Comments about Gibson 2015 Les Paul Special Double Cut Electric Guitar:

I use it during group lessons and playing with my band. The hum makes the pups unusable. I replaced them immediately with lindy fralin noiseless p90s

    Fantastic Instrument

Comments about Gibson 2015 Les Paul Special Double Cut Electric Guitar:

I have wanted to add a p90 based Gibby to my backline for some time. i have always liked the look of the yellow DC Les Paul special. The 2015 version offers new improvements in a guitar that i have wanted. The new fretboard dimensions and nut are phenomenal (for my playing anyway). The fretboard itself is dark, fast and great to play. The GForce tuning thing is really cool and works perfect. The key is to do one string at a time ? spot on tuning. The new p90s are wicked and if I had any other p90 or mini humbucker guitars, I would replace all pickups with the new Gibson p90s.

    Took a chance...glad I did!

    By Marc

Comments about Gibson 2015 Les Paul Special Double Cut Electric Guitar:

Like most people, I was a bit uncertain about the mandatory changes that Gibson made on their guitars this year. In my opinion, there is no option for old style controls because Gibson knew that most players would opt out of the modifications, and then they would never even be given a chance to get off the ground. With that said, I'm kind of glad they forced the changes...they seemed iffy at first but they are kind of growing on me. So I'll try to address the changes individually below. New neck profile: At first, I didn't like it. It just felt too wide. I have medium sized hands so the extra little reach was a bit of a stretch for me. People with small hands may not be able to utilize the neck as well as they could a thinner neck. With that said, once you adjust to it, it's kind of nice having a bit of extra space. For example, I typically accidentally mute the high "e" string on most guitars with my fretting hand, because of the extra width that isn't a problem anymore. I can see how it would help with string bends as well...however...I always bend my three high strings up (away from the edge) and the three low strings down so I've never had the issue with fretting out. Zero Fret Nut: This was actually a positive for me from the beginning. I love the sound of P90's on slide guitar, so I imagined that being able to raise the nut would be far more convenient for playing slide than having to adjust the truss rod every time I wanted to play slide, and then having to set intonation again and so on...and then change it back for standard playing. Also, I've had other Gibson's that had the infamous "ping" issue on the G string...with the brass nut that never happens. I also like the sound of it over the Graph Tusq or whatever they used to use. G-Force tuner: Most people aren't going to like this part...I think it works GREAT. It was the worst part about the guitar in my opinion and (almost) kept me from buying the guitar...I still prefer the look of the normal tuners, but you can't see it from the front and it works so well. I have a TC Electronic PolyTune 2 and I checked the Gibson G-Force tuning against it and it's bang on every time. It's super fast too, and you can program in custom tunings...very handy...especially since I like to use this particular guitar for slide, which uses a lot of open tunings, so it helps me to switch between tunings quickly and accurately. The G-Force is also great for changing strings...no more string winder...just hold down a button and voila! The tuner will tighten/loosen the string for you in seconds! And the fact that it comes with a rechargeable battery is a huge plus as well. I go weeks between charges and I retune a lot. I run 10 gauge strings (it came with 9's) and so I did have to do the recalibration procedure...but it only took a few minutes and after I was finished BAM it was right back in perfect tune. The ONLY real lookout I can think of is at first the G-Force seems like it won't hold tune...that was very frustrating and I almost took back the guitar because of it...but I figured I'd stick it out since I know new strings need to stretch a bit before they hold tune, so I assumed that was the issue and I was right. After a few hours of playing the tunings were very stable, just as stable as on my LP Traditional with the Gibson Deluxe tuners. So if it seems like it won't hold tune, just give it a bit to break in. Sound: P90's sound GREAT! This guitar was a replacement for an Epiphone Casino (which I loved) but the Casino just kept screaming at me...the negative of a hollow body...the feedback. So I sold it and picked up this one and I was not disappointed. These P90's are super clear and clean when you want it...and sound great dirty if you like that (I do), nice fat over-driven sound. Gibson said they changed these P90's from previous ones to make them sound more "vintage" or something along those lines, and while I don't know about "vintage" they do sound incredible. Much more versatile than the P90's in the Casino. Playability: The PLEK'd neck is a breeze to play on. No dead frets, no buzzing, super low action. Once you adjust to the neck width it plays super smooth and fast.
