Overview

The 2016 SG Special T is an affordable option for the mini-humbucker enthusiast. Reminiscent of Tribute models of the past, this is an exceptional value. It's made of the same vibrant materials as its predecessor with a solid mahogany body and set maple neck. It comes in an assortment of eye-catching finishes, all hand-sprayed to preserve its distinct resonance.

The neck marks the return to Gibson's traditional neck width, using a self-lubricating Graph Tech nut for better sustain and improved intonation when bending notes. The rosewood fingerboard is thicker than last year's, offering a more solid playing feel, traditional tone and better sustain. Electronics feature Alnico-powered Rhythm and Lead Tribute humbuckers that produce everything from warmth to searing leads in a more compact package, that also allows you to swap in P-90s if you so choose down the road.

Chrome hardware includes a tune-o-matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece and traditional manual tuners that add a vintage note, but with performance that is smooth and efficient. The 2016 SG Special T comes fully set up and ready for action, and includes a nice gig bag.

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Special T Electric Guitar:

I fell in love with these from the very first time I saw them while daydreaming on the GC website . After months of drooling online as there is no Gibson dealer in my little town I ordered one and when it arrived I was blown away. When I ordered it I was told there was a slight blemish, but I'm dogged to find one, at least anything I would consider a blemish. The neck is fantastic, the perfect amount of thickness and width. Frets were well dressed and all I needed to do was tune it and it was ready to play. I am by no means a guitar god but I play a relatively versatile palette of songs from Country , Reggae, Rockabilly, Rock, Blues ,Garage Punk Post -Wave and this guitar is suited to any song I throw at it.The mini humbuckers provide THE tone I've been chasing since I first grabbed a guitar 30 years ago. The satin vintage sunburst and cream plastic are just a feast on the eyes in person , believe me, the pictures try but don't capture the nuances of the finish. This is the guitar that meets all my needs in tone , feel and visual departments and the very affordable price is just the icing on the cake. If I had to have a complaint I guess it would have to be the gig bag it came with. It's not terrible or anything but it is a pretty snug fit and doesn't offer any real protection other than keeping the dust off of it.But hey it's better than nothing for sure. Long story short, if you are on the fence about one of these , just get it!!! You will thank yourself!!

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Special T Electric Guitar:

This is a surprizing little axe...the pickups are bright and full-sounding. Very musical. The finish is dull and bleak on the back but the hardware is solid. I see that for 2017 the 490's are back and it looks like the neck is again mahogany, not maple as on this model. In other words, it will sound just like most every other SG you've ever heard. The finish on the '17's is a little shinier-but still satin, kind of satin gloss, and the neck seems slightly thinner. Doesn't matter; these pickups are the bomb. Got this one for $560 or so...a steal.

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Special T Electric Guitar:

Third SG-First with Mini Humbuckers. I really wanted and SG with Mini's. No music store stocked them so I took a chance and ordered mine from GC online. This is the fist time I purchased a guitar without first inspecting and playing it thoroughly. Guitar arrived as scheduled, box and packing was damage free. Took the guitar out and played unplugged and the resonance was just incredible. Visual inspection checked out perfect. Set up, hardware, fit and finish were as I anticipated. Weight and balance just as good or better than my other SG's.
Plugged in and was just blown away with the clean sound on all three pickup positions. OD sounds again, just perfect. Playability, feel and action was immaculate.

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Special T Electric Guitar:

Have played a few SGs along the way, but never really found one that I liked until now. This is a great guitar for a really good price. The neck fits my hands, and it reaches all the way to the top easily! Electronics are good (what a contrast to Epiphones), and the mini humbuckers may look small but can put out a really big sound--both Santana-style sustained notes and power chords. This is by far the best SG I've ever owned. Finally got one of the guitars of my dreams! Love that Satin Cherry finish.

Comments about Gibson 2016 SG Special T Electric Guitar:

I bought a Gibson SG Original 2 for almost $2,000 recently and hated it. Also got a Gibson Firebird that had a faulty tuner in the headstock. Took both of those models back. I was beginning to think Gibson had lost it until I played this one. Right out of the box with a little tuning even with the strings it came with it slays! Best Gibson I've played by far and at less than $1,000 it's even more amazing. Hands down the best guitar I own out of the dozen in my stable. Feels best, plays best, it's just the best.
I'd definitely recommend it. No extra frilly bells and whistles, just a straight ahead rocker. Clean or high gain it's solid. Surprisingly light weight as well which my back appreciates.
