Comments about Gibson 2015 Les Paul Standard SR:

So I went to find my Les Paul this year (2015) and started with a 2014 Les Paul Peace guitar. The price was right and I went to try it at a local GC. I plugged it in to a 68 Fender Custom Princeton and it sounded great but the high E string kept coming off the fretboard.....bummer. I asked if it could be addressed (new nut) and they said probably not. The salesman suggested a 2015 Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop he had with the wider neck. I tried it and it sounded better than the Peace guitar to me so I bought it. I fell in love with it immediately but struggled to keep it in tune....total turn off. The G-Force tuning is very convenient....I like to play in double drop D and open E but it just would not stay in tune! Also, I had trouble doing bar chords in the upper frets with the wider neck. When I saw the SR series I went ahead and ordered the Standard in Tobacco Sunburst Candy. I wanted some of the features of the 2015 line and this LP fit the bill. As with the Gold Top, the finish and craftsmanship are exemplary. The traditional neck width is perfect for me. The tonal versatility is off the charts with the coil tapping, phase, and detox switching. I did not know what the detox switching was until I tried it. It's a complete bypass of all of the tone and other controls save for volume. It is just the straight hummbuckers uleashed! You can be coil tapped and phased and just bypass it all with the pull of the bridge tonal knob. One of my favorite tones is the pup switch in the middle position, phase knob engaged (neck tonal knob) running through my VOX Night Train 50 set on the bright channel with the thick switch on, I add a Wampler Clarksdale Delta Overdrive (or a Tube Screamer) and run it through a Vox 2X12 cab. Pure blues heaven! I have read a lot of negative reviews of the changes Gibson has made....I agree with the G-force being sub par. Great concept but in need of serious tweeking to be viable. The zero fret nut is fine on both the Gold Top and SR. I do not understand why folks would not adopt this feature. The ability to adjust the action for slide, other string guages and personal preference on action is a no brainer. Another complaint is the Les Paul 100 sig on the head stock....I would have to agree with this one. I would much rather have the MOP inlay! Bottom line though, I have found the Les Paul of my dreams in the SR I have. It is absolutely perfect for what I was looking for and of all of the guitars I currenly own and have owned including a 1969 Les Paul, this one is quite simply the best! The craftsmanship is excellent, hummbucker pro's are great pup's and the playability is supurb. Be aware though that the stock photos are of a premium quilt Standard LP....not reresentative of the "AA" top you will receive. Also, I did not know what "candy" meant until I receved it....it's like a "metalflake" in the finish....indistinguishable from a distance but amazing up close!

    Pictures can be deceiving

Comments about Gibson 2015 Les Paul Standard SR:

The item I received did not have a beautiful top as shown in the pictures, especially those of the Heritage Cherry or Honeyburst options. My internet order showed up with a disappointingly plain top. If I could easily do it over, I would probably pick the 2016 Standard T, which specifies a AAA top. (I almost did so, but hated to give up the pearl inlays for acrylic.)

    Functionally, it's fabulous.

Comments about Gibson 2015 Les Paul Standard SR:

I wanted a Les Paul standard all my life. I have had it for six months now. Its an amazing guitar, ask , Jimmy Paige, Bonomassa , Warren Haynes. I am considering selling it , or doing a trade. Tuning problems. I had it professionally set up, intonation etc. It has locking tuners, but , I can never seem to get it perfectly in tune. I have heard from several people that this is an ongoing Les Paul problem , due to the design of the headstock , and the way the strings go sideways to the tuners. . Nothing annoys me more than for it to be less than perfect when im playing. Its gorgeous, amazing sound , and plays great, but the tuning , grrrr, drives me crazy. I also have a G and L telecaster. Its actually just as good, sound, playability etc. , and it ALWAYS stays in tune. I would hate to lose my Les Paul . I have a decision to make. I don't have a nice acoustic, so maybe I will trade for a Taylor.

Comments about Gibson 2015 Les Paul Standard SR:

This is a really great guitar. Although it does not come with AAAA top, like the 2016 Gibson Les Paul Standard HP, I am still happy to have gotten this guitar (AA top), but for a much lower price! Well, if you spend USD 1999, you get a Les Paul Standard, if you spend another USD 1150 extra, you will also get a Les Paul Standard. Nevertheless, this Les Paul Standard is really great in terms of the price. It is also a limited edition, which even makes it collectible!

Comments about Gibson 2015 Les Paul Standard SR:

This guitar was set up perfectly for me right out of the case. The online picture do this guitar no justice. The metal flake under the finish looks awesome hence the term perimeter candy. The tonal qualities are pure Gibson. This model does not have the e--tune mounted on the back. yes it has the hologram on the back and the large print signature on the head stock, but i like that and it doesn't bother me at all. The true abalone trapezoid inlays and Gibson logo inlay give this guitar a lot of character. Some have complained about the zero fret nut, but Gibson sent me a brand new titanium one and it wasn't that had to install. This model is numbered to only 41 produced which makes this purchase even sweeter for a Standard. Every pick up knob adjusts (detox switch), so the tones and sounds are limitless. So glad I got got this Guitar and so easy to fret and play. What an awesome deal from the Guitar Center. The quick detachable pick guard is easy to remove and replace. If you still have a change to get one of these you better do it quick. Thanks again for the great deal GC...will definitely be back for more of your service and deals.
