY IT. GRANTED I WENT A LITTLE OVERBOARD ON THIS HIGH OF QUALITY INTRUMENT FOR MY TALENT LEVEL. BUT SINCE I HAD SMALL HANDS THE SUPER SLIM NECK WAS PERFECT. ALSO SINCE THE NECK WAS THIN IT ISNT LIKE MOST OTHER SG'S THE "NECK HEAVY REPTUTAION" ALMOST ISNT THERE I FOUND IT COMFORTABLE TO PLAY THE GUITAR SLUNG WAY LOW WHEN I PLAY OR HIGHER UP EVEN SITTING DOWN. I PLAYED IT THROUGH A MARSHALL DSL 15 AND IT NAILED EVERY ACDC LICK I COULD PLAY WITH THE ANGUS PICKUP. IN THE NECK PICK UP (CLASSIC 57) YOU CAN GET GREAT CLEANS AND VERY FULL BLUESY TONE. IT CAN GET PRETTY CRUNCHY IF YOU NEED IT TO, IT CAN PLAY MOST 70/80S ROCK\METAL. BUT IF YOU JUST WANT RAW NASTY GRUNGE I WOULD NOT RECOMEND. THE ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF THAT BOTHERED ME WAS THE THAT IT HAD A GNARLY DRY FRETBOARD WHEN I BOUGHT IT AND ONE OF THE STRINGS BROKE THE DAY AFTER I BROGHT IT HOME. I USE ERNIE BALL COBALT 9S AND A H&K TUBE MEISTER 18.

Gods perfect match for me

By

Comments about Gibson Angus Young SG Signature Electric Guitar:

Best guitar I've ever played! I know SG's are a little overrated but you can't over rate the Gibson guitars, especially this one. Every time I go to guitar center, I always play it. My cousin owns one and I use it a lot. They're durable but light as a feather at the same time which is valuable in a guitar. The way the string bridge is set, it's perfect for those crazy solos but you can still make your chords obvious. It have a great distortion, not to fuzzy but still gives you that hard rock theme. I don't personally own one yet because I'm low on money but it will definitely be the next one I get

WOW!

By

from Beaverton OR.

Comments about Gibson Angus Young SG Signature Electric Guitar:

All I can say is WOW! I usually would not even give a guitar that is a signature series a second look but what caught my attention was the description. this guitar is made to Angus Young's specifications. A thin line body for weight relief, A very small neck, all the way down to the nut(perfect for smaller hands) and the design gets rid of that annoying neck drop. It has cool AC/DC lighting bolts as fret inlays, and what I especially like is his signature is not easily seen, so I don't feel like I'm playing Angus's guitar, just a great SG...
