NEW REVIEW - amazing!!!
I just bought this guitar from my friends dad and it is one of the nicest guitars I've ever played. the only problem is the tuning. I have problems mainly on the b and g strings. Overall, its an amazing guitar. I've played some nice guitars, but this is one of my favorites. It has great action and I can shred better on it than any guitar I've played. its sounds good clean. that is a big thing i look at guitars for. It sounds great with every effect I've put with it, but just straight into the amp it sounds good. Very nice guitar. Way ahead of its time.

A Gibson Masterpiece
I played this guitar at a local store last week, and after the first 10 seconds I was awestuck.
At the moment I own a Fender Stratocaster, Gibson Les Paul, and a Gibson es 345 and this one blows them all away. The '61 Reissue is the ultimate instrument as far as tone, weight, shape, and playabillity. It has the fastest and most comfortable neck I've ever played, and this guitar is durable. The tone is amazing and with the four nobs you create allmost any sound with them you would like. Don't settle for a Standard, Special, or Les Paul if you want a guitar that will last and that you can take on the road.

OMG God dropped his guitar to Earth
I usually don't give a 5.0 best on the overall of a review of an instrument. But if I gave anything lower for this instrument, I would be lying. This thing is God's personal guitar. He dropped it down from heaven. But seriously, I've went many times to my local guitar center and have seen and played this guitar. Each time I play it, I get awestrucked. The store had a SG custom, but this thing beat it with a hard punch. At first I was thinking that probably the Les Paul Studio was a bit better, but today I finally compared the 2 side by side, and the SG reissue blew the Les Paul away. And it's also a very light guitar, great for long gigs, etc. I have played various Gibsons, but this one beats it all. Maybe not a Les Paul custom, but who has the money for that? Whoever out there who are serious guitarists, stop wasting your money on Fenders, or other guitars, and start saving up for this baby. It won't do you no wrong. Except, the only thing I wish it had was a tremolo system, like that SG/Les Paul model that was discontinued a few years ago. Oh well, you can't have everything. GET THIS.

The best SG there is
I love SG's. I love the way they look, the way they feel, and they way they play. Sometimes, I am let down in the sound department, though. Not with this one. This is hands down, the best Sg I have ever played, if not the best Guitar. It sounds great clean, no effects, no distortion or anything, and thats great, cuase sgs usually need something, cause their clean tone is not that great, but this one has unbelieveable tone, and the sustain is amazing. The neck by itself could sell this thing. I normally have to strain my hand to reach the 18+ ftrets, but they were so easy to get to, it felt completely easy to play liks on the 20th and 22dn frets I gave it a 4 for value, cause it's gonna take me a year to afford it.

Very Good
I recently have owned a mexican fender strat and all I can say is this beats it in every single aspect. When I went to go buy a new guitar I kept coming back to this one. The feel is vre good its lightweigth and commfortable. The quality of this thing is unspoked for. The build is jsut so nice I feel like I could throw it off the the sears tower and then just pick it up and it would still work. Also the red one looks very hot a nice change from all the les pauls. Now the pickups on these things rock to no matter what you play it sounds good on this. This is good in rythm and lead but personally I think it's the best lead guitar there is les pauls are just to heavy. so If you want a good reliable giotar that will last you forever then pick this baby up the price is worth it.

Another great Gibson
The guitarist from System of a Down uses this guitar, and it sounds amazing. I'm thinking about putting the same pickups that this guitar has ('57 Classic humbuckers) into my Gibson SG Special just to get that great metal sound.

It remains unique
After all these years, this is one guitar that still stands out from the crowd, both in design and tone.
It literally begs to be matched to a Marshall amp. I know, because my 2001 version doesn't sound the same through anything else. It's a marriage made in Heaven. One thing that I've noticed about SG owners is that they never tire of just staring at the guitar standing or hanging in a corner. It's a timeless design, and with these particular pickups, a timeless tone also. Although I've a few other decent guitars to choose from, this is my personal favorite, and it's almost impossible to put it down. Surprisingly, it has a superb clean tone as well, and at least one famous jazz guitarist that I know of uses this particular model only. Personally, all I want to do is jump into a pair of short pants, stick on a tie, and "Hells Bells", that says it all!
Angus may have turned the SG into an icon, but it's a fantastic instrument in its own right.
One word of warning, however. Quality control seems a bit dodgy at the moment, and I've noticed a few new ones over here in Japan that have poorly fitted bridges which do not look quite the same as my 7 year-old model! Imported parts I wonder?
Anyway, find yourself a good one and you won't be sorry. All you need then is the Marshall! The P-90 version is great, but this is better. A true gem.

Tuning
Love this guitar. Would have purchased a more contemporary issue versus the '61 only because the vintage tuners s@#k big time, which I did not know at the time of purchase. They feel like a 6-1 ratio. The tuner design was upgraded over time for a reason. However, the 60 neck flies. Need to be careful of adding pressure to the neck while playing. Tends to sharpen or flatted notes. Still love the thin neck though. Finally, changed the tuners to Grover 21-1 ratio ($45.00) and locked this baby down. Pickups and overall sound is superb.
