A good deal overall

Comments about Gibson 2017 SG Special T Electric Guitar:

I bought this guitar because I needed a backup SG for my AC/DC tribute band. When I unboxed the guitar, the factory setup was not great and it required some tweaking. I did not care for the feel of the satin cherry finish, either, and I think the single-ply pick guard looks cheap and was an asinine way to cut corners considering you can get a 3-ply on even an Epiphone G-400 model. I also ordered a new truss rod cover to get rid of the "SPECIAL" on the truss rod cover. Overall I questioned my purchase at first, however, when I plugged this guitar in, I began to feel completely different about it. The tone is on par with any SG Standard I've ever owned. The volume roll is very dynamic. It cleans up when you roll back, without muffling, and gives you more gain as you roll up. Today I will be ordering a 3-ply pick guard for it and that will go a long way toward giving it a much better look. I will also be adding a "RHYTHM/TREBLE" trim ring around the pickup switch. I do love the fact that they put block inlays in this model instead of dots, and that you can get it with the angel wing pick guard and not the stupid bat wing that they put on most Standards from the late 80s through last year, with a year or two where they didn't in between. It gives it a more vintage look. The only area in which I feel this guitar disappoints me is when I compare it to just about anything PRS SE puts out. It pales in comparison to my upper-end PRS SE Mikael Akerfeldt model. It's just really hard to top the quality PRS SE puts out for as little money as they do, and I suspect that's why Gibson has had to improve their lower-end models and move features from the $1,800 SG down to the SG Standard model.

Comments about Gibson 2017 SG Special T Electric Guitar:

I'm not a great guitar player but was looking to move on from my entry level guitar. I love the look and feel of this SG. I went with the Special because I liked the color and the block inlays and it was cheaper than the Standard. I got it for a pretty good price with a coupon. The neck feels great and it's not as big of a stretch with my small hands as the Squier I have. The action is great and it seems to be set up pretty well.

Comments about Gibson 2017 SG Special T Electric Guitar:

I've been a blues, rock and country player for 40+ years I have a Les Paul Standard,Custom a Fender American Standard Telecaster and a Fender American Standard Stratocaster, this is the first Gibson SG I've ever owned and seems to be the most versatile guitar I have the time quality is right there nice and clean when I need it and dirty as I want it also I love the neck the action is smooth very easy on my hands really nice guitar I'm very happy with it,the only thing I dislike is it came in a gig bag instead of a vintage hardshell case, gig bags are junk this model wasn't offered with a vintage hardshell case, so I guess I have to buy one but I love the guitar
