I cannot say enough good things about the Advanced Jumbo. In the last two years I had a J45, a Hummingbird Pro Cutaway, and a most recently a Songwriter. I thought that I was satisfied with the Songwriter until I played the AJ. Don't get me wrong...all of the above guitars were nice but when I played the AJ it blew me away. The sound, the volume, tone, the neck and the playability captivated me. Being a former history teacher I wanted to know everything that I could find about the AJ. I feel that this "education" enhanced the playing experience. I kept coming back to play this one until I just had to have it. At the present time they are kind of hard to find but if you are in the market for a top shelf acoustic you owe it to yourself to give it a try. It was not one that I thought to consider until I played it. Every review I read was golden. No more looking .... I have the best guitar of my life.
I saw this Guitar at my Local GC and sat down to play it. I had a Taylor 314, Martin Custom D Rosewood....I say had because after 10 minutes, I knew that I had to have this classic. It plays LOUD, Full Tonal Range, Beautiful Bottom end/warm not boomy and the natural sustain is breath taking ! The only way to express its amazing full bodied sound is to compare it to a grand Steinway....in other words it sounds like a symphony The neck is perfect in size..( I have thick fingers)...bar chords are easy and the attention to detail is amazing.... this guitar is a work of ART, beautiful sounding and beautiful to look at
This guitar has some real character that you won't find in other rosewood-body acoustics. There is nothing boring about the Advanced Jumbo. Rich lively sound across the entire range, sweet finish, vintage tuners, tiger stripe pickguard, and even unique arrow inlays on the fretboard. A lot of people say that the Martin D-28 is the standard for acoustic guitars, and I guess they are entitled to their opinion, but I think the Advanced Jumbo is the real standard.
my old picking buddy and I spent a couple of hours playing every high-end guitar at the downtown seattle g-center. Martins, Taylors, other gibsons, etc. We kept coming back the the AJ for volume, tonal balance, sustain, lively sound. The other instruments just didn't compare to our ears (or to another non-guitarist friend who was there wit us). Rob got his that day and I got the same model a few months later. Three years later I'm still in love!
Picked up the Advanced Jumbo 1 week ago. In the store I had it next to a Martin that was $ 600.00 more. I had a hard time deciding the Gibson was brighter and more articulate the Martin was a little warmer. When all is was said and done the Gibson was everything I was looking for in sound, had a better look then then the Martin, and the final thing that convinced me was my said she liked the sound better from the audience perspective. I could not be more happy when I got it home and it sounded just as good. With the 30 day return policy from Guitar Center it was a no brainer.
Wonderfully HUGE sound - woody, solid low end (not mushy or boomy), articulate mids & sweet rounded highs. I've gone through several high end Martins, Larivees, Guilds, etc., and a Bourgeois JOMC-Deluxe. But this guitar is my favorite for live playing. It's a BIG, well defined acoustic sound. I love the meaty neck shape and size. And was surprised by the relative light weight of the guitar - an indication of good design and materials. Really nice light nitro finished sunken down into the grain of the top. I kept thinking this guitar was under-priced. Very Happy!
This guitar's tone is so pure and balanced. The Advanced Jumbo outplays the higher end Martin dreadnoughts and Taylor models. Not favoring too much of the lower end while not sounding too twinkly, the Gibson Advanced Jumbo provides the perfect sound for any style.
I have had a Martin D35 for a while and was looking for a second guitar. I played a lot in the quest and just fell in love with this Gibson. Great action, tone, and sustain. So many things I play now actually sound like the original recordings. I'm not a great player, but I love the sound. This guitar has re-inspired me to play more and more... I think I got a good deal at my local Guitar Center, and no pressure to buy. Good transaction, great guitar.
