Overview

Introduced in 1960 as Gibson' first square-shouldered dreadnought, the Hummingbird arrived at the dawn of a new era in music, and was rapidly embraced by the prime movers on the scene. Built with thermally cured sitka spruce top, the 2016 Hummingbird True Vintage reflects the appearance and performance of those early iconic instruments. The thermally aged top allows Gibson to replicate the aging process on the cellular level for that legendary Gibson Acoustic vintage sound and appearance.

Other appointments include period-correct tuners for added authenticity a softened fingerboard edge to comfortably fit the contour of your hand. and an enhanced finish created by finer grit sandpaper and polishing compounds for smooth VOS finish. Its premium setup utilizes state-of-the-art German-engineered Plek technology to create the finest playing surface possible. It is hand finished for the finest feel and playability. Smoother hand rubbed and oiled fingerboard and bridges helps the wood last longer and maximizes the tonewoods' natural vibrancy.

Includes hardshell case.

Comments about Gibson 2016 Hummingbird True Vintage Square Shoulder Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

The "Pleck System" set-up was a joke! I had to have the action set up as it was very high making it difficult to play. It does have nice tone but the vintage look is phony and the tuners are junk. The guitar is very light. I have both a Martin D45 and Martin D16RGT. Martin is superior in all ways, sound and playability. The Gibson Hummingbird is my 3rd Gibson, a Studio Acoustic and Supreme Les Paul. I hope it improves with playing. I always wanted a Hummingbird, bought what I expected to be the best, but it is disappointing.

One if the best guitars I have ever known !!

Comments about Gibson 2016 Hummingbird True Vintage Square Shoulder Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

One of the best guitars I have ever played and owned. I've owned a J-200 for around 30 years but have always wanted another Dreadnought and the Hummingbird did the trick.I played it right out of the box. Everything was already set up to play, Wonderful tone, fast neck and totally gorgeous. Many people like a Martin over a Gibson, it's a matter of choice I say. No one can go wrong with a Gibson.

    Vintage VS True Vintage H'Birds

    By Jim D

    About Me Experienced

Comments about Gibson 2016 Hummingbird True Vintage Square Shoulder Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

The description here says "True Vintage". That is the previous upscaled model (over the 'standard' H'Bird).
The actual guitar/model here is the newer "Vintage". The main difference is the thermally treated top, which makes it sound more like an aged, therefore 'classic sounding' guitar.
A previous commenter stated the 'Pleking' did no good because the action was high.
Pleking only ensures perfect frets - not action. Action is affected by the nut, neck/truss rod and saddle.
Gibson acoustics are sent with slightly higher action to allow purchasers (or the Guitar Center tech) to slightly lower it to taste. Easier to lower than raise if you remove 1/16th of an inch off the saddle.

Comments about Gibson 2016 Hummingbird True Vintage Square Shoulder Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar:

I work for a church, and we have been on the hunt for the perfect guitar. We operate in a 1300 seat auditorium, and needed a guitar that, equipped with pickups, would work for full band sets, and acoustic sets. We also needed a great guitar for recording, and this one fit the bill. We tried SO many guitars. Martin, Gibson, Taylor, Collings, this one was the hands down favorite.
