The beautiful Midtown Custom is ideal for the guitarist on a budget who longs to own a quality semi-hollowbody guitar. The chambered mahogany body plays host to a flat maple top with f-holes and multi-ply binding. The set mahogany neck has a Slim Taper '60s neck and a black Richlite fingerboard. Gibson BurstBuster are specially constructed and voiced to churn out that legendary "Patent Applied For" humbucker tone.

  • Versatile, comfortable and sweet tone.

    This guitar nails it all. It can do classic rock and all of that stuff and excels in blues and jazz. '57 burstbuckers sound amazing, neck very smooth and in general very comfortable to play. In comparison to the es-339, I would say this is better, and it's $500 less. I say this because the es-339's have smaller bodies and thicker necks making them uncomfortable to play, and the rosewood fretboards weren't as smooth as those of say, an SG standard. As far as tone goes, they are very similar if not exactly the same, so this is the obvious choice.

  • Gorgeous sound and appearance

    I was expecting my new natural finish Midtown Custom to be gorgeous, but I was also expecting to be able to easily see the join lines on the three-piece maple top. As I sit here looking at it in bright light I can't even convince myself that it is a three-piece top at all. The grain pattern suggests a two-piece book matched maple top and it is drop-dead gorgeous. Seriously, I can't even detect a join-line on this top at all and the grain is beautiful. The mahogany body has an excellent grain pattern as well. From looks alone this guitar holds itself right up there with my finest customs, including my custom LP. The sound is everything the other reviewers have said. I will add my own emphasis to its SWEET quality. The setup is fine, but I'll be lowering the action a little as several other reviewers have done. This is an outstanding deal on a Gibson Semi-hollow body. The cosmetic tradeoffs I had thought I was making turned out not to be tradeoffs at all. (mainly the three-piece top) The neck is fast and the fingerboard looks just like a high quality ebony that will last several lifetimes. Gibson really knocked it out of the ball park this time. Wow what a great guitar!

  • Sweet tone.

    Very versatile instrument, the burstbuckers will get you great classic rock tone and SWEET blues. many compare this to the es-339 - this is better. the neck & body of the 339 are unproportional, and the rosewood necks werent smooth. I play an SG also, and theyre similar but this is more versatile and better PU's, sounds great for blues, and everything for that matter. also love my SG. very comfortable to play. great buy
