Dress up your old Gibson.

These Gold Machine Heads from Gibson are made to the same quality standards as the originals, right down to their pearloid buttons. These are the kind of tuning machines that will spiff up an older guitar and make tuning a pleasure.

  • Gibson Machine Heads

As reviewed by Zane Potter on 12/9/2008

I got the Gibson vintage gold machine heads to replace the old ones on my 93? Gibson Custom Shop SG, after so long the old one?s where just not as responsive as they used to or should be especially on the G-string. The new ones went on fine look good and have had no problems with them, Gibson?s should have these machine heads the just look better and they add a bit of class to the guitar. The old machine heads I was having problems with I took apart and it was kind of a disappointing quick fix and I did not need to get the new ones but I am happy I did because now I have the old one?s on my Epiphone SG. I recommend you to get these?s heads there vary nice.

  • Crap - Replaced them twice

As reviewed by Matt on 10/18/2010

I have a 1990 J-200. I replaced these in 1992 with another set of Gibson tuners. (In order to keep the guitar "all original.")I replaced them again with another, better brand in 1998 and have had no problems since. The originals look beautiful on the guitar. I had exactly the same problem with both sets, just on different strings. If you look at how the housing for the gears is attached to the plate that screws to the guitar, you can see that it becomes loose (and thus the internal parts of the gear as well) very easily. It is a beautiful guitar and I challenge anyone to find a better sounding, fuller, louder acoustic. everything else on this guitar is like a dream. I have gone in an out of electrics over the years. I would never dream of parting with this guitar until I give it to my son in my will. I love it and it has been a big part of my life for 20 years. But the tuners are crap. Please note that I replaced the last set in 1998. Gibson may have upgraded their machining since then. I hope so. But just be careful of what you get and inspect how the housing attaches to the plate to see if it is sturdy. Maybe it is. But it looks the same.
