All the sumptuous ingredients that makes the Les Paul name great are in the Gibson 2013 Les Paul Standard Premium Plus Electric Guitar in spades: a skillfully carved AAA maple top on a mahogany back perfectly joined to a mahogany neck, Burstbucker Pro pickups each fitted with coil-split capability, locking tuning machines, and neck and body binding, this is truly a full-featured, loaded Les Paul and now features a katalox fretboard. Katalox is a dense and hard Central American hardwood that has a great richness and depth with strong presence.
Burstbucker Pro Humbuckers
Gibson’s drive to recapture the magic of the original “Patent Applied For” humbucker pickups of the 1950s culminated with the introduction of the Burstbucker line in the early 1990s. In 2002, Gibson followed up this innovative accomplishment with yet another breakthrough in pickup design—the Burstbucker Pro, designed specifically for Les Paul Standards. The Burstbucker Pro features an Alnico V magnet (instead of the Alnico II), which offers slightly higher output and allows preamps to be driven a little harder to achieve a more natural break-up. Like all Burstbuckers, the Burstbucker Pro has asymmetrical coils—true to the original PAFs—which supply a more open sound. The Burstbucker Pro Neck is wound slightly less than the original PAFs, while the Burstbucker Pro Bridge is slightly overwound for increased output. The Burstbucker Pro pickups are also wax potted to allow loud volume pressures with minimal feedback.
The bridge and neck pickups can each be split via their own push/pull switch on the volume knob to achieve a single-coil tone. This coil-tapping function allows you to instantly achieve brighter, snappier tones from this humbucker-loaded guitar, to replicate the sounds of other classic guitars equipped with single-coil pickups, and to return to the Les Paul Standard Premium Plus's thick, warm, powerful, full-humbucking tone at the push of a knob.
This Les Paul Standard Premium Plus is fitted with Gibson’s classic ’60s slim-taper neck profile, which is the more modern, slim-tapered neck most commonly associated with the Les Paul and SG models of the early 1960s.
Locking Grover Tuners
The Les Paul Standard Premium Plus is outfitted with locking tuners from Grover, which deliver ease of use through a standard tuner and positive locking mechanism that securely locks each string in place. Simply insert each string through the string hole, turn the dial on the bottom of the tuner to lock the string, and begin tuning. Each string can be tuned to pitch in less than one complete revolution of the post. These Grover machine heads feature completely sealed components with an improved 18:1 tuning ratio.
Gibson Hardshell case included.

I have owned several Gibson guitars over the past forty years, from Customs to Studios. Many had tuning problems, a famous Gibson characteristic, but all were well-built, and with adjustments, usually to the nuts, were very musical and useful instruments. My newest Les Paul, a 2012 Standard Premium Plus lefty, with the Katalox fretboard, is the best right-out-of-the-case Gibson guitar I have owned. Mechanically, the guitar is perfect; all components work as advertised, no problems with tuning (it's a rock-in tune), the finish is wonderful, and has no major flaws of workmanship. Playability is first class, with the best neck I've ever had on a Gibson guitar. It does everything it's designed to do. Good acoustic ring, fine sustain, great lows and mids, and the coil-tapping and switching scheme is very useful and well-thought-out. The fret board feels like Ebony, but sounds a bit milder, in keeping with the rounded sound of a standard. It is very comfortable; I don't know if Gibson will keep using this material, but it feels good to me.
I got my Gibson Les Paul standard premium plus trans amber. 6/29/2012. It is by far the best guitar I have ever played in my life.. Did not have to take it to BOOMERS GUITAR SHOP LIKE EVER OTHER GUITAR I HAVE EVER BOUGHT, NEW OR USED..Let me say the good people at Gibson USA, Hit it out the park if you ask me. The other guitar player in my band has a gibson studio, and it nice, but nothing like this light weight tone monster.. It's a PERFECT 10 IN LOOKS, FIT, AND FINISH, and it plays like butter.. I have been playing guitar for a very long time now in a heavy metal band and also a classic rock band as well.. The burstbuckers do it all, drop D,C,B, And in standard 4/40 E It shows off its coil tapping hard rock tone, sustain for days. You can bend the strings right off the fret board.. This guitar in the right hands can give you the bell tone of a USA strat. Bite of EMGS, and smooth jazz feel as well.. I cant say enough about this guitar. Do yourself a favor and save your money up and get WHAT THIS GUITAR PLAYER FEELS IS THE BEST GUITAR EVER!!!! THIS GUITAR RIGHT HERE IS GUARANTEED TO BLOW THE BALLS OFF A CHARGING RHINO AT 50 PACES...
