First off, this guitar wins my approval. I own the Pacific Blue, and get a lot of compliments on its appearance. The bridge pickup sounds great to me. It has that LP growl that I wanted. The coil tapping works well (with my rig). I play through a Vox AC30 and Egnater Tweaker 15 and it sounds good through both. I am a tele/strat player mostly. I can get an (almost) strat or tele sound by tapping the bridge pickup. It gets even better with the 15dB boost activated. I also like the tone when the selector switch is in the middle. Now for the negatives. I thought the minEtune was cool. It's great for taking to practice when you play in different tunings and have to switch back and forth. However, I do not trust the minEtune in a live setting. It picks up on other sounds and will put you out of tune. It tunes fast when you're tuning at home, but not on stage. It's better to tune it manually in that setting. I am planning on removing the minEtune and installing regular tuners. Also, the P-90H doesn't sound very good to me. It sounds too muddy. It's a little better tapped, but I am considering replacing it with a regular P90. Lastly, I wasn't overly impressed with the craftsmanship. I own a Fender American Deluxe Tele, and it is crafted to a higher standard. Those are my only cons at this time. Overall, I love this guitar.

I bought this used at local shop. It was gold...ALL OVER. Even on back of neck and sides of headstock. Wood was not sealed before they cheaply applied paint on bare wood. Didn't appear to top coat, either. You should never be able to see or feel the grain of the wood through a paint job if done professionally. Gibson has slacked on this due to time constraints, I assume... for the last 10 yrs. The sides of fretboard at 1st fret were visibly not smooth... unacceptably rough. CNC routing grooves were left ON the fretboard and not properly sanded fine enough. ..even on the inlays. Sloppy! I was particularly interested in the maple neck and that's why I really bought the guitar. You can't get good mahogany on a guitar under 2500.00 (or more)..anymore. You may as well go for a more stable and denser wood like maple. In the case of this guitar, ..it's a saving grace. I'm lucking enough to be able to refinish a guitar and that's exactly what I did. Stripped all that nasty gold off and found the most pretty plain maple top underneath. Even the grain on the maple neck was straight grained. :) Amazing. I knew this guitar had potential to be better. I spent this last whole summer spraying it with clear gloss nitro lacquer. I kept it light. I put black shielding paint in cavities, new pots, got rid of over the top, unnecessary electronics and made it more 'retro' .. It's a very different guitar now. Got Tusq XL nut, locking Grovers, orange drop capacitors. Love this guitar....now! It's worth buying if you know how to modify, if you don't, then you might be disappointed by the lack of attention to detail. The paint made it a lb heavier than it is now. Night and day difference. The smaller frets capo very well, btw. It's going to have ONE coil tap push pull and that's it. Found a Jimmy Page wiring diagram online for it. So, bottom line? It's still a good guitar (as is) and has many overboard features. Buy it and mod it!

Comments about Gibson 2014 Les Paul Futura Plain Top Electric Guitar:

I purchased my gold bullion colored Les Paul Futura at the Guitar Center in Peoria, Il. In fact I traded my MIM 60th Deluxe anniversary strat for this guitar with no regrets. My used Futura had the mini-E tuner system removed and deluxe tuners were installed. This is the best and only modification I would recommend for anyone considering a Les Paul Futura. A bit of string buzz, no binding, but the tone and tonal possibilities are incredible. My Les Paul Custom (1998) could not recreate the tone of the Futura. In fact it is only a matter of time until I purchase another. Just play on if you can...it sells itself. Rock on!

Comments about Gibson 2014 Les Paul Futura Plain Top Electric Guitar:

let start off with this ax. I opened the box & there it was "foam green" (it looks more teal to me but..)I got this cuz I have several custom guitars that I just don't wanna take out anymore cuz of there age, but back to the to this one, I took it out of the box, which was packed very well, looked it over no dink. pick it up noticed that the neck/frets was ruff so fret job, but my biggest trouble with this guitar is it about 1/8" fatter than a Gibson Les Paul. I didn't find it @ first it took about 2 hours of playing it and changing the strings but something was not feeling right and I was going back and forth... but that is what it was... it's fatter
so for that I don't know if I would RECOMMEND TO MY FRIEND ... AND GIBSON WHERE IS YOUR HIGH STANDARDS THAT YOU HAVE BEEN KNOW FOR???
Some people talk about weight, but it is what it is, I've found a wider strap does just fine.

