Overview

The 2016 SG Standard T with P-90 embodies everything that made the original such a legendary guitar right down to its period-correct knobs. Its solid mahogany body is hand-sprayed in gloss nitrocellulose using a labor-intensive process that is as much about great tone as achieving a great finish. The set mahogany neck is bound with side dot markers for feel and performance.

The neck sports Gibson's classic width that players prefer, and uses a self-lubricating Graph Tech nut for improved sustain and intonation. The rosewood fingerboard is dressed with trapezoid inlays for traditional looks and is thicker than last year's, offering a more solid playing feel. You'll get authentic single-coil tone and amazing versatility on this model SG Standard T from dual P-90s. In any position they sound amazing.

Chrome hardware includes a tune-o-matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece, and traditional manual tuners that add a vintage note, but with modern performance. The 2016 SG Standard T comes fully set up and ready to hit the stage right out of its included gig bag.

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Standard T with P-90 Electric Guitar:

I was about to buy a used 2006 SG Classic (the reissue they made a while back w P-90s) from a guy and since I was meeting him at Guitar Center AND since they had this thing hanging on the wall, I thought I'd do a little comparison. NOT EVEN CLOSE. The new one I played was a disgrace. There were tool marks ALL over the fret board and I'm not talking little forgivable ones, these were ugly ugly gouges. I've never seen anything like it on a US guitar before. I don't even recall seeing anything this bad on an import! The red from the neck also bled into the white binding in several places. The factory setup was equally terrible. I was shocked. I know I know, most Gibsons aren't this bad, I'm a die hard Gibson player myself but man. Just be aware, ok. I don't make the rules I just play the game. And in case anyone wants to know, the 2006 SG Classic I bought is a phenomenal guitar so if you have the opportunity to buy one, DO IT. Best SG I've ever had. For what it's worth, comparing the 2 strictly by tone, they're pretty much the same as they should be and the tones these produce are stunning. Very punchy and percussive. I've never heard a Gibson sound so strat like (think John Mayer) while clean, yet so big, bold, and nasty distorted. It's not that "in between" single coil and humbucker sound so many describe. The combo of P-90s and all mahogany creates a distinct sound that's neither single coil, humbucker, or in between. It's in a league all by itself, that's how unique and wonderful it sounds. Rich complex harmonics, deep lows, biting mids and highs, yet sweet. I play blues, jazz, hard rock and more or less metal and it does each exceptionally well. Don't listen to people that say it cannot do high gain metal because of the pickups, I'm here to tell you that it not only CAN, it does it with grace and a distinctive character you cannot get with humbuckers or single coils.

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Standard T with P-90 Electric Guitar:

Once you get over the mile-long neck, the rest is easy. That's if you are already a Les Paul fan. The neck joins the body at the last fret. Great for reaching the high notes, but sort of surprising if you are comfortable with the LP configuration.
I'm a fan of the P90s, so I had to at least give the SG a try. Oddly enough, after 50 years of playing, this is my first SG, and I'm glad that I stumbled on it. It fits your body similar to the Strat, and getting used to the weight won't take long.
Just be aware, that regardless how they appear, P90s are single coils. They are capable of being bright, very bright, and as dirty as you dare to take them. These are not humbuckers, so sit down and plug one up before making your purchase.

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Standard T with P-90 Electric Guitar:

I had really told myself that I was done buying guitars this year. I had the best intentions. Then Gibson puts out the 2016 SG Standard and knocks the price back down to reasonable levels, and I was able to sell my Future Tribute one in on a trade-in to get a nice red cherry SG Standard. What an upgrade! I love this guitar. The action, the neck, the pickups, the tone, the playability, it is all just wonderful. I am now a huge fan of the SG and recommend one to everyone just like a Fender Telecaster. If you don't have one, you don't have a guitar collection, in my opinion. This one is a very nice guitar that will not break the bank, hopefully. If you can buy only one guitar, this one is a strong contender to be that one guitar. You can play rock, blues, jazz, country, you name it. A real workhorse. Highly recommended. The gig bag is okay.
