Overview

The Les Paul Traditional 2016 T takes things up a few notches to present one of the nicest pieces in this year' Gibson lineup. If you appreciate a deluxe top and superb pickups, you™ll love this one. It features the same tonewood combination that helped make the Les Paul a legend with the addition of a beautifully carved, solid Grade-AA maple top. The superior top wood lends bite and articulation to the sound while the mahogany body, with traditional weight relief, adds warmth and depth.

The neck sports Gibson' traditional nut width with a self-lubricating Graph Tech nut that helps in tuning and lets strings return to pitch following heavy string bends. A pair of Gibson ™57 Classic humbuckers are onboard, powered by alnico magnets and created exactly in the image of the original PAF-style pickups, offering up an inspiring array of authentic Les Paul tones.

Chrome hardware includes a tune-o-matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece, and traditional manual tuners that add a vintage note, but with performance that is smooth and efficient. The Les Paul Traditional 2016 T comes ready to play in a traditional brown hardshell case.

I picked up a Gibson Les Paul 2016 Traditional in Honey Burst. I absolutely love it. It sounds and plays amazing. I played a bunch of guitars which included PRS, Fender, Ibanez, Scheter and Gibson. The Fairfax store was busy but all the sales reps were still very laid back and let customers due to labor day sale. When I started playing Gibson's I first tried a studio 2016, then a 2016 LP Standard, then this 2016 Traditional. Finally Sarah got a Gibson 2014 CS RI 58 for myself to test A/B against 2016 Traditional. I did like the CS RI 58, however the 2016 Traditional was perfect. Sarah did an amazing job assisting with the sale and was very knowledgeable about Gibson Les Paul's.

Played two different guitar's of this model. Both sounded similar. They sounded pretty good at the store but that's where it ends. I brought one home and plugged it into a Mesa Mark V:25. Mind you that I own six other Les Paul guitar's. All of which sound great through this amp. When playing the 2016 Traditional,I immediately noticed a tone that sounded gritty with very little string definition. Notes just lacked clarity. I spent hours adjusting pickup heights and pole piece's to no satisfaction. I even adjusted the settings on the amp. Tried it with a Marshall JVM 205C. Nothing seemed to work. I took it back to the store where the tech said it sounded fine to him and said it's just they way the guitar sounds. He never bothered to check the guitar out. So I returned it. I wanted to like the guitar but I could not get over how poor it sounded in comparison to my other Les Paul guitar's. I don't know if Gibson is using inferior pickups or electronics to cut costs. But I do know, it doesn't sound the way it should. So be cautious when trying these guitar's. Bring a trusty Les Paul with you and do a comparison through the same amp. That's what I'm going to do the next time I get a chance to try one of these. I hope you have a better experience then I did.

Comments about Gibson 2016 Les Paul Traditional T Electric Guitar:

This 2016 Traditional is all I had hoped a Gibson Les Paul would be. It plays like a dream. It's well balanced. The fit and finish is amaising.
This is my 4th year of learning to play the guitar. I went to lessons last night and my teacher said, man you must have been practicing this week. I was, but this guitar made me want to play. It plays that well! I'm 57 years old and just learning. I use to haul equipment, set up the PA and run lights for my freinds back in the early 80's. I would look at their LP's and say,"if I ever learn to play, I want a LP." Now I do. Thanks Gibson for a great guitar. Thanks GC for making it happen.

Comments about Gibson 2016 Les Paul Traditional T Electric Guitar:

I Just bought this last week and have really had a chance to put this thing to the test. I play through a 100 watt orange rockerverb MKII.

This guitar is an absolute monster. Ignore the previous review about the sound issues, there had to have been something wrong with that guitar/amp.

        I can't find a flaw on it.

The guitar responds to many playing techniques well.

The tone is very late 50's. Extemely powerful and fat.

this is definitely a great year to buy a gibson guitar. The past few years could have been better, but they are doing the right thing for their devoted players again.

Comments about Gibson 2016 Les Paul Traditional T Electric Guitar:

This is a very good guitar. I was really on the fence with this one, but couldn't be happier with how it performs. Like many people, I've been frustrated with "features" Gibson has added over the past few years. I was glad to see most of the annoying ones gone with this guitar. There are still a few technical things I would change, but overall I'm really happy with the guitar!

Comments about Gibson 2016 Les Paul Traditional T Electric Guitar:

This is one beautiful instrument w/ that distinct, iconic Les Paul tone. I've had mine for less than a week and can't seem to put it down. I always hesitated to buy one b/c of the price tag, but my fiancé decided to surprise me w/ one in tea burst as an early wedding present, and I'm thankful she did. If you're a fan of that old school Les Paul tone and feel you won't be disappointed w/ this guitar.

Comments about Gibson 2016 Les Paul Traditional T Electric Guitar:

This guitar is absolutely beautiful and it is hands down one of the most powerful guitars you will ever get your hands on. It can and will play anything you want to play. Gibson knew what they were doing when they made this guitar. It's everything ANY guitarist would want. It's amazing.

However, Mine does need some adjustments with the action. The low E string buzzes quite a bit and it's a real downer but I guess these things sometimes happen.

I wish I could actually review the guitar I ordered, a Traditional T. However someone at the distribution center goofed and sent a Standard T. Due to the error and how the computer systems are linked I ended up with the upgraded guitar at no additional cost. Guitar center rocks!

I went to GC Friday intending to buy a Gretcsh, but tried about twenty guitars, some two or three times. My range was going to be 1000 to 1500 dollars.I wasnt really that impressed with anything in that range being any better than what i own now,EPiphone LP,entry level Strat,ES-175.When I Started to play the LP,I could instantly tell this was the best, because the fretboard fit my hand like a glove. The tone at fret 22 was incredibly clear.very easy to play.I guess you get what you pay for.Great guitar!
