The 2013 Les Paul Studio blends timeless tonewoods and components with improved comfort, powerful humbucking pickups with built-in coil-splitting switching for the added versatility of single-coil tones, and the classic looks that define it as a genuine Gibson Les Paul. To ram it all full speed into the 21st century, this 2013 Les Paul Studio comes with the optional Min-ETune automated œrobot tuning.
The 2013 Les Paul Studio is tone-assured right from the start, thanks to a foundation of the traditional tonewoods that helped to make the Les Paul Standard legendary when it first arrived six decades ago. A carved solid maple top lends bite and articulation to the sound, while a select mahogany back”treated with Gibson' new modern weight relief pattern to increase playing comfort and enhance resonance”contributes superb warmth and depth.
A solid, quarter-sawn mahogany neck is glued in and carved in the fast 60s SlimTaper profile, and topped with a rich brown Granadillo fingerboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets and traditional trapezoid inlays. In keeping with the stripped-down Studio ethos, the body and fingerboard are left unbound, but the 2013 retains elegant touches in its pickguard, hot-stamped truss-rod cover, and black or gold speed knobs, depending on finish. Classic Gibson construction ensures optimum playability, too, along with traditional specs like a 24 ¾ scale length, a 1 11/16 width across the PLEK-cut Corian nut, and a 12-inch fingerboard radius for smooth, easy bending.
A pair of Gibson USA' Modern Classics humbucking pickups prime the 2013 Les Paul Studio for unparalleled tonal versatility. Both are made in the image of the legendary PAF humbucker, with Alnico magnets and 42-AWG wire, but adapted for the demands of contemporary players. A 490R in the neck position offers vintage warmth and throaty blues tones, while a hotter 498T in the bridge belts out all the scorch, sizzle and sustain you require. Furthermore, both are wired for coil splitting, with individual push-pull tone-control switching to tap authentic single-coil tones, which are even wired for hum cancelling in the middle position.
The innovative pairing of a Tune-o-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece ensure solid sustain and precise intonation, while the automated Min-ETune System ensures smooth, accurate tuning.

I have several Les Pauls and they are some of my most favorite guitars. My recent addition of the Les Paul Min-E-Tune was much anticipated, since it had both the automatic tuner and coil splitting. While the guitar in itself is as expected, and beautifully executed and set up (I just changed the strings and lowered the bridge a little, but everything else was great from the factory, including intonation), both the coil splitting and the tuner were underwhelming. I took it to GuitarCenter to have it checked out because neither seemed to work correctly. Turns out neither does, since the tech agreed with me: First of all, the coil split is NOT a coil split: the description says "both are wired for coil splitting, with individual push-pull tone-control switching to tap authentic single-coil tones, which are even wired for hum cancelling in the middle position". However, pulling the volume knobs simply makes the tony mushy and woolly - basically, I will never use it. When the tech at GuitarCenter put an Ohm meter on the output, it did not change at all regardless of whether the knob was pulled or not - upon calling his factory rep, he confirmed that the knobs are just wired to the tone circuit - so the guitar does not switch from humbucker to single coil - is just mushes up the tone into something that is not even remotely like a single coil sound. Very disappointing. And basically fraudulent marketing. Shame on you Gibson! Secondly, the min-E-tune automatic tuner ends up tuning my low E sharp. This also was confirmed by the tech. There is apparently some way to fiddle around with the tuner, which I will now have to do, to set some kind of bias so it actually tunes the strings correctly - however, that should have been done at the factory! Now I have to spend hours becoming a specialist in setting up the tuning system. The tech did not know how to do this. So, two pretty big strikes there as far as I'm concerned. The rest of the guitar is great, which is why it's still 3 stars, but with all the advertising for these features, Gibson failed to deliver as promised in my book.
Platinum is the least you could say about les Paul's, these are the future of guitars and the milestones that Gibson sets. Joe B.
saves time and a beautiful sound
