The small, fast bass.

The Gibson SG Reissue Bass brings back Gibson's classic dual-pickup SG bass from the '70s! The reissue bass has the 30-1/2" short scale of the original, as well as its slim, fast neck. Mahogany body and neck. The Gibson SG Reissue Bass features a vintage-style TB neck humbucker pickup and a mini-humbucker at the bridge for wide tonal range. Gibson includes a hardshell case with the reissue SG Standard Bass.3-Way Adjustable BridgeGibson's innovative 3-way adjustable bridge is the standard for simplicity and functionality. It provides you with the ability to adjust and fine-tune the height of the SG Standard Bass' strings in all directions—front, back, and side-to-side. This gives the bridge a floating feature, thus allowing the bass to be equipped with a variety of string gauges and multiple set-up options. The SG Reissue bass's legendary resonance, tone, and sustain is the result of anchoring the bridge directly into the body at its 3 adjustable points, providing a firm seating for the strings and yielding a strong union between the strings and the body. Readily accessible screws make setting the intonation simple. To this day, Gibson's 3-way adjustable bridge remains an industry standard. It is the epitome of form and function in bass guitar bridge design.Set-Neck ConstructionLike all classic Gibson guitars, the necks on the SG Standard Basses are distinguished by one of the more traditional features that have always set them apart—a glued neck joint. Gluing the neck to the body of the guitar insures a "wood-to-wood" contact, no air space in the neck cavity, and maximum contact between the neck and body, allowing the neck and body to function as a single unit. The result? Better tone, better sustain, and no loose or misaligned necks.Vintage-Style TB and TB Mini HumbuckersThe pickups on the early Gibson basses of the 1960s remained unchanged for many years, undergoing only minor cosmetic modifications from time to time, but staying true to the originals' sonic characteristics. The pickups in today's SG Standard Bass—the vintage-style TB Plus humbucker and TB mini humbucker—are wax-potted and capture and recreate the classic attributes of those early Gibson basses. The TB plus humbucker in the neck is a traditional hum-cancelling bass pickup with a full frequency, heavy-bottom sound, similar to pickups with a passive EQ. The EB mini humbucker in the bridge is traditionally smaller but packs a sweet punch with exceptional mid-range presence. This combination makes the SG Standard Bass a versatile instrument with a wide range of tonal possibilities.20-Fret Rosewood FingerboardRosewood has always graced the fingerboards of the world's finest stringed instruments, including many of today's Gibson guitars and basses. The fingerboard on the Gibson SG Standard Bass is constructed from the highest grade rosewood on the planet. The rosewood is personally inspected and qualified by Gibson's team of skilled wood experts before it enters the factories to be fitted onto the neck of the SG Standard Bass. The resilience of this dense and durable wood makes the fingerboards extremely balanced and stable, and gives each note unparalleled clarity and bite.

  • White Hot SG Reissue

As reviewed by Ken Woodward on 11/1/2006

I have to say I'm extremely impressed. I lost my old EBO when I went to Viet Nam. This is that bass times five. The Brige Pickup gives this little baby clarity, and can almost creep up to a single coil sound. Jack Bruce tunes are a blast to play.Gibson Folks should be proud. The white lined case for this White beauty is as nice as the bass. Kudo's to Gibson.

  • Very Impressive!

As reviewed by Bill (The Blues Bass Boy) on 10/7/2009

I have a pretty full arsenal of high quality USA made bass guitars, Fender Jazz, Precision, Musicman Stingray, Rickenbaker, Kramer and some Carvins. This bass is the perfect addition. I play blues and classic rock and this bass has THE tone, Especially when played through a vintage amp (Bassman or Ampeg Portaflex) Although it sounds great through modern solid state amps as well. It thumps! This is my first short scale bass and it plays FAST! (make sure the windows in your house are tight and the pictures are hung securly, this bass moces some air!) The stock round wound strings do Not do this bass justice, I put on a set of Rotosound 77's (flatwound) and it's perfect. I usually take my Musicman for band practice but at this last session it just sat there, this bass is that good. The price, Yes a little steep, but no more expensive than an American Fender or a Music Man. I am very happy with my purchase (Thanks GC, San Marcos!) Worth every penny! To Sum it up, If you play Blues, Classic Rock, Soul or R&B, Buy it, you will be a happy camper. This is NOT a slapper or a good choice for more modern rock or progressive (that's what the other basses are for)

  • WOW

As reviewed by Don Key on 1/7/2009

This bass is phenomenal. I could write about this bass for hours on end. The first thing that really blew me away about this bass is the weight and size. It is extremely light and small. It enables me to run around stage and have a great time while still playing my best. Another great feature about this bass is the versatility. The tones it can get are amazing. I play through a Crate solid-state amp. I am able to get Rickanbaker highs and smooth creamy lows. Needless to say this is a beautiful bass. This picture doesn't do it justice. When freshly polished it looks so gorgeous it makes me heart stop for a second. Lastly, in the grand scheme of things, this bass is not that expensive for what it is. This bass blows similarly priced Fenders out of the park, and is better that most Music Man. I recommend this bass for everyone who plays live a lot and is looking in this price-range.
