American-made quality at an entry-level price.

Resurrecting one of the most popular electric guitars in Gibson's history, the Melody Maker is an accurate, affordable re-creation of the original Melody Makers of the late 1950s.

Originally introduced as a student model, much like the Les Paul Junior, the Melody Maker became a player's favorite for its light weight, comfortable neck, and great tone.

Today's Melody Maker Les Paul guitar is no exception. With a slim, light, mahogany body and set mahogany neck; period-correct pickguard housing a special design single-coil pickup; vintage-style wraparound tailpiece; rounded neck profile, and rosewood (or baked maple, depending on stock on hand) fingerboard; the Melody Maker is an unbelievable value for players of all ages, styles, and skill levels.

  • Simple and Elegant

As reviewed by Daveh003 on 7/27/2009

I recently bought the white MM for my son. Between the two of us, we have several Gibsons, but he wanted an LP Jr. because he was looking for that punchy, single-coil "punk" sound that it has come to be known for. This MM had an almost identical body and was priced significantly better. In fact, for an American made Gibson, the price is incredible. I put it in his hands, and within minutes of playing it he forgot all about the LP Jr. As soon as we got home, I pulled the pickguard off and found the wiring to be just as good as my other Gibson's. The finish is a thin satin nitro, which is perfect for long term use (and cool road-wear), and the single coil pickup they put in it sounds fantastic. It's not a P-90, but it has amazing clarity and unique tone. It sounds bluesy when clean, and punchy when overdriven. Just what my son was looking for. Do not expect this guitar to be an LP, Explorer, V, or any other Gibson with the typical humbucker tonal range. This is a stripped back, simple and elegant axe. My son loves it, and I have to admit that I have been putting down my favorite LP to sneak in a little time with it too. Make no mistake - this guitar is pure Gibson. Best part of it is that it's not priced like one.

  • Go Gibson or Go home

As reviewed by Patrick on 11/15/2010

I got this guitar when I was in 6th grade and I am now a freshman in high school. The guitar it's self is excellent, the tone is priceless and it's very light and is easy to play and if your looking for a great guitar to buy at a amazing price this is the way to go. The only problem I am having with is is keeping it in tune. I your going to buy this guitar you might want to invest in some tuning pegs for it because I personally don't care for the gibson deluxe tuning pegs it come with. also the wood is very fragile, in other words it wares down easily i have spots on my melody maker that are worn down but I think it looks bad ass haha but thats just me. All in all this guitar is amazing for the price it's at.

this guitar is so simple and yet its great i guess its true when you see the gibson name its great. the guitar looks plain but it really just does the job and works amazingly, it doesnt look half as good as it really is theres just something special about it. all i can say is if you see one do yourself a favor and take it off the wall youll be amazed.