Comments about Gibson 2014 Les Paul Futura Plain Top Electric Guitar:

This guitar has been wronlgy judged. To start, the factory finish on it is produced so that the guitar start lossing color, which I love. Why? Becasue the guitar has my playing marks, let's say it customises to the way I play, and the color change/loss looks awesome and feels like it is only MY GUITAR as those are my marks!! (Don't call Gibson if the color starts to change, this is what you bought).

The pickups are amazing, the new PH-90 HB has an amazing sound, and the split coil change works like a charm (no battery needed for it, only for the 15db boost), is pretty much like having two different guitars on one.

The -15db boost is also an amazing feature, giving you power for solos or if you are a Heavy Metal player you may like it fot the whole song.

Finally, the Min E-tune works like a charm. My guitar came in tune on all strings. I change the strings right away for a heavier martin strings and I had to customise the Tunning so that the pre-set tunes would fit the guitar. So if your guitar comes with a wrong tune don't worry you can change it, just google for the complete min E tune guide.

I am loving this affordable Gibson guitar, if you know what you are getting you will probably love it as well.

Comments about Gibson 2014 Les Paul Futura Plain Top Electric Guitar:

I have 2 other LPs and play frequently. I wanted to try this guitar to check out the auto tuner function and to see if I liked the stock P-90. I was surprised how heavy it was compared to my other LPs and really surprised how dead the tone was. I tried hard to like this guitar and I never got around to testing the robotic tuners. I also found the P-90 to be surprisingly weak and lacking good tone, while the coil tapping didn't have the same effect as it does on my other guitars with Seymour Duncans.
I don't know if it's the maple neck, but there's something wrong with this guitar. Anyway, thanks to MF and their return policy, I was able to get a full refund.

          Excellence All The Way

          By Anton Schmidtner

          from NJ

Comments about Gibson 2014 Les Paul Futura Plain Top Electric Guitar:

Just purchased my 2014 LP Futura last week. I did a lot of research and playing before I finally narrowed down my search to this and a couple other LP models. Ultimately I picked the Futura for its feel, tone, pickups, and quality of craftsmanship. I have played a huge assortment of brands / models. Gibson has delivered an instrument that just feels and sounds like it will remain in my possession for many many years to come. The sounds are versatile as you have so many pickup / switch options, and this guitar just has an incredible warmth about it. The amount of sustain you can hear when you just pluck a string without it even plugged in is awesome. I play hard rock and classic rock primarily so this guitar seems to be built for these areas. The bullion gold finish is flawless (and as a car guy & single handicap golfer, I look for precision). The e-tune does what it should, although I was not actively looking for this feature. As far as the rest, the weight is good - the neck feels great - the switches and knobs are solid - the headstock doesn't feel any heavier with the e-tune - and everything else feels that it is of very high quality. I would qualify the 2014 Gibson Futura LP has an excellent value and the type of guitar that you can hang on to forever (and pass down to your lil rockers).

          Great playing guitar but

          By Ryan Powell

          from West Middlesex, PA

Comments about Gibson 2014 Les Paul Futura Plain Top Electric Guitar:

I like the sidewinder p90 pickup configuration in the neck, color (Red), and min etune feature. I would like to rate this guitar higher, but the paint is already chipping, and I've already had to contact Gibson for a replacement min etune machine head on the high e string. Support was quick to act, but I find these build issues within the first month to be quite disappointing for the amount of money paid for the guitar. I expected a lot more for the money.

          Great playing guitar but

          By Ryan Powell

          from Pa

Comments about Gibson 2014 Les Paul Futura Plain Top Electric Guitar:

This guitar plays great, pickup selection is great, and the min etune is also a nice feature. I had previously owned a custom silverburst lp in the past, and this thing blows that guitar out of the water in versatility. I gave this guitar 3 stars because the non coated paint appears to chip away easily and I had to replace a tuning motor on the high e string after the first string change. Gibson is sending me a replacement motor, but I found this to be unacceptable only after a month of use. I would like to rate this guitar higher, but I can't because of those issues, which really detract from the value for such a mid range priced premium guitar. The paint is very nice, but who knows how long it will have paint. Slightly disappointed...
