Comments about Gibson 2015 SG Standard Electric Bass Guitar:

my local GC still had one of these in stock and had dropped the price so much I had to pick it up. I've mostly been a fender guy. and while this bass sounds nothing like a fender, I love it. I play rock n roll and its just got the best rock tone. its a little more punch than boom. the sound cuts right through the mix. the first time I played it at practice everyones jaw dropped. I turn the neck pick up to ten and the bridge to 8 and it gets a nice slightly overdriven sound. fuzzy not farty. the one con I notice compared to my fender I have to turn my gain up with this bass to get the same volume as the fender. no big deal. the short scale makes it easy to play and the neck is smooth as butter. so glad I got this bass.

Comments about Gibson 2015 SG Standard Electric Bass Guitar:

The T-Bird mini is thinner sounding, it doesn't achieve a twangy sound, but does provide a range of tones on the instrument, and also help color the tone of the T bird if you prefer the classic EBO sound. I've found both at full volume is slightly quieter than having the mini vol about 9 and T bird at 10, or the T bird by itself on 10. I'm using this bass through a Peavey VB2 and 28hz tuned 410. The SG bass is significantly quieter than my P bass or Warwick corvette, to push the amp to the level of distortion i like requires a lot more gain/volume on the amp. That is the reason for my 4 star rating- and I think new pickups will solve this. It is totally use able, but it could be better. I think the range of tones it produces is very wide and would suit a wide range of players, but comparing it to a Squier P bass and having the SG much quieter is a little disappointing. The SG bass does have a certain unique swelling fuzzy fat tone compared to the P bass and Warwick corvette, not for everyone or all things, but great for a huge constant sustaining low end. There is a bit of neck dive/neck heaviness, I wish the body was a little larger or thicker, it is the same size as an SG guitar. If i hold the neck up high and rest my forearm on the top edge of the body it balances fine and is comfortable. The light body has it's benefits, very resonant, and easy on the back and shoulders.

Comments about Gibson 2015 SG Standard Electric Bass Guitar:

I picked up a 2014 SG special bass about 9 months ago. I've been playing guitar and bass for nearly 30 years, owned several from $1000 range down. What attracted me to the SG bass is the tone you hear in late Cream, early UFO, Flipper, Mountain, and more. Some of the fattest heaviest fuzziest bass tones. Being mainly a guitar player, i really love the short scale of the SG bass, so easy to play. The SG bass is light and is easy on my back. The tone is deep, thumping, filling the low end and not much else, which for me is what the bass is supposed to do. My only hesitation in buying this bass was reading people saying you can't tune a short scale low. It has taken some experimenting, but all it takes is the right string sizes. I like to tune as low as Astd and drop G, and I've had this bass work well with the Dunlop heavy core 55-115 set. The key is the 115 top string. It is a bit loose on drop G, but it really handles the rest fine, B std is no problem. I do like a slightly looser feel and sound to my strings. I've found 115 is about the largest that will fit and achieve good intonation using the stock bridge. i've tried the D'addario half rounds 55-110 on my P bass and i think I will try these next on the SG bass. I learned the hard way that if you want flat wounds you need strings made for short scale. Otherwise they may break going around the tuning posts. Flats just cant bend that tight and not stretch/break the inner wire. My only disappointment is learning that the T bird pickup is nothing like the original EBO's. The T bird is ceramic and about 10k, the EBO pickup used Alnico V and wound around 30k! The volume is a bit low on the SG bass and requires more gain/volume, vs my P bass, not a big deal, but i plan to replace the T bird with something more like the EB0 pickup.

Great bass, good improvements over previous years

Comments about Gibson 2015 SG Standard Electric Bass Guitar:

This bass is everything I hoped it would be and more. As far as feel / looks; it has an excellent feeling short scale neck, beautiful neck inlays, and a great finish. The Babicz bridge is amazing, and a great upgrade from the bridge Gibson was using on previous models. It's a much better design, and gives great sustain due to it's higher mass. The Grover tuners hold tuning extremely well and have a great feel. As far as sound, it has that classic EB0 sound you expect, but the added bridge pickup helps the sound in not being so muddy. It actually gives it some mid range boost and an overall fuller sound. Couldn't be happier. Super light, comfortable, and sounds amazing. Also the hard shell case is a new design that looks super sharp and fits the bass like a glove.
