When you initially pick up the HP 635 W, your first response will be how comfortable and streamlined the Advanced Response neck feels–smooth and fast. Designed and engineered in Montana, great efforts were made for sculpting a neck that would unleash the player’s ability and this totally delivers. It allows you to be completely free and creative, fundamentally changing the interaction and relationship between you and your instrument. The 2017 HP 635 W's flatter radius and dense Richlite fingerboard creates a playing surface that is both smooth and fast with perfect string action, superb for complex chord voices, or intricate solo music. The domed, solid Sitka spruce top is joined with stunning walnut back and sides, and hand bound in distinctive black binding on the top and back. The two-piece maple neck is hand-fitted with a superior compound dovetail neck-to-body joint with hot hide glue, just like all Gibson Acoustic for the ultimate vibration transfer from neck-to-body.
The 2017 HP 635 W is finished off with elegant Gibson appointments, including a silver block Gibson decal on the headstock, classic mini nickel Grover tuners, superior Tusq nut and saddle, Richlite bridge and fingerboard and mother-of-pearl position markers. Comments about Gibson 2017 High Performance HP 635 W Square Shoulder Dreadnought Acoustic-Electric Guitar:
I've had mine for a few weeks now and can say that I can see myself growing old with it. The sound, look and playability of this guitar reaches me in ways that Martin and Taylor don't. This one just felt right to me.
I really like the hidden volume control on this guitar. It's easier for me to access on the fly than those mounted on the side. I also appreciate that the wood was not cut or drilled. It's nice touch that I will probably insist on in future purchases. No batteries, no tone control, no phase switch , tuner or mute button. Simply a full sound. This model comes with a strap button on the back of the neck and others in this range didn't.
It has taken me a while to get used to maple necks on acoustic guitars. I stayed away from them for a long time but I can say that it's a fine neck, very playable just like Gibson says it is. These models have '2017'stamped into the head stock and I think that's pretty cool. The serial number says mine was made November 17, 2017. I've heard a lot of things about Richlite fret boards, good and bad but to me it just looks and feels like ebony. I really like it and wouldn't hesitate to get another guitar with a Richlite fret board.
The walnut back and side are what convinced me to buy this one. It has a great sound and a unique look that sets my guitar apart from any of my friends' guitars. The pattern on the back of mine is so pretty I bring it out of the case sometimes just to look at it. The finish is thin, and you can see that it didn't saturate the grain, allowing the texture of the wood to show through if you look close, I wasn't sure I liked that at first but I think as the guitar ages that's gonna allow it to shine.
I don't like the small tuners. I'd rather have standard size and don't see any reason for the smaller ones. The B string is louder than the others when plugged in, but that's fixable,
I've played a couple shows with it already and it's a champ!
